I remeber seeing them on the talent TV Show The Loxene Golden Disc Awards. Essential viewing at the time. These guys, Space Waltz and HogsnortRupert were my most vivid memories.
This video and song completely mortified my parents when it originally played on TV in 1971-71. I thought it was fantastic, but a little scary. 'Satanic hippies' were just a little too 'Manson' for comfort back then...
Great to see this clip on the site - note the title should be "Come to the Sabbat". Timberjack are a New Zealand band and the song was originally recorded by the English band Black Widow in 1970.
yes i have only just found out about this video its great to see i remember our manager gave me to record of Timberjack doing the cover but it was 30 years before i found out it had made the N/Z top 10
the video reminds me of the Teddy bears picnic (lol)

Holy shit this is a brilliant song. Anyone know where I could find a copy or a download?

I saw some of this on Eating Media Lunch and I thought it was a spoof but now that I've heard the original and Timberjack's version I love it.
Can't believe it was controversial back in '71 though because it's just a song and nothing more.

This is one of the most classic thing I have ever seen! And it must also been one of the earliest music videos!

Timberjack Donohue or John Donoghue was out front. Yes? Although Steve McDonald was involved. Basically the Dizzy Limits.

So this Timberjack version is the cover correct?
toecutterr6 3 years ago
Yes "Black Widow" did the original i know because i wrote it (lol)
Timberjack got to no7 in the NZ charts but in my opinion its a poor version the words are wrong and the playing is poor
The strange thing is the b/side is based round "sabbat" although they clain to of written it

if this mediocre version made the top 10, imagine what the original could've done if it hadn't been banned everywhere

Yes we never knew anything about it till 30 years later (lol)
