Any military strategist would tell you that you don't dogmatically hold to a strategy if the enemy does something unexpected or the enemy discovers your strategy. If a product doesn't go over well with the public, the R&D people have more meetings and modify their strategy to accommodate the shift in demographics and popular trends.  I'm sure if you studied economics at all you would know that.
