I really think that Charlie Manson has won, after all. He always wanted to control by fear and hate, and he has done it. Even from his prison cell, he has a degree of control of some dark corner of our psyche where we nurture our deepest dread. Doris Tate and her husband were delightful and kind people. They opened their lovely Palos Verdes home to strangers in the victims' group who were really hurting. There were some people there with terrible stories, and I felt for them, but I could not stand the anger and hate they were hanging on to. I've seen this same hate on other internet lists and people stoking the embers of hate, instead of promoting healing.
By coincidence, I got to meet Doris Tate and her husband, many years ago. They were hosting meetings of "Parents of Murdered Children", one of the first "victims" groups. I think that was the beginning of the "victim's rights" movement and this only helped to initiate our decline into the aforementioned "police / prison state". It happens that our own daughter had died in a motor vehicle accident, and there were no groups for this, so this was offered to me, a grieving mother.
Jay and Sharon's tragic death, to this day make me so sad to see, because this represents a time when California really began to lose it's innocence and started the downward slide into the police state which it now has become. Sharon and Jay represent to me a time when I was young, when the California lifestyle was so free and open. You had to be there to understand.
Most young people today cannot understand what it was. I feel badly for them that they cannot have what we took for granted.
Somewhere else in the USA, the legendary Woodstock music festival was the recent news, and across the sea in Asia, the Vietnam was was in full swing. It was a crazy time. But, it was a young and innocent time for so many people, then. On this day, I think the innocence died.
This is one of those moments in life, where you remember exactly what you were doing and where you were, when you heard the news. I was on an "underground" train in London, actually on the outskirts of the city, above ground, on a sunny day, traveling with a friend. I had bought a paper and started to read about this horrible murder, back home in California.
Such a beautiful tribute to Jay and Sharon. Two beautiful; gentle souls. My heart aches at what they had to endure. I'm sure that Jay wished he had married her when she wanted but I guess he figured they had plenty of time for it in the future. He didn't count on Roman coming along and I don't think he was all that crazy about him, he just knew that he had to put up with him in order to be around Sharon.

No there is no evidence that the baby was Jay's but with the social circles Roman and Sharon were in there would always be speculation, as to Roman and his affairs if you would like to call them 'affairs' just sexual conquers! there were plenty before and after marriage all the books 'Repulsion', Roman's auto bio, Greg Kings book and other Roman bio's all back this up from friends who all knew the couple. Jay wasn't without his girlfriends in that time either.
Still a real possibility - I know the times were different though, chatting in a 'friends' bedroom while her husband was thousands of miles away, She was very pregnant though at the time. The conclusion to this was that he was 'hanging around' just in case things did go wrong between Roman and Sharon and had been in their socila group ever since they split up in 66'

Sharon & Jay never stopped loving each other. Sharon told me her baby was Jay's. Roman was never faithful to Sharon & he verbally threw that in her face often. She planned to divorce him as soon as her baby was born. She said she could prove the baby belonged to Jay. Jay had said he was going to stay with her until the baby was born whether Roman was there or not. Jay died defending Sharon and his child. If they had to die, I am glad that they were together. Now they will be together forever.

all in all...just a horrible last 5 - 30 minutes of life for these people ... the book "Sharon Tate and the Manson Murders" goes into detail about the murders - and I had trouble sleeping after reading it. That "SHIT" Watson even commented on how beautiful Sharon looked - but he still decided to butcher her - she was "almost" spared as they "huddled" for a while before killing her. I don't think any of us can judge here. If you were in a situation where three people were armed with a gun and knives, your first instinct would be to get out of there. There's a reason Charles Watson had the gun, they were there to make it look "witchy", not simply shoot people, had Sebring or Frykowski laid down and been passive, Watson would have saved the bullets. The gun was for control and a back up plan, it's possible Abigail Folger had already had the eye to lip gash carved into her face before running. Abigail Folger was no coward, her and WF have ignorant assumptions placed on their character that they don't deserve.

Sorry, but from all accounts it appears that Woijech had been shot and stabbed before "fleeing", he fought with Susan Atkins as she repeatedly stabbed him in the legs. He was also on day 9 or 10 of a planned 13 day MDMA trip, he was severely intoxicated and had been woken up by those demons. Abigail had already been severely wounded. Both men were shot BECAUSE of their attempts to save the women, Sebring was shot while protesting for Sharon's life. Get your facts a bit more s

omg, Upright...you said it. I keep watching this and I cry--Jay loved her soooh much and even if that baby wasn't his, he still would have loved it. All I can picture is Jay and Sharon each holding a hand of her little boy as they walked into heaven. He would have waited 4ever just like you said. Their death was the cruelest kind, but Jay would have wanted to die with Sharon--so great was his love for her, he would not have wanted to live without her.

all in all...just a horrible last 5 - 30 minutes of life for these people ... the book "Sharon Tate and the Manson Murders" goes into detail about the murders - and I had trouble sleeping after reading it. That "SHIT" Watson even commented on how beautiful Sharon looked - but he still decided to butcher her - she was "almost" spared as they "huddled" for a while before killing her. I am glad these "pieces of SHIT" are rotting in jail ... and farewell Susan ... you CREEP!

I don't think any of us can judge here. If you were in a situation where three people were armed with a gun and knives, your first instinct would be to get out of there. Don't put the blame on Voytek; Abigail fled as well. Neither of them meant to leave poor Sharon alone... I agree with BeatleJaynumber9 though... Jay would NOT have left Sharons side. If he was going to leave that house, Sharon would have been by his side.

He gave his life for her on the night of the murders. That is true love. Votek was a coward and ran out of the house first. He left he own girlfriend to be killed (Folger) and his best friend's wife (Sharon). If you are going to die, die fighting and protecting your friends. He treated Sharon awful during her last 2 weeks.

A very appropriate song regarding Jay's love for Sharon. He died trying to protect and save her. He was the only hero who did so 40 years ago tonight. If she would have stayed with Jay she could have spared herself Roman's countless infidelities. Roman, married the most beautiful woman in the world, cheated on her, breaking her heart everytime. Michelle Phillip's (Sharon's close friend) was the last one she heard about. I hope Jay and Sharon are in a better place together. RIP

there is a youtube video with diane sawyer and atkins husband dated 2002 saying she was near death and only had 3 months to live and he was hoping they would let her go. But the fact still remains- these 2 were quite definitely "TIED" together in more ways than one. BOUND together and for yet another journey after this life. I don't think they are gone, and I don't think they are apart.
The upcoming movie very close to the location has had an incredible amount of activity, and the GHOST HUNTERS episode was AMAZING.

Although I loved Mia in Rosemary- Sharon was also considered for the part- it would have given it a whole different feeling- I would have LOVED to see that. And then too, controversial topic- that this all happened because Roman filmed that movie- Hey I love horror, thrilled, suspense, mystery- I DON"T think that was the reason at all.
But the time was HECTIC energy- REALLY something else.

It always amazes me when people say they want to meet/ be with their soulmate.... well it always winds up in tears- energy is too hectic and too strong on this plane.
Most people aren't ready for the intensity- they just can imagine all the good- and don't really consider the other side of the whole soulmate issue.
I wish we had more of Sharon though, 26 years she was here -and we don't have enough. The camera absolutely LOVED her!
