Beautiful song and as always a piece of work is always open to individual interpretation. Where do we first learn about love and intimacy, ideally from loving consistent parents. Macho rodeo father? Musical on the road mother? Sometimes it's easier to reject people rather than be rejected. Nice Images.
first of all, there is no 'mr. fields' - it's mr. merritt to you, sir. there is a mrs. fields, but she makes cookies, not pop songs. someone on an earlier page something like 'no discussion needed, covers suck, except cohen's'. i'll concede there are several good interpretations of 'hallelujah', but does any serious person really assert that concrete blonde's 'everybody knows' or judy collins' 'suzanne' are the definitive versions? my point - all peter gabriel is good for is funny haircuts.
bright eyes is okay i guess but there is no way it is anywhere close to this version. I heard it, and it's just okay. I don't think it is a good choice for a cover, he kinda killed it.
Merritt does country better than country. The song is perfect, the original is untouchable, and Connor Oberst wasn't up to it. Sorry. Call Kelly Hogan and get some pointers.
@SpikeLee3000 That's your opinion. I just happen to like Conor's cover better, ya don't need to talk trash 'bout my music. I love the Magnetic Fields, AND Bright Eyes. I know nothing beats the original, because nothing does, but I just happen to like the Oberst version.
This fantastic! The shaky movie, the planned "randomness" - everything! just works. I especially love the opening with the sunspot on the windshield. Great work. Very pleased to come across it - especially since it is one of my favorite love songs. I am also a bit envious. Thanks for sharing it.
Stephin Merritt invented dubstep. As a vocal warmup.

Been playing this over and over in the car. His voice just hits the spot, and when her voice comes in it gives me chills. Love it.

this is a great song. His deep voice, the slow, relaxed tempo.

@ElectroxXxBoosh actually Merrit is gay and i dont think any straight person could write "love was a truckers hand" and be serious about it
definetly a gay love song, even if straight people can enjoy it

Beautiful song, and really nice film. Makes me homesick for the U.S. Nothing better than roadtripping the American West. Thank you.
