When Estonia was under Soviet Russian occupation, on New Year's Eve we would turn on Finnish radio and welcomed the New Year one hour after Moscow time New Year, listening to our/Finnish anthem.

I was a kid during Communism when the borders were closed and I must say, it was a good time. No Russians, no Estonians. Just Finnish and Swedish brothers. Western and Eastern people are meant to live in different countries separate from each other. They are meant to, perhaps, once in a while visit each others countries as tourists but not meant to live together.

Sävelmä Eestin kansallislaulussa taas on sama, saksalaisen Paciuksen säveltämä. Sanat eestit tosin keksivät siihen aikaisemmin kuin suomalaiset, joten siinä finskit pöllivät eesteiltä ;)

I was a kid during Communism when the borders were closed and I must say, it was a good time. No Russians, no Estonians. Just Finnish and Swedish brothers. Western and Eastern people are meant to live in different countries separate from each other. They are meant to, perhaps, once in a while visit each others countries as tourists but not meant to live together.

It is also common in South Finland and not uncommon in Central Finland. Finns have dual origins and over 70% European. 27% of Finns are hybrids of Uralic and European but since they´re European in their mtDNA, they have their ancestors in Europe and in Eastern Russia. Secondly Fenno-Ugric people are from East Russia, not West.

They don´t have any common history with Estonians, Latvians or Lithuainians. And Hungarians were never Fenno-Ugric people in the first place, they just speak a Fenno-Ugric language. Balkan people aren´t Slavs either but Southern-Europeans and related to Greeks, Italians etc. Language relation does not mean genetic relation!

MtDNA charts are not yet reliable and the samples are small so the real frequency of those haplogroups cannot be yet determined. However the findings already show that the mtDNA of Estonians is completely different from Finns. Estonians don´t, for example, haplogroup J in their mtDNA that is very common among Norwegians, Swedes and Finns.

I think Karealians might be somewhat closely related to them.

In GDP per capita, which is more important, Estonia ranks 48th while Equatorial Guinea of Africa ranks 21th. Ahead of Estonia are also countries like Oman and Trinidad and Tobago. These statistics are from Wikipedia. Nationmaster ranks Estonia as low as 97 in GDP per capita.

To the russians here, I just wan't to make clear that my problem is not with russians but with communism and anti-christian behaviour. Instead of bickering about small things we should be united against anything that threatens these values. I agree that prostitution and drinking is wrong but that should be dealt with christian values not with stupid comments. My family defended and fought for Finland(and Sweden) for hundreds of years because they loved freedom and Christ not due to hate.

What you fail to understand is that Slavic and Germanic are both Indo-European people. Also, 25.000 samples is just that 25.000 samples. My grandmother who always stood firm for the Finnish cause always supported Estonia during the terrorregime. I wouldn't be surprised if your family marched with red flags during this time.

@dreamsurferswe 25 000 is huge. Scientists have made conclusions using just a few hundred samples. 25 000 samples of only 1 million Estonians is far more than representative. Communism was actually great. The gates and borders stayed closed and Finland didn´t have to deal with Estonian and Russian scum. The unemployment of Finland in 1980´s was only 3%. Estonian low-paid workers, who don´t pay taxes, have increased the unemployment rate in Finland.

Well maybe if you read what I wrote instead of just replying you would see what I tried to tell that jewish butthead below. I have nothing against Russia. My beef is with the Red scum. They are the most vile filth that ever existed with no comparison. They de-christened Russia, this is the real reason for the criminals and prostitues someone complained about. Also: Mannerheim was Finnish from start, he was never Russian. But what did it matter when the Bolsheviks took over? Anyone who sided with Bolsheviks should be shot(I would do gladly do it myself).

@MegaStervo4ka, you also forget that most of your references are to a Russia that believed in god. In 70 years they destroyed all that with the communist scum you defend. All red belong in hell. I am proud of my grandfather who fought in the white army, winter war and continuation war(medals here to prove it). Many of my relatives also volunteered for Estonia, we ar brothers and will remain so. Nordic countries belong together.
