  • Where are his guitars now by the way...who has them? I hope someone worth having them. Anyone know?

  • @madgrk34 His Brother (Jimmy Vaughan) has them all, except for "lennie", it was sold in a charity auction, and winning bidder was Guitar Center, it sold for more than $620,000

  • @DancingSpiderman The guitar tech you speak of is Rene Martinez - he came out of retirement to work with John Mayer.

  • @thrasherfan9995 Wow, did you see that transition? That's a Pro, Rene Martinez. I enjoy John Mayer also.

Thanks for the info thrasherfan9995 !

  • Breaks a string, doesn't miss a beat. Changes guitars mid song, doesn't miss a beat. No one was better then SRV. I am so friggin glad I was able to see him early in his career before he really took off.

  • nice he can even sound awesome with 5 strings

  • What a move!

  • Really miss you Stevie.. Saw him in his first concert out of rehab in I think it was Dec. 86.. Won tickets on KLBJ the last free tics in town and the ninth caller. I surprised my hot date as we pulled up to the Austin Oprey House in my 66 Mustang.. She went ape shit.. Needless to say it was a unforgettable night. We were soo close I could have touched his beloved guitar.. He played for soo long and we got soo smashed we had to leave a little early..Thank you stevie for all the memories. Rick I.

  • I miss this dude!!!!

  • When you say "One Bad Motherfucker", there was only 1.

  • August 8, 1990...we lost an amzing talent...RIP Stevie, miss you & your guitar!!

  • @Dray437 You're off, It was the early morning of the 27th... shortly after he and the others left the show from a shorty while before.

  • @Dray437 actually it was aug 27 1990

  • 5 persons doesn't like their sisters!

  • @levikayatt4 6 viewers did not want for Stevie Ray to be messin with their Little Sister's blisters...

  • I've heard many and many guitarrist in my life (I'm only 17), ok. I play guitar as well as I can, but since I heard SRV, my life has changed. I used to love Clapton, but now, I love SRV. I use to sing Buddy Guy Songs, now I sing SRV. I used to watch videos of BB.King, now I see videos of SRV. I used to love Jimi Hendrix, or say "Jimi is the best", now I say...not, not, SRV.

I'm spanish, in my country the blues...is not a tipical music, but, literally, if SRV were spanish, Spain would be Blues.

  • @Dekazeta11 That's cool, man. Just remember that Jimmy Vaughan, Hubert Sumlin, Elmore James, Hendrix, Clapton, Buddy Guy, BB. King, ALBERT KING, Wes Montgomery, and so many more great blues musicians inspired Stevie. They can inspire you too!! Peace!

  • Miss Him'! Best concert....I saw his last one in NY before his crash.

  • way better that Steve Vai

  • That guy is fucking Superman. (SRV is awesome too.)

  • I've seen this hundreds of times and I still can't figure out how they pulled this off. Professionals. SRV was the best and so was his guitar man.

  • well well well, I guess I have to agree with TheSRalston only thing is , now it is 5, can you believe it? let me say it please, what the f**k is wrong with you people? only to watch the sweating, that is a man doing what he enjoys! God, if you know you won't enjoy it, go elsewhere, in the meantime, play on Stevie!

  • That's a bad ass roadie

  • Gosh I Miss this man, thanks for the video

  • I wanna see the reaction of the person who watches this video, stops paying attention for like 20 seconds, and then notices that his guitar changed colors.

  • In all honesty, I thought he was just switching out guitars because he didn't like the first on.

  • @Gears6985 the one that srv switched was his first guitar and he loved it

  • @Gears6985 you didnt see that broken telephone cable?

  • Comment removed

  • Comment removed

  • get it Reese

  • still cant believe he uses up to .14's...

    Rene saved the day xD

  • @FreaquedeMusique right? how do u snap one of those? theyre like tow truck cables.

  • @KMAC6013 Haha soo true... but i was thinking... the tension must be greater to get the right note, since the string it thicker so its actually kind of logical that it breaks faster than thin strings... but yeah its insane...

  • @FreaquedeMusique As a player myself, I can say from expeirence that thicker strings are harder to break. It takes a lot to snap one of those suckers. However there are a lot of factors that can cause breakage of strings. Stevie just played super hard, causing them them to break. :)

  • @GuitarFang yeah his attack is insane, but thats most important to his tone!

  • Hahaha cool. I have this DVD and don't remember seeing this.

  • I love how the crowd reacts to the guitar change lol

  • All the love to SRV of course, but that's some pretty mean keyboard work there too. We all came to hear the guitar, no doubt, but you've just got to tip a cap to the man on the piano along the way;.

  • He played with .13 gauge strings and still managed to snap what looked like either the A or low E string. He played with such intensity! And that guitar switchover was just totally sublime haha.

  • @deltafit it wasnt the low E or A it was he B string if you pause at 3:02 yo can see it but still an amazing switch

  • Pimp at 1:40

  • bien ahi el plomo siempre atento, jeje

  • Fantastic video... no one better than SRV. Love him!

  • so legendary!!!! :D

  • Like a NASCAR pit stop. I bet they practiced that in the studio.

  • I have this from a box set on DVD from Austin City Limits and I am still amazed at the phenomenal talent>>>if you just heard it and didn't see it, you woud never know he broke a string. F'n nuts!!

  • fucking amazing, so effortless

  • René Martinez probably had that guitar re-strung before the end of the song

    that was one smooth transition.

  • I just want to know the 3 persons who dislike this video, and ask them simply "what the fuck is wrong with you?"

  • @TheSRalston The same thing that's wrong with the two people who have joined them, I guess.

  • @TheSRalston They are probably rappers and there are no F words in this song

  • @dqfreemind Ha, ha...there aren´t!! But there are in my original comment :-(

  • @TheSRalston I know what's wrong with them. They are heartless psychopaths with NO taste in music, or art for that matter. Fuck 'em.

  • THE STRING BROKE?!! OH NO -- Oh, wait, it doesn't matter. He doesn't even pause for a second. Just keeps rockin...

  • That was a SMOOTH TRANSITION...That's a professional folks !!

  • @TheRiceowlex that was smooth man , totally awesome

  • that was the most baller shit ive ever seen god damn

  • That's exactly why he is my "FAVORITE ARTIST OF ALL TIME" !!!! TExasCandi..:)

  • Can you imagine the force needed to break one of "his" strings?... think about it folks.

  • The best.

  • How to break a .13 string set?!

  • Fuck he's good.

  • The piano player is way ahead of his time with an iPhone 4 with a sick case at 2:13

  • This is AMAZING! He blew a string and finishes his solo as if nothing even went wrong XD And then the guy comes out with another guitar like it's just routine or something...

And look at the keyboard player at 2:09!!!

And about missing some notes..this is SRV, none of his solos are exactly the same because he improvises them.

  • actually, he did miss a couple notes. two exactly. since he was changing guitars, he missed the notes in his little solo part where he sings the shakin like a tree and what not, he usually strums and whammy's with his hand a little. though he did miss a couple notes, he's still masterful and my idol

  • ~2:42 string break

  • And he did all of this without a guitar teacher, Amazing

  • Comment removed

  • he doesn't play with a broken string, he switches guitars

  • @subduedblue no ya don't get it. see when a string breaks in the middle of a song you ether stop the song and change guitars or the string or you wait till the song ends and then change guitars or the string. if something like that where to happen at one of my dad's shows we would have probably stopped the song its just the fact that the change of the guitar was so smooth without Stevie missing a lyric or their being starter feedback from the new guitar. thats what makes it so awesome.

  • @subduedblue Because he broke the A-sting at 2:42!!!!!

  • @subduedblue you just dont get it

  • love the spot at 1:40, stevie having fun!!!!!! amazing!!!!!

  • To xfootba11 check out the john mayer trio itll blow ur mind

  • I never get tired of watching this!

  • I swear Reese Wynans has hands coming out of his beard. His solos are electrifying! Even though most would call it Stevie's band, they all very well created one entity; and that's due to their talent and chemistry, making them more than just "Stevie Ray Vaughan's band." The three original of Double Trouble with the addition of Reese really were a solid group both musically and personally. They were so sound and tight that they were more than just backing music for Stevie and he would agree.

  • Imagine the music he would be making today. He would have changes the world. I'm only 14 but my dad has videos of him and this just blows me away. Even today NOBODY plays with the kind of talent and soul that SRV did.

  • This must be a guitar roadie's wet dream.

  • @upsidedaan LOL nicee

  • Oh Yeeeeah.

  • 3 people dont like this? How you like any kind of music and NOT like this?

  • Mr. Music itself. Vaughan doesn't play the music, the music actually plays him !

  • yeah a huge loss along with all the other great musicians we lost in our generation i loved him and love this song how smooth was he changing that guitar haha

  • yeah a huge loss along with all the other great musicians we lost in our generation i loved him and love this song

  • Too bad he died sooooo young!!!!

  • Unbelievable shame that Stevie's no longer with us. VOTE UP IF THIS IS THE SMOOTHEST THING EVER!!! RIP SRV, what a man. x

  • THE BLUESMAN!

  • True artist and virtuoso and dammit that roadie is the man

  • it actually did go out of tune but he started playing higher up the neck

  • I'll never get over that clip... I remember the first time I saw that, over a decade ago, like it was yesterday... "HOLY SHIT WHAT JUST HAPPENED??"

  • any diehard srv fans know how the thing stays in tune when the string breaks? didn't he use the trem set up to float? is he just bending back to pitch? anybody know how his axe was set-up? help me with an answer if u can, my mind is blown :)

  • @me86680 It's Stevie man, ask no questions!

  • @creat3d ha ha, yeah man only srv!

  • @me86680

Absolutely NO clue. I've beentrying to figure out how to do that ever sice I broke my first string.

  • @me86680

You can hear the low E it is slightly out of tune just before he signals the swap and he does that heavy vibrato will bending it to pitch soaking up some time but Stevie had really heavy gauge strings and when he popped what I think is his G-string (HA HA HA ok, seriously maybe B or E) it wouldnt go out as bad.

I wonder if that was Rene Martinez doing the swap, he is one of the greatest guitar techs out there IMO, now he is with John Mayer : I

  • @PIlotrcm lol was here literally just to check to see if it was Rene doing the swap!

  • @PIlotrcm Really? Rene Martínez is with John Mayer? damn, get that clown mayer out of the stage, Rene SHOULD be the one in the stage and Mayer HIS roadie...if he can handle how to setup a guitar...

  • Best Ever!!!!!

  • guys please see that those are 13 gauge strings in other words FUCKING BIG

  • If any of today's mainstream "rock" guitarists broke a string during a concert. They would probably end up running out backstage crying their fuckin' eyes out or ask for a do over.

  • that was so perfect like as if it was planned

  • Sometimes the strings just couldn't handle the awesomeness!

  • and he still finishes his solo......

  • Great guitarist and a great guitar tech....

  • Yep that was the best changeover I've ever seen. Never seen anyone not miss a beat or lose any intenisity like that. I agree with you Editorlife-God I miss the guy...

  • Not to downplay how awesome he is on this, but no matter how many times I've seen this, that guitar change never gets less awesome.

  • Didn't miss a fucking beat...too cool!

  • 1:58 you may now be jealous. You aren't allowed to be jealous of Stevie, because... well, you shouldn't be jealous of the God of Blues.

  • When some players break a string they take it down a notch, fearful of breaking another. Watching him continue to churn full blast on 5 strings is almost as much fun as watching the swap, and hearing the crowd cheer when he pulls it off. God I miss this guy.

  • we have people talking about tennis on a SRV video...what is the world coming to?

  • Crack !

  • OH MY GOD, HE BEATS CHUCK NORRIS ANYDAY

  • I grew up listening to this man, and i have to say he is the third best guitarist behind jimi hedrix and bb king, the man broke a string and still played like water. RIP.

  • @JAKE2010512 dude... HE is the best!!!

  • @JAKE2010512

Third best??? Damn, how do you calculate the rankings? Using a specific formula? Would you share it with the world at large?

  • Stevie Ray makes guitar performance flow like water while making it look and sound real easy.

    MASTERFUL! ALWAYS!

  • I can't stop watching it. It's like a magic trick.

  • @frac Looks like he started to sweat a little more after it broke! Good thing they had a plan and he stayed cool. Agassi went on court with about eight rackets, all freshly strung that day, to be ready for any loss of strings or string tension. One broken string could cost him half a million dollars in prize money and the endorsements to follow. [It's in his book "Open."]

  • @JoeyFudd What?

  • That was in-credible...can't wait to see what happens when the keyboard dude breaks a key!

  • good time to swap the guitar

  • énooooOOOOorme on se croirait dans un stand de formule 1 !

  • a true guitarist doesn't care if he is missing a string

  • What a savage, too cool to even be phased by the broken string and guitar change.

  • That guitar tech was right on it....like the pit crew !!!! cool :)

  • that is the epitomy of a great guitar tech

  • He was so awesome.

  • This is for my little sisteer Lizzie!! Luv You CindySue

  • I would say that they did rehearse a change like that. The rodie probably already had experience is doing stuff like that so it was a matter of trust. Stevie flat out knew the guy was going to do his job and be there. Professional all the way.

  • if you go to acl interview0stevie ray vaughn ,there a two or three unreleased trcks recorded in austin

  • I wonder if they ever practiced that change over....i mean talk about flawless

  • i wish i was there
