  • As far as killing power and taking down the repeaters.. most have a battery or two with wind or solar or both.

  • @slamdvw And a Faraday Cage, at least the backup equipment.

  • Im a ham as well. I also have cb as well as gmrs/frs radios. Why? They were cheap when I bought them ( on sale.. yard sales.. etc ). Like a gun.. Id rather have it and not need it than the other way around.

  • whatcha gonna do when they kill the power supply no more repeaters

  • @SuperGozzy I don't need repeaters to get out, they just make it a little easier. The real question is what are you going to do when every key-up of your Children's Band radio brings a bunch of 'extras' from Deliverance to your door? Squeal like a peeeeg!

  • In the face of real, Katrina like SHTF, the authorities will be worrying their own families, not whats happening on a low watt radio. Its EMP attack that demands some real thinking and consideration

  • I hate ham....gmrs is better

  • @alexjonesviewer As a licensed ham, I applaud your decision. Don't leave mad...just leave!

  • I'm going to get a gmrs mobile unit

  • Since you are in the military (I'll take your word on it) have you heard of Meteor Burst communications?

I'm over the Atlantic here in Ireland and if SHTF I would like to be able to contact you HAMS in the US. Currently I'm awaiting an email from the Communications Regulator here (our FCC) but as far as I'm aware our Laws on the matter are pretty similar to yours.

I'm mainly interested in learning more on VLF communications(for long range) and Meteor Burst Communications-long range low power

  • hey RW, what do ya think of of havng a HAM and a CB in a BOV?

  • If TSHTF I would think my Kenwood R-1000 shortwave receiver would be most valuable since it can receive AM and shortwave (USB, LSB and AM).

I also have Uniden scanners for VHF and up.

  • Carry light folks. I wouldn't be locked in a house during this shit. You will want to be mobile at all times. Anyone that thinks you will be just fine sitting at home with guns is a fool. When your house is set fire, to just get you out of it you will do so. Medicine, Seeds, Small amount of silver, Ammo, Guns and light weight foods is key. I would recommend water purifier pills and water filters. To carry the needed water will be way to much. Good luck folks. My horses are ready and so am I.

  • i am personally stocking up on every useful tangible good i can use.. now and in the future... this is some serious stuff..... we are getting ready for a hell of a ride here... very scary stuff... stock up on hygiene products / food. / water/ ammo// and household goods and clothes you need.. very serious business we are about to go through.. dollars have been devalued on purpose in this country. i also have bought ham radios hf. and vhf . n0amy..

  • to hell with the license if case of collapse.. the fcc can eat shit and die.

  • For those that think the "hoo-haa" of getting the FCC required education isn't important, watch the video and hear some reasons why you want to participate for the knowledge that you may need later. "ham club", "repeater", ore even the "a good ham doesn't need a repeater" guy with 4thumbups, etc.

OH, and actually doing, can't be replaced by reading a book you have to recall 2 yrs later.

  • frs and gmrs radios (sports radios) by law are reserved for emergency responders in an emergency situation. the Mormon church (lds) offers free classes on ham usage and license tests (fcc fee). they also coordinate noah weather spotter classes and CERT emergency response training. for the ham class you only need to buy the book (at cost from the class or online) call the local bishops storehouse/cannery and they can probably point you in the right direction (will take a few calls)

  • If you think about it, If theres a total colapse and loss of electricity. Most of the repeaters will go down as well. Rendering ham radio's no better than C.B. radio. Also, as someone else said, "if you have a licence, they know-who-and-where-you-are." I would prefer that no one know that info, unless I decide to give it to them.

  • @Nighthawk368 Most all Amateur Radio Repeaters are sponsored by Clubs and well equipped & maintained. Every repater that I know about in my area, Metro Wash DC, is equipped with Battery BU & Solar Recharge Capability. Many have Generators. Regular exercises are done to ensure Long Term comms capability. Amateurs Operators Pride ourselves on the fact that when all else fails, we wont. Ron KB3VEW ( 750K licensed HAMS in USA, whose coming to get us when SHTF?, no one is going after them face it)

  • this might be a stupid question, but will the internet still work after a collapse?

any replies would be great thanks

  • For outside contacts: CB, FRS/GMRS

For private short range group communication: Nextel i355 set to Direct Talk (no contract rquired, but you need a SIM card) For more infor Google Nextel Direct Talk. It is an OFF-NETWORK service where the phone is a 0.7W walkie talkie.

Motorola DTR is similar but more expensive. Google for more info.

    For intel monitoring:

Muliple scanners, shortwave receivers, a near field receiver, and spectrum analyser.

    Good luck.

  • roadworrior we need to make contact ,in order to set comm. if you want to do this .usa

  • If anyone wants their ham radio license contact me. I can show you a much faster way of getting your license, without buying anything what-so-ever. (other than the license fee) - IE: No books, no classes, etc.

  • When the collapse (which from my research is coming SOON) comes Ham Radio and CB radio will both have there place. Ham radio could be used, for example, could be used for long range intel gathering, and for coordination. Cb will be used for communicating with the general populance, and for short range, tactical communication (FRS and GMRS are also good as well).

  • With a license they know where u are broadcasting from and they know who u are .

  • @fallenangil1 thats crap. you start causing problems on the air and the other hams will track your ass down themselves. the government allows hams to self police and self regulate themselves. that's RARE and it took along time to get that status. they want to keep it that way so everyone can enjoy without big brother mucking around. be part of the community and contribute or don't get in at all. you give your call sign so others can help you if your rig is malfunctioning.

  • With a license they know where u are broadcasting from and they know who u are

  • yes, i experienced total communication loss. it was in an island-isolated at that after a typhoon and landslide that killed teachers and students in a school in the said island. total blackout. no power for 4 days, no t.v.,no radio, except for those who had batteries. the only communication was through amateur radio-VHF. we had to use radio to coordinate rescue and relief operations. travel was impossible. i went in by chopper some by boat-which was slow. so yes, thanks to amateur radio

  • During a collapse, wouldn't the existing government be using tracking devices specific for HAM radio's; to locate you?

  • @TFfanantic more than likely they would be wanting to use you to restore order. it is a long standing tradition in the ham community. when Mexico city got hit with the earth quake it was hams who led the way to getting help... not the government.governments responded to information passed out by the hams. government loves hams they aren't going to track them down. in a wrol situation they will have their hands full with other crap. btw directional antenna can limit exposure while xmitting

  • Are you a licensed ham?

  • Uridium phones?

  • @3051michael1 If they work at all, they are prepaid and expensive at that.

Once your minutes were gone that's all she wrote.

  • OK what about EMP? Will that equipment survive the electromagnetic pulse resulting from an atomic/nuclear blast? How would you construct a faraday cage?

  • One of the most informative vid's I've seen in a LONG time my friend.

Could you put up a vid about your grab and go com case with prices listed please. This would greatly help those good intentioned com/ham noobs like myself.

    It would be greatly appreciated.

  • Quick question - do you think when the economic collapse happens they will have the bandwidth to monitor unlicensed HAM radio operators? If so how would they go about doing so?

    Thanks!!

  • @TheBgcheez "they" don't really have the capability to do that now, let alone send out a DF van fleet to do it if TSHTF. Just be responsible, get your license.

  • without the licence chances are you wont have a clue how to use it as you wont have practice in coms and know what freqs are used etc.. LOL. use the VX8DR and without using it and Tx on a reg basis u up a creek trying to use it..

  • @TheBgcheez really dont think the fcc will be in opperation, im more worried about the other nasty people that may have or get their hands on the tracking equiptment. Either way the pros of having solid communication outweighs the slight possibility of someone comming after you.

  • @TheBgcheez The only people worth communicating with SHTF will be the licensed hams, and if you pirate, none of us will hear you! If you need help from me, and you're not licensed, call on FRS or MURS, which I have too, or call on CB, which I do not have, plenty of others do.

  • Do you have to know Morse Code to get your HAM license?

  • @TheBgcheez I'm a licensed ham and the requirement for morse code have been lifted within the last year or two. check out QRZ for some practice test and find a local tester.

  • @ccg711 - Thank you!!!

  • Being a HAM myself (KD8ELY) i highly recomend getting your ticket and a good radio. It' said that when all else fails ham radio is there. Most radios like mine can be run from different power souces as well 110AC in your home, 12VDC from your car, antennas can be made from almost anything electricly conductive, and with the bigger HF radios, communications thousands of miles are just as easy as talking to a buddy next to you

  • eff the cc

  • great videos , comm. is a must for a "situation" however shouldnt you have a way to monitor other comm. signals ??? scanners are another great tool for maintaining opsec. know where the opfor is and miantain your situational awareness, after all in the event of systemic collapse it will become increasingly hard to determine friend and foe

  • @hotrod668 I was looking into that at one time (so many hobbies). A lot of municipalities like fire, rescue and police use the trunking technology.

  • I bought a radio at Target that was only $50. Isn't that sufficient enough?

  • My government issued callsign is "EAT ME"

  • lol COME IN EAT ME.....COME N EAT ME!

  • all i need in a collapse is my cb and my ak

  • Man screw all that hammy ham stuff yall, even with them repeaters a cber with a linear can talk way farther and drop the hammer. go watch my videos.

  • You my good sir are a complete boob! Hams talk WORLDWIDE. And were it not for HAM radio CB wouldnt exsist. The problem with CB isnt the radios it's the thousands of rednecks and mexicans (drug runners) that keep it clogged up and useless for good citizens and those in need.

  • cbers talk worldwide acshually. hams gotta have a repeater to talk across town.

  • Not so my friend. A good Ham doesnt need a repeater to do anything. All you need is math, science ,and a little ingenuity to talk to any point on the planet. You have to have a linear amplifier and that wont be worth scrap metal when the gas runs ou in your truck or when the power goes out in your house. Me, I have solar and alot of other ways to run mine . CB has it's place but that place isnt reliable worlwide communications.

  • @scdefion Agreed, you just can't depend on "skip" to be there every day.

  • If there was a collapse in communications, would a person even give a hoo-haa abt FCC regulations & licensing? Just curious.

  • Actually in an emergency no , you wouldnt give a hoot in hell about the rules. Survival has no rules.

  • exactly. the ONLY rule is to do ANYTHING it takes to survive. period. no exceptions.

  • @sassylindalou What makes you think licensed hams will tolerate unlicensed operators SHTF when we don't now? There are 700,000+ of us, maybe 300,000 are active now. You're going to use ham bands and not be detected and shut down? Fantasy land, FRS & CB are for you lazy folks!

  • So... transmission over open channels without an SOI, freq hopping, or encryption using an analog system?

No thanks, there are other ways to have comms and not get zeroed by signal corps. or the FCC.

  • Getting the Tech ticket is so eeeeeeeaasssssssyyyyy. So eassssssyyyyyyy. Hope you all can join the ranks soon. And get off of VHF and go for HF.

  • a very cool vid i have a cb . and i have a lot of chanels that reg cb dont have and a lot of ham chanels

  • what about a solar charger for the mobile kit. will that work, they sell them at rei and other places. I don't own one and was wandering if anyone can comment on them . Are they any good ?

  • They work so-so as long as the sun is shining. Ship REI and just build your own. google it. there are lots of guides to help you...

  • yes they can be good but your gonna pay for it. i could recommend a couple if your still looking? for a mobile kit id definitely go with a folding panel.

  • Thanks, please if you have a recommendation iI would be thankful.

  • thanks for all your info and to let everyone know about it . the experiance that you have are probably the most important thing to share . GoooooD Job .

  • AM Freqs better than HAM Freqs when shtf, much tougher to track. Keep saying this, people either don't believe it , or do not understand why. You can get a regular handheld walkie-T with CB freqs for 5 times less the price than this hammy. BTW, you can enhance that Yaesu up really easy by just removing ONE small component ;)

  • I probably couldn't get one, too expensive, I have some walkie talkies. I've been preparing in other ways, shielding from Mind Control Radio Waves and Compton Effect (Faraday Cage), the past 2 years I got wind and solar power with all the accessories, food water, g_uns amoo, cammo kevlar, etc. It takes a lot of sacrifice to save up and get this kind of stuff.

That's good if Celltowers become disabled, they're deathtowers, poisoning the airwaves.

  • a good movie strength for popularization of hamradioa an example followed by the national federations to raise the number of hamradioi.

  • hate to be a stick in the mud but if there is a collapse in communication how do you know there will be electricity? Do you plan to have a generator too?

  • I am studying as we speak.

  • Good stuff.

  • just got my ham a couple months ago.

    love your channel!

    Chance Favors the Prepared !!!

  • @civildisorder44 Luck is where preparation meets opportunity.

  • Terminator!

  • Love that song at the begining of your videos. It sticks in my head all day after watching your videos. Everyone is getting weapons (hand guns) but not many know how to clean them. can you do a video on cleaning a hand gun? OUT
