Street racing is such a stupid way to compare the performance of two cars... In no REAL racing situation will you drive side by side, honk three times and press the gas.

@vipeme1 I'm a racing instructor so I actually do know a lot about racing- not everything, but a lot. I've smoked several SRT-4's who spent thousands on suspension and had ~150 more HP than my stock SRT-4. I just feel like this kind of driving on the highway is irresponsible. Highway pulls also are not relevant enough. Pre-entry braking, line selection, smooth throttle/ steering input plays a bigger role than a roll comparison. IE:The 350hp SRT-4's would smoke me from a pull, but still lost.

@MARCD832 lol yes, a stock LS1 GTO is slow, lol, they are a 5.3 second 0-60, and car and driver had their pro driver couldnt do any better than a 13.62. thats slow concidering the competition that year was the cobra, and car and driver had the cobra doing 12.7-12.8 in the 1/4 mile with like a 4.5ish 0-60, so almost a full second behind ur only competitor, yeah thats slow. unless u drive a civic :)

The SRT 4 sounds stock, the intake only gets you a little bit of hp. I put a Stage 2 kit no toys on mine and I was smokin the 5.7 GTO's. But not the 6.0 GTO's those are a lot faster. I had to have my 50 trim turbo upgrade to beat those. Hot Rods are cool and fun. All of them.

Cant belive the gto left srt4 like that. Ls1 gto isnt that fast. I beat one in my heavy ass 300 by a half car length the other night . Full tank with 2 passengers.

@hemiowner105 GTO's are ridiculous, no matter what you race against. Keep in mind, SRT-4... 4. It's a 4 cylinder. The GTO is a V8. lol an intake and tune is a good start but you need a lot to beat 350 hp of american muscle. Plus, the LS2 GTO is a full second faster on the 0-60 time. They're brilliantly made.

@chestax all i know is, ive driven an 04 with boltons, and it wasnt very fast at all, so i ended up buying an HR 350z after trying a bunch of cars, and it's faster than the one i drove, so i just figured the 6.0 is significantly faster, i havent actually raced one, but from what i heard they were pretty quick.
@PutzkiSniper Sorry dude, I know some people call it the GTO but I think that it died back in the era of the muscle cars. Someone at GM or Vauxhall made this mess, threw a LS series motor (think its a 1 not sure) in it and slapped a name plate on it. I'll stick with the car I grew up with.
@dkicks10, when I say same class I don't mean just performance level. My GTO will walk a BWM 7 series....does that mean my car is better or in the same class? Absolutely not. If all you are looking for is speed, then yes, the SRT-4 and GTO are similar. And if your Neon is truly stock, there is no way it would beat a stock 6.0 liter GTO. I've never seen a stock SRT4 break 13.80 at the drag strip. I ran a 13.71 in my stock 5.7 liter GTO, and I can't drive!
The D-bag in the GTO just got a supercharger.....so he's a good bit faster now. And the GTO vs Neon argument is stupid. The SRT4 is a tuner piece of crap, the interior quality is junk, the car is junk, but it has a healthy breathing turbo'd 4 banger. It is in now way shape or form in the same class as the GTO.

Both are really nice cars, just depends on your budget and preference. If you have $13k, and like "American muscle" then go with the GTO, but for the same $13k you could get an SRT-4 and go 50 Trim, full turbo back exhaust and tune.
Srt4's are the only 4 cyl that can own nearly every car if done right. Here's why, imagin a 2.4l 4cyl, and a 5.0 v-8. If BOTH had the same throttle sized intake, The 4cyl will have TWICE the air displacement just upon entry. Plus Srt4 are DOHC, 4 valves a cyl + Also half the cylinder size. Meaning Air gets in and out the srt4 more than three times as quick as the 5.0 v8. Its the 2.4's long stroke, turbo placing, timing & tuning, super light weight, super fast intake/outtake, its PHYSICS bitch
personally im not a fan of either the srt4 or the newer gto but usually the srt4 pulls on pretty much anything but i guess it depends on the driver and how your tuned

@maxleal0 im going to say that this GTO is an 04 although it does have hood scoops...the duel exhuast coming out the back left of the bumper says '04. i know a lot of people put the 05 & 06 hoods on 04's cause it looks better. but i don't know anyone who would take out those big exhaust tips found on 05 and 06's. and to tell if it is an 05 or an 06 all you have to do is look at the tail lights. 04 and 05's have all red tail lights. 06 taillights are black out around the light bulbs :)
@68showngo i have raced against the srt4's and yes they deserve respect in that aspect....but to say that its the only 4banger i would own.....i would take an Evo IX or X or an STI ( not the new hatch...its hideous)....there are plenty of 4bangers that can and have made me look weak.

@TheHevquip when the srt 4 came out, it was the 2nd fastest dodge chrystler ect, vehicle they ever produced. faster than the talon turbo, faster than the stealth (mitsubishi 300gt) and all the muscle cars before it. it may be an econocar, but its also a pocket rocket.

The srt 4 is faster than the stealth. with a 5.4 0-60 time only the 1968 charger with a 426 hemi is faster, with a 5.3 0-60. but in the corners the srt would walk all over it. if were talking track fast srt4 wins hands down. quarter-mile fast, its a close call.
@crusaderpat track car, yeah, but drag car, hell no. the gto is not built for all around performance as much as an srt-4 is, there are the naysayers who say oh yeah it is yaddah yaddh bs, they stick a 325 hp motor into a car with minimum suspension upgrades in comparison to the power it makes.
Hey, don't listen to these other tools. The SRT4 is a quick a car. Yes it's cheap. It was built to be cheap and affordable. Biggest bang for your buck as far as HP per dollar spent new. You've got a car there that cost $19k new that's just a little slower than one that cost $36k new. I think you're doing alright. And before the homos chime in saying I'm Neon fan boi, I own an 05 GTO. I've got respect for any car that performs though.

We all just want the same things- just choosing different paths to get our kicks. Anything <8 Cyl. will always try to become the underdog and anything 8 Cyl or more will always try and squash new "muscle" w/ old "muscle". I'm pretty sure the Neon had a little more than 240 hp and the GTO for that year is less than 400 hp. Take away power from the V-8 and add some to the Neon and ya got a pretty fair race.

@maxleal0 im going to say that this GTO is an 04 although it does have hood scoops...the duel exhuast coming out the back left of the bumper says '04. i know a lot of people put the 05 & 06 hoods on 04's cause it looks better. but i don't know anyone who would take out those big exhaust tips found on 05 and 06's. and to tell if it is an 05 or an 06 all you have to do is look at the tail lights. 04 and 05's have all red tail lights. 06 taillights are black out around the light bulbs :)

I'm a v8 fan 100% but the srt-4 is pretty nice... about the only Dodge sports car and pretty much the only 4 banger I would ever own.

@68showngo i have raced against the srt4's and yes they deserve respect in that aspect....but to say that its the only 4banger i would own.....i would take an Evo IX or X or an STI ( not the new hatch...its hideous)....there are plenty of 4bangers that can and have made me look weak.

@TheHevquip when the srt 4 came out, it was the 2nd fastest dodge chrystler ect, vehicle they ever produced. faster than the talon turbo, faster than the stealth (mitsubishi 300gt) and all the muscle cars before it. it may be an econocar, but its also a pocket rocket.

The srt 4 is faster than the stealth. with a 5.4 0-60 time only the 1968 charger with a 426 hemi is faster, with a 5.3 0-60. but in the corners the srt would walk all over it. if were talking track fast srt4 wins hands down. quarter-mile fast, its a close call.

Hey, don't listen to these other tools. The SRT4 is a quick a car. Yes it's cheap. It was built to be cheap and affordable. Biggest bang for your buck as far as HP per dollar spent new. You've got a car there that cost $19k new that's just a little slower than one that cost $36k new. I think you're doing alright. And before the homos chime in saying I'm Neon fan boi, I own an 05 GTO. I've got respect for any car that performs though.

We all just want the same things- just choosing different paths to get our kicks. I'm pretty sure the Neon had a little more than 240 hp and the GTO for that year is less than 400 hp. Take away power from the V-8 and add some to the Neon and ya got a pretty fair race.
