  • To all the people who write 'spoiling' or derogatory comments to posts of music like this, why do you waste your time? My grandmother used to say if you can't say something good about someone you should keep your mouth firmly shut. Music like this doesn't need justification, especially as no-one is asking for any money for it. As for the inane comments from blateroid2, shut up, you're showing your ignorance. I like this song even though I don't understand the words, why not be positive?

  • @RKsk8ting Finns stem from Chinese people

  • @TheAlienBug Finnish stemming from the Chinese - what an Earth are you talking about?

  • @EneriGiilaan Remote relatives, also hard-working and many of them gifted,

  • @TheAlienBug Remote relatives yes - we all are actually, same species, originally from Africa.

Nothing against Chinese and surely Finns have a statistically significant distribution of "Asian" genetic markers - but because over 90 percent of all the markers are "Western" it is quite a stretch to say that "Finns" stem from "Chinese" (and btw Asian doesn't equal Chinese).

  • @RKsk8ting what are you talking about..

  • @danomu sickminded fucker :))

  • @danomu ur so childish :D

  • LEVAN POLLKA <3

  • So catchy! I love it!

  • What's the song about?

  • Great melody. It's a native Finnish melody??

  • @kakha1974 It is generally considered a Finnish folk tune from (at least) late 1700's, so it is very old - the area of origin is from the South-East Finland close to the current Russian border. There is a similar Russian folk song from the Smolensk area - it is not known in which direction the influences have gone in this case.

  • Finland RULEZ \m/ \m/

  • This discussion about definitions and usage of the term 'Scandinavia' seems to be very important for many of my fellow Nordics.

As a short interruption and for calming down I propose everyone to listen the newest hit of the Finnish band 'Scandinavian Music Group'* Kaunis Marjaana (Beautiful Marjaana):

    watch?v=vYXbbu4_4NI

    * Yes - the name is a joke (they tried to come up with the most lame name they could invent) and one (deliberate) entry point for this endless discussion.

  • @EneriGiilaan Looking from the Space Shuttle's point of view - all dividing lines are arbitrary.

Well EneriGiilaan, at least you didn't have to clarify the 'Ei poi' business on this thread ;-)

Thanks for the pointer to the 'Scandinavian Music Group' video. They seem sort of like a new incarnation of Ultra Bra..

  • @ralphyboy25 Yeah - this was a nice diversion from my 'regular job' ;)

There are indeed still three members from UB in the SMG - I wouldn't call them exactly a 'new' incarnation though, they continued more or less immediately after the disbanding of UB in 2001 - boy was that already decade ago!

UB music was more original but one of the nice features they carried from UB is the sharply focused but empathetic irony in the lyrics when describing the life of the young urban adults of today.

  • why does this give me goosebumps? o.0 creepy..

  • @narutofreak12312312 Yeah go Scandinavia :D

  • @john47882 Yess!! Norway, Sweden, Finland, Denmark , Iceland, Greenland FTW !!!

  • @john47882 Finland is not a part of Scandinavia... Scandinavia = Sweden, Norway and Denmark.

Finland is on the other hand, like Sweden, Norway and Denmark, part of the 'Nordic Countries' (Iceland is also part of the nordic countries). Sorry for being a besserwisser, just thought you might want to know :)

  • @Narre5 Damn American school failed me again.

  • @Narre5 That's what I was taught here in America, too. Damn, our schools suck so much.

  • @Narre5 Oh my, ur wrong bout that.. Finland IS part of Scandinavia, it has been part of Sweden, and norway / sweden are attatched to Finland too... so.. -.-

  • @SuomiRS Haha uhm. No mate, Finland is not part of Scandinavia. Sweden and Norway is attached to the whole bloody europe (except for some island-countries, like Great Britain) does that mean all of europe is part of Scandinavia?

Scandinavia is the countries where you speak Scandinavian languages. As you know Swedish, Norwegian and Danish sound and is written pretty much alike, we can understand eachother. Finnish has absolutely no resemblance at all with the scandinavian languages.

  • @Narre5 Never ending discussion on definitions. Your is a linguistic one, but then what about Iceland? And of course Swedish is the second official language of Finland and everyone has to learn it in school? Geographical def includes only Sweden and Norway. Political def specifically in 60's-80's included Finland because the system was so similar with e.g., Sweden. Historic def. Finland was integral part of Sweden from the very beginning. Defs keep changing. The term 'Nordic' is less confusing.

  • @EneriGiilaan Well written. But my "linguistic one" was just an example and I did think aboud thr fact that Icelandic language is pretty similiar to the scandinavian aswell. Especially when it's written.

And how it was 30-50 years ago doesn't really matter today. 500 years ago Finland was part of Sweden, that does not mean it is today.

If you google it or look it up in a book written in the past few decades it will say that today Finland is not part of scandinavia.

  • @Narre5 I'm afraid the terminology is not that clear outside the Nordic countries. Just check the various web-encyclopedia entries. They start with the 'nominal' def and then add that Finland is usually/sometimes/... included based on cultural/political/historical/... reasons. I guess looking from afar the language is not that important v.s. e.g., sociological - the term 'Nordic' is not well known so 'Scandinavian' is used instead.

  • @SuomiRS Hmm. Sweden is attached to finland yeah, Finland is attached to Russia, Russia is attached to Ukraine, Ukraine is attached to Romainia, Romainia is attached to Bulgarea, Bulgarea is attached to Turkey. Yeah I think you get the point, Are they also Scandinavia countrys? Hmm, or maby you are just retarded.

  • @spenatjonas And finland has been part of Sweden.. so, why we aren't somehow now part of Scandinavia??? Are YOU the retarded? What school did teach u suck bs?

  • @SuomiRS Calm down buddy - even no one in Finland claims Finland to be part of "skandinavia" so why get so upset. The meaning of the word in English speaking world is varying depending on the context - but we here should be able to separate 'Scandinavian' and 'Nordic'. The speakers of the related languages, based on Old Norse, seem to need a word for that grouping of nations and Scandinavia is a natural term - so why not let them use it for that purpose?

  • @Narre5 Finland counts as part of the Scandinavia, some Swedish ppl are somehow saying theyre Nordic, no, its not... if u watch world map, example, we could cut Finland to half, wich would make it "scandinavian area" and the "Nordic area", overall Finland is mostly part of Scandinavia.

  • @SuomiRS Google "Scandinavia".

    Your argument is invalid.

  • @SuomiRS Words get their meaning by usage, there is always a context. It would be totally inane to draw lines on a map and insist that Finland must be included in 'Scandinavia' due to geography, when speaking e.g., about the 'Scan languages' (and BTW your geography sucks in any case).

It is not a crime to include Fin in to Scan when discussing e.g. welfare state with someone abroad and there is no time to lecture about Nordic vs. Scandinavian - but between us the distinction should be clear.

  • @SuomiRS u mad bro

  • @Aaao0ohhh umadbrah?

  • @SuomiRS um... no. Finland is on the Scandinavian peninsula, but it's not Scandinavian. And Sweden is Nordic.

  • @skyhawk431 Id give a fuck for some stupid argue?

  • @SuomiRS What? that sentence mmade no sense. You have a lot to learn about your own country.

  • @Narre5 finaland is a part of Scandinavia i should know my sister lives in finland, i come from sweden myself

  • @evilskills Seriously, why won't people just give up? Google it damnit. Finland is NOT a part of Scandinavia, even though many think they are.

And how the hell can your sister be from finland and you from Sweden?

I'm also from Sweden btw and it makes me abit sad that you don't even know which countries are part of Scandinavia. Go back to school

  • @Narre5 well maybe because she moved there and plus i am already in school and will be for the next 7,5 years and yes i am going to law school and am getting some proper education compared to you.

  • @evilskills Yeah law school will teach you so much geogrophy.

    Just fucking google it, please.

  • well if u googled it you would know that historians all over the world counts finland as part of scandinavia because finland has been a part of sweden for over 100 years

  • @evilskills Well if you google it Finland has not been part of Sweden for 500 years and is not part of Scandinavia today.

  • @Narre5 You are from Sweden - and don't know anything about the history of your own country?

Finland was integral part of the Kingdom of Sweden from very early when it was being born - at least from early 1200's to 1809 - it makes some 600 years of common history (count it if you can) - and (only) 200 as separate entities after that.

After the split Finland continued as a autonomous Grand Duchy under the Czar of Russia until 1917 - and been independent since then. To be cont ...

  • @EneriGiilaan you are correct

  • @Narre5 then why do historians political scientists and other scientists say it is.

  • @Narre5 ... For ex Finish law system has a non breaking heritage from the laws of the Kingdom of Sweden. The administration has developed following closely to the Swedish development etc.

In reality Finland is in many ways much closer as a society to Sweden than e.g., Denmark is.

I agree that Nordic would be better word than Scandinavian for Finland - but if English speaking world see other factors more important than linguistics there is not much we can do about it - it is their language.

  • @Narre5 Well, we use to say we are part of scandinavia :P

  • @Narre5 I bet you know history well enough to know that finland was a part of sweden, so I quess people can asume finland is part of scandinavia, and not being wrong^-^

  • @JiiV3e Yeah of course people can assume Finland is a part of Scandinavia. I just wanted to tell them how it really was...

  • @Narre5 Check wikipedia, it pretty much says it is part of scandinavia and its not a part of scandinavia, worthless topic to argue:)

  • @Narre5 Well... There has always been discsussions about what is Scandinavia or not. However te most common belief is yours, but that also includes that Finland is part of Fenno-Scandinavia, which is the penninsula of Scandinavia. There is also belief that Iceland, Greenland and Finland is part of Scandinava in some combinations and such.

  • @john47882 yaa xD

  • @narutofreak12312312 justin what? u r a complete asshole

  • @narutofreak12312312 haha 69 thumbs up
