Anyone notice at 1:06 Eric Carmen has(d) a little Elvis goin' on? How cool, he definitely was very cool and talented........I love these old songs. Grew up on 'em.
I'm not so sure guys. I think it was played. The guitar fingers are perfect for the sound being heard from the instrument. Same with the drums from what I can see. Mike Douglass was taped live.
Interesting version of this song done live on the Mike Douglas Show in 1974---because this version is the band actually singing--but the aired version was lip-synced to the recorded version. I would think it would be easier to actually sing the song with all the facial expressions and emotions--then drown out the live singing with the recorded version. Anyone know if this is how it was done "back them"??
@minnabean33 The way this was done here was very common in the 60's, early 70's. Either it was totally 'mimed'.... or... the vocals would be done live against the original studio backtrack, like you see here. I've heard the main reason why this was done was so the sound wouldn't vary from the '45' that the record companies were trying to sell!! Also many shows were just not equipped for live music :)
@bze2nlz4 Yes, I grew up thru the 50's and 60's---I know they lip-synced on TV all the time and I knew why--I was just surprised to see the same video with their actual singing voices recorded.
Whoa!! I really love this song! Just recently I heard this song on the radio and I'll tell ya what, I had the volume cranked up, big time!! I knew you had great taste in music, Chris, but I didn't know you like these guys. Raspberries Rock!!! Thanks for posting this. This is a nice surprise.
Miss theses songs and the era

Anyone else notice how relatively short Eric would have been without standing on that cube! Don't get me wrong, I'm a fan!
