I agree Tom, merit pay is a bad idea. What you said is true, but the main reason I oppose merit pay is because teaching is a very political job. Teachers who suck up to the administration will be rewarded and teacher who are busy actually teaching and doing a good may not be rewarded.

In "working class" schools the administration is more interested in turning out well indoctrinated, christian, cannon fodder than they are teaching students to think for themselves.

You're spot on here Thom. If the Obama Administration wants to find out how to improve education...they need to go to the chalk face for advice.

Could teachers not getting payed as much have somthing to do with the fact that they have not produced that many results?
