@BrianWest58, point well taken. As I alluded to, it was another cyclist travelling close to me, not me, that called him an idiot. The reason he called the rider an idiot was that he showed up to the ride late going the same route as the ride itself, knowing full well that this would result in his riding into a veritable gauntlet of other cyclists. I agree that if there had been a crash resulting in injury, I don't think any court could have held him negligent, since he technically broke no law.
I did use quite a bit of draft a little farther into the ride. I am not a strong enough rider to go it very fast on my own for long. I was actually with one of the lead groups until about the 40 mile point, after that I found I couldn't really hang with any of the groups, so I rode mostly on my own after that. I think my problem is that when I train, I train alone, so I'm not used to drafting and it becomes psychologically tedious to me. I find the ride more enjoyable, if slower, when I'm alone.
Thanks. Although the RAIN isn't technically a race, its the only large organized cycling type event I've ever done, and I do try to do my best. I'm set to go onto Active Duty in the Army this Summer, so depending on when I get my orders, I may or may not be able to do it.

It's cool because I have the same road bike, but it has rubber tires that I'm yet to replace.

A Cyclist (or car) coming at you in the correct lane is not an idiot.
