Hey. Soo I recently have had my heart broken, and i for some reason instinctivly ran to the art store this morning and got a set of water color paints. I never have painted before. I've grown so inspired by your work. Thank you for posting! i tried this one, it didn't work out that well haha. This has opened a whole new perspective on color for me. I am a musician so the way i see and use colors is much different, but im stating to see they are really quite similar. Thank you again!!
@BeautynSuccess sounds like you're using the cheap and nasty stuff. Try using paper at least 140lb and you should enjoy some success. I personally use 130lb Fabriano from artdiscount . co . uk Very best of luck.
@dbguitar100 the no.1 problem generally seems to be too much water in the mix. Try using more paint and less water. I learned to paint trees watching Frank Clarke and his Simply Painting programme on DVD. Check him out at SimplyPainting . com
@liammokeefe I only started painting 5 years ago so it doesn't take a lifetime to get the hang of it. Obviously I've still got a lot to learn but keep practising and you will get there in the end. Happy painting!
So sorry, I should have read further to find out what brush you use. I really hope I can find one and practice using it so that I can get as good as you. Of course, that will take me years. Thanks for posting these demos. I love them!!!
@MichelleLee414 I bought my brush on eBay at a reasonable cost so that's the first place I would look. Keep practising and you will suceed. A painting a day and you'll be there sooner than you think. Thanks for watching and happy painting!
Thanks for this lovely demo and your explanation along with it, makes it so easy to understand your painting. Me a watercolor beginner and yes you have inspired me to pick up the brush and paint.
Also your replies to all the posts have helped me a lot . Thanks once again
@fabsmita I'm glad you have found the videos helpful and gained the inspiration to have a go with watercolours. If there are any questions then please don't hesitate to ask. Happy painting!
It was really amazing to find you on You Tube. The videos I've seen have given me an inspiration to keep on learning.... Well, I've noticed in previous comments that you were using the Ron Ranson Hake ( large one) .. but I wonder if there's any more details to help me find it ?
I've searched on Ebay but found brushes that seem quite different from the one in the video...
@1980carolita I'm glad the videos have inspired you to keep painting. The only Ron Ranson hakes I can see on eBay post only to the UK but I've found another site at artsupplies.co.uk/brushes-ron-ranson-hake-brush.htm that will post worldwide. I hope this helps you. Happy painting!
I am watching a lot of your demonstrations before I start trying to use watercolors, and I must say, they are quite educational. xD I do have a question though~
I notice how a number of people, including yourself, wet the paper before starting. What do you use? Just plain water? And what is the purpose of doing so?
@YrFaceMakesMeLaff Yes, I wet the paper first with plain water. There are 2 main reasons for doing so. Firstly, in order to get the clouds and distant hills and mountains to blend with no hard edges then the paper needs to be wet. Secondly, I'm using cheap paper which is only 130lb and wetting all over at the start allows the paper to stretch evenly so after a few minutes into the painting I can refix the right hand side and I'm left with an even surface. Hope this has helped you.
I think I would rather try painting your way first. You paint with a certain brush but I can never make out the name of it? I lived for years outside of Sunderland but never visited the Lake District so this will give me a little bit of home. thanks for sharing. The Scottish accent is more like the Geordie accent, nothing like a Liverpudlian.
@fabricatordee the main brush I use is a large Ron Ranson hake. You can get them on eBay fairly cheap. You can create some wonderful effects once you get the hang of it. The biggest problem for beginners is the sheer amount of water it holds but I remove the excess by wiping on a tea towel I always have in my other hand. If you like these sorts of scenes then you must visit the Lake District. It will take your breath away!

Love your work, and the loose stle you use.. I am trying to learn to paint and your videos will help i'm sure.. Thank you for taking the time to make and post these, keep up the good work!!
Dude your really good at this I wish I could paint like this. If I may suggest you should try putting some masking tape on the edges of the paper, in my opinion it makes the painting look better and it works great if your planning on mating it.
@1ElmoLeon1 Most of the time the paintings end up in mounts which hide the unsightly edges. I've never been told I sound like a Scouser before but I'll take it as a compliment! Thanks for watching.
As always it turned out great. I love the simplistic way you put on blobs of paint and it turns out looking like the sky or what ever you want it to be. I hope with experience I can get half as good as you.
