"classical" theorbo tuning in d.

strings: 6 x 652 mm / 8 x 1200 mm .

simple nylgut works quite satisfying.

7/7 stringing is also possible, as d-minor tuning, the sound is of a theorbo (not similar to an archlute of this length of the stopped strings!).

this instrument may be interesting for your younger students...

thank you ron,

the theorbo is similar to a french solo theorbo, it has it´s tuning. from the construction, it´s more a "smaller italian theorbo or chitarrone". the mensura of the stopped strings is shorter than from known french solo theorbos, however every string has the same diameter (at the same density and tension) at the corresponding position like at a big theorbo in g, yielding a fine sound balance at pitch of d, still a rare instrument.

The theorbo sounded nice, you really should try to do more with the continuo realization though.

The articulation in the cello sounded... forced... at times (and seemed to drag the tempo a little). The early Italian style was said to be bold, using a wide variety of articulations and expressive devises. Play with groupings and articulations, and put more boldness and decisiveness in differentiating the different sections.

A good performance all in all though, I did enjoy it.

you are right in all details.

however, it´s really funny, to mess a bloody beginner at the theorbo, playing the continuo and about 0,75 of one violin part and one of the best cello soloists, playing about 1,25 of the two violin parts of this virtuoso triosonata, ;-))) .

ok and the violinists may play faster than we...

even more crazy bergamascas will come soon...

Danke Thomas (fast zu viele Komplimente),

diese Version ist allerdings aus der Not entstanden, ein sehr leicht spielbares und motivierendes Übungsstück (für mich blutigen Anfänger auf der Theorbe) zu finden, was in der Originalliteratur nicht so einfach ist. Dank Uccellini´s genialen Ideen und wenn eine so verständnisvolle Solistin sich "unermüdlich opfert", scheint das nun zu funktionieren - und inzwischen noch viel besser, als bei diesem ersten Versuch ;-).

thank you, it´s also a compliment for the expierenced luthier, who created this masterpiece (almost without limits in developing time and budget, however, all non essential decoration was cancelled, and the limits focussed on the historical construction, the sound and the total weight of the instrument).

i wrote this version during one afternoon to have a motivating piece for exercising first steps on this instrument and it works ;-)).

now we play several improvistions and superpositions ("quodlibets") with Bergamascas of different authors having much fun with this stuff ;-))

vielleicht sehen/hören wir uns Anfang Oktober in Cottbus, falls wir dort eine Chance bekommen, ich hatte allerdings erst ein paar Lektionen auf der ganz neuen Theorbe...Eure Besetzung ist aber auch ganz interessant, insbesondere, wenn die Entfernung nicht groß wäre...

wir versuchen, auch im Tonstudio, mit viel Einsatz das Publikum zu erreichen, im live-Konzert sind solche Interaktionen natürlich viel einfacher und immer ein großer Spaß für uns.
