The way all 4 provincial assemblies agreed for president's impeachment leading to his banishment is a visible sign for Zardari's Anti Pakistan/Anti Islamic group to realize the value of their hypocrisy. Musharraf was condemned due to this attitude & Zardari represents the same school of thought. How can the politicians who already exiled a Hypocrite like Musharraf will accept another or rather bigger Hypocrite Zardari. It's the People's Party's biggest miconception and needs to be corrected.
bush borrows 10 billion dollars from china and gives it to musharoff, a millitary dictator, that overthrew an elected government and the USA invadeds iraq spreading democracy threw the barrel of a gun. the CIA,SIS and musharoff killed bhutto, not just arabs and muslims that dont like USA but now many nations dont like what USA stands for, and rightly so!
I am not saying that I necessarily disagree with what you are saying but I wonder how far you would go. Is it acceptable only to deter democracy or would you support a military coup against a democratically elected government hostile to the US. If so is this limited to the middle east or could the same be applied to Venezuela?
Depends on what you mean by deter. I am a strict non-interventionist. This would eliminate military deterrence of monetary support.
But if I saw a nation such as Saudi Arabia go purely democratic, I'd be shaking in my boots. With the bitter hostility and hatred that they have towards our values and our nation, this would be bad news.
Would I support democratic regimes at any and all costs? No. It depends on the conditions. But I remain militarily and monetarily neutral.
I don't want to deny democracy to other countries. I simply point out the obvious: Democracy in certain Muslim countries (as they stand now) results in leaders adhering to ideologies we are radically opposed to. This has been proven many times over.
Democracy in our country? Constitutionally, we are a republic. Regardless, we have the cultural and social institutions and values wherein a democracy is both safe and realistic.
I disagree. Democracy is not safe for your country. Look what they do to the world. I don't think your citizens should get a vote. It's clearly not working. We should cancel the election.
What they do to the world is not necessarily the fault of the people. Special interests, the military-industrial complex, and ideologues in power go to war for reasons quite foreign to the interests of most Americans. This is why they have to wrap it in lofty language of good vs. evil, freedom, liberty, etc.
Yes, it most certainly is. He has, on at least 5 different occasions, insisted upon democracy over unity or realism. Each and every time is has gone in the wrong direction.
Democracy is rooted in certain values and cultural institutions. Not every culture is currently fit for it. This is evident in the democratic elections of various countries in the middle east. To say otherwise is blind faith in Utopian ideology.
To be sure, Bush insisted that he wanted to set up a democratic government in Iraq. But ignored every single vote taking place in Iraq up until the point where there was a puppet leader in place, who was willing to bow to the US interests and allow permanent bases in Iraq, along with exclusive oil rights for American companies. Democracy my ass.
Agreed. Letting Iraqis vote in a purely democratic election would result in a demand that we leave. It would also put in power people who are far more Islamic than secular.
Agreed, with the exception that he wishes for a very bizarre form of neo-American democracy imposed upon people around the world, regardless of the lack of cultural conditions and societal institutions.

OK I thought that would be your position and I think it is defensible.

Would you give up your own countries democracy because you thought the outcome might not be good? No? Then you can't deny it to other countries.

I, too, think we need serious electoral reform.

You are blind if you really think that Bush's policy is "democracy first".

I know that Bush always SAYS "democracy democracy ra ra democracy". This is not reflected in any of his policies.
