Thanks for posting. As many times as I've heard this song it hadn't regiatered on me that Tom had written it. Also, it's great to see these two folk legends casually singing and talking together, instead of in a concert format.
In another era I hitched back and forth six times from West to East Coast. This song brings all that rambling back. Nothing like friendship in poverty.
I've loved this song since a first heard a "ramblin'" friend of mine sing it. Then later I heard Paxton and Seeger do it. My ramblin' pal is gone, but I still love this song and think of him everytime I hear it. Thanks Tom for writing it. You bring back many happy memories.
I love this song and have since it first came out back in the sixties. I had a pal like this and everytime I hear it I think of him. I know he's ramblin' somewhere. RIP my friend.
I really like the "Fare ye well" line better, as on The Weavers @ Carnegie 2 (and I also like the whole hall singing along on that version), but this is some serious roots. Awesome. Thanks!
WOW!!! I love this. I have never heard it before. Now that is pure talent the likes of which are rarely heard today. Thanks for posting this here for me to find today.
Having just seen "Pete Seeger: The Power of Song," I now understand why Tom Paxton has such a voice in it - and rightly so. I am very pleased to see so many of the "Rainbow Quest" performances have been preserved on this website. THANK YOU!
Many, many thanks for this (and all the other Rainbow Quest videos)!!! These great artists had the most important influence on my mental attitude I got in the 60/70/80s... All those songs tought me so much about humanity...
Famous rugby players Lote Tuqiri and Matt Giteau sing this song when on the bus on tour around the world.I taught it to them, and they love it. Its a great song. I met Tom in Aust years ago, and the first thing I asked him was about Pete!..it was a great concert, and singing Peace will come was just a fantastic experience...This is Ben Perkins speaking, currently Queenstown NZ
Wow! I was ten at the time that aired. What a great show. Long before the execs figured out how to look slick and take the soul out of performances. Thanks so much for the posting.
Two of the best troubadours we have ever seen. Genuine, honest men with a simple message of hope. Tom is still touring in 2008, but Pete is too old now. Brilliant.
What a great song. I love Pete Seeger"s comment at the end "You're gonna have to write some awfully good songs in your life to come up with a better one than that"
Thanks for posting this! I didn't really know who Tom Paxton was before hearing Kate Wolf's cover of "Hold On to Me Babe" and I will probably start buying his music!
Dad played this on the stereo when I was ten and I was caught by the tune & the sad story, tho could never figure out what 'blin-bring' meant. Watched it yesterday with dad (83) and sister (51) and we all sang our hearts out.
But why is Seeger so much more enthusiastic and friendly towards Paxton than Judy Collins? Is it because both are songwriters and he obviously embraces Tom's songs?
Wow! This is GREAT! Thanks for posting! I'm a HUGE Pete Seeger AND Tom Paxton fan and have seen them both perform a bunch of times. I've also had the extreme pleasure of meeting them both, too!
Recorded before Tom had developed the magical stage presence I saw him display on many occasions. Nice harmonies from two giants of the sixties folk scene.
Love this song and liked Pete Seeger too but Paxton is the man then and now. If you are out there Tom I still love your music as much as I did seeing you in Chicago in 1966.
It was great to see Paxton & Seeger singing this great song! It brings back memories for me. I remember when I wanted to learn to play this song when I was about 17 years old. It's nice to see them interacting on a casual basis discussing songwriting! Thanks for posting this remarkable video!
I remember my dad playing this song when I was a little girl. Tom also had another song I liked about Daddy's Taking Us to the Zoo or something along those lines.
This is the correct version of this song from 1960... Thanks for the memories!
