Very fun Timelapse! :) this really made me laugh. It's like the end of the world and eveyone just fly off on their balloons lol :)

I wonder how they steer the balloon left and right... Can someone explain :)

This is an awesome video. I've been ballooning for almost 25 years now and I've never seen the sport depicted this way before. It puts a whole new perspective on it!

-2009 was not one of the better years for the balloon fiesta, which is why i say that. some of the special shapes balloons were stranded in china, and the weather wasn't as entertaining as it is during other years

It was too windy most days for the dawn patrol and night glow. More special shapes would have been nice. We don't have plans for going back.

@TimeLapseHD There's a good amount of internal politics going on regarding special shapes and such. One of my friends flies a balloon and he was saying that the organizers of the fiesta are basically trying to create some form of corporate entity surrounding the whole thing with rigid scheduling. So people are getting annoyed since they just want to fly. I concur, last years wasn't that great. Though I live in Albuquerque so I get to see it more often than most I guess.

Wow! So many thoughts! Memories of Double Eagle II (rest in peace), breakfast burritos and chilly mornings, great footage of Albuquerque and the Sandias, imagining if this was realtime video (what a hoot that would be!), HD is pretty but didn't work as well, the hand-holding bee balloon was hilarious, does the cow balloon ever make it off the ground,... and thanks to timelapsehd. Good job!

Does your DSLR have a Time Lapse facility or is it done post-production?

We used 3 Nikon D300 and a D700 which have built in intervelometers. The cameras take the still pictures and then they are made into videos in post.

Thanks for posting the nice comments! Im glad everyone seems to be enjoying the video. This was our first time at the Balloon Fiesta. Lots of very early mornings shooting this but to see all those balloons taking off and the awesome breakfast burritos made the predawn routine worth while. At times we had 4 DSLR cameras clicking away simultaneously. Fun trip and good food, cant beat that!

I got to ride for $375 US. It would have been during a mass ascension, but my first balloon was strafed by another and put a 3 foot tear in it. Unfortunately they had to reschedule me for another day.
