Why is it that Crohn's and Tay-sachs disease disprortionately affect Jews? Can you get a disease from belonging to a religion. It would take more space than is available here, but people who claim Judaism is a religion with no ethnic component are either dumb or deliberately obfuscating. Which is the case with you?
We're now out of the era where saying "Bush sucks" in public will win you instant acclaim and fortune, but there is still a market for that sort of thing among angry little shitsucking midgets.
there weren't many comedians having balls to make fun of bush 4 months after 9/11? you've got to be kidding me, did you hear the crowd, plus half the country didn't vote for him in the first place. this was funny but don't suck dick just because you think he is the edgiest comedian ever
Wow... a YouTube Comment Fight. Awesome! I do have to say I've never considered the mathematical joke theorem to break down the science of funny joke structure. I prefer a more visceral approach to funny. If it makes me laugh, it's funny. This bit, while not one of David Cross' better bits was certainly chuckle-worthy, and that's good enough for me. But please, do continue. I believe the starchmonkey is up next.
@PrometheuStoned No, I think you pretty much finished this for me :)
It's not a "fight" per say, just a friendly argument. A fight would involve the tossing of "faggot" around. Anyway, I agree. All of this is subjective. There is no "scientific breakdown". Just like there is no superior form of musical tastes, there is no superior form of comedy. I like political humour and David Cross does a good job at it even if he is just "talking about Bush".
Yes, this is a friendly argument but yes there is a superior form of musical and comedic tastes. The Beatles are better than Olivia Newton John & if you disagree, you're flat out wrong about music. There is a level of analysis that you apply when you are creating a work of art that is extremely critical about the work should be put together. That criticism is simply lacking in this piece by cross. If you want to hear anti-war rants with jokes listen to Jamie Kilstein. Much better.
That's just not true. While George Carlin was certainly a political & social commentator, he was always a comic first. He didn't just stand on stage and bitch with a sarcastic tone in his voice. He would say something, then he would say something funny supporting his statement. Carlin also wrote much more clever jokes than this. Cross doesn't really make a joke until 3rd place in the special olympics and even that isn't clever.
@MalachorWraith Have you seen Carlin's bit on the environment? He presents in a comical manner, but there really are no jokes or punchlines. Not a bad thing, but its very similar to Cross' style.
Well a couple of different points to make on that. I'm not saying no comics ever do this, I'm saying Cross mostly does this and this isn't funny. Secondly, I'd have to hear the Carlin bit to really judge it for myself. Also, its completely possible that his environment bit isn't funny. Even the greatest comics do bits that work with crowds but aren't actually funny. Track 6 on Bill Hick's Arizona Bay disc while interesting isn't particularly funny. The rest of his disc is though.
who fucking cares? are comics not allowed to speak of social and political commentary unless theres a conveniently packaged "insERt FunNy puNcHLiNe" at the end? does that lessen their message?
If you're on a talk show or a radio show like Bill Maher or The Dailyshow, your discussion of the issues does not necessarily have to be funny. However, stand up comedy means being funny. I'm sorry if that's too limiting to you but if you're a comic, you're supposed to be funny. Henry Rollins puts together better jokes on these subjects than Cross & even he doesn't call what he does stand up, he calls it spoken word. There is a big difference in how it should be judged.
Motherfucker comedy is my life. I just got done attending the first of three shows this fucking week that I am responsible for or I'm performing at. Go somewhere else if you can't have a serious critical analysis of comedy, I'm sorry if I can't suck every alternative comic's nuts and muffle the words "Bill Hicks" every time they say something about war being bad. Fuck you for not having the balls to criticize what is clearly crowd pandering with shit jokes.
THIS is what stand up comedy should fucking be. I watch old videos of Bill Hicks and I used to think ''Wow it's a shame there's no comic around like this now'' But I was wrong, Cross is the modern equivelant and long may he live.
The truth is Bush was a living breathing joke and David was just using the pathetic, brutal moron as a way to spread the truth to all the gullible dopes who thought Bush was a good president.
Woooooooooo! We yell and laugh at things we agree with! Please say things with a mildly sarcastic tone while pretending you have punchlines! Who needs an understanding of basic joke structure when you can bitch about things while talking like a Mall-bound valley girl? You know, so ummm like you know ummm I mean you know.
@MalachorWraith Did you also complain about Bill Hick's lack of understanding of a "basic joke structure"? If you want feedline & punchline jokes all night there are plenty of comedians out there.
Nope, Bill knew what he was doing as he set up clever premises and pointed out unique hypocrisies in America. Arizona Bay is in my disc player. The stealth banana, g13, Dinosaurs in the Bible, everything involving the Kennedy assassination, etc the man knew how to tell a joke. I will however say that track 6 "Elephant is dead" isn't particularly funny. Yes, even comedy geniuses are occasionally not funny. Cross isn't close to genius however.
@MalachorWraith You can argue that he isn't a comedic genius but arguing about how funny he is, something that's entirely subjective, is such a complete and utter waste of time. He definitely knows how to tell jokes in the classic sense, it's comedy 101.
Actually yes I can. Whether or not you think Richard Pryor is funnier than George Carlin is subjective. Whether you like the Beatles or The Stones is subjective. But the Beatles are better than the Jonas Brothers and anyone who says otherwise is wrong. I own "Shut up you fucking baby" and I regret buying it. There is a difference between stating something with a sarcastic tone and telling a joke. He just spends all his time bitching.
@MalachorWraith The last sentence is rather ironic given the fact you searched for David Cross videos on youtube just so you could attempt to slam his style of comedy. If you're that disappointed with your purchase I suggest you sell the CD, stop listening to him and stop searching for his videos.
The fact that you, personally, do not enjoy his style of humour is irrelevant to me, Cross and every single one of his fans. Have fun trying to argue an impossible point though.
Actually, I legitimately look for funny stand up that he's done just so I can be wrong. Like I said, I bought his CD because I thought he was funny initially from Mr. Show and Arrested Development series. Then I bought his CD and I am angry at the fact that he puts such little effort into his comedy. Real hard working comics care about their audience enough to carefully prepare their material into insightful witty jokes. Cross is arrogant in his stand up which is sad.
On another note, this is youtube and as part of this internet community I get to criticize things I don't like. If nobody said "you suck" saying "you're awesome" would be meaningless. David Cross isn't performing stand up on this track, he's making bland statements that Jon Stewart already made without the punchlines. Genius pills is weak shit. Pudding cups is weak shit. Stumpy is weak shit. Bush doing Shooters is weak shit. Didactic preachy non comedy.
@MalachorWraith Well, youtube and the internet isn't a separate reality from the outside world, David Cross gets to criticise things he doesn't like also. You said you already own the CD this excerpt is taken from so I don't know why you'd expect something different in this clip.
I couldn't care less how much effort he puts into his comedy, it's the outcome that I'm listening to. I liked Hicks because he mixed comedy with politics, I like Cross for the same reason. If you don't, don't listen.
You should care how much effort he puts into his comedy, he's a comedian. The main problem is that David Cross is a thinking man but that he hasn't taken the same critical eye he applies to Bush to his own comedy act. I don't know why he feels ok putting out such a piss poor performance but he should be aware of it. Especially when he's surrounded by brilliant friends for comedians. The difference between Patton Oswalt & Cross's Bush bits is night and day. Patton is funny, not DC.
@MalachorWraith And yet I've listened to a lot of Oswalt, Stanhope & Black and I still prefer David Cross to all of them. Subjectivity my friend, this argument is going no where.
Regarding effort - I do not care how much effort goes into something at all, it's the end result. The same applies to my music taste.
Well, you're wrong. Not opinion wise, not subjectively, I mean that I can take his jokes and put them on a graph and break down why he is less funny than the people you just mentioned. Oswalt riffs on the absurd and blends nerd culture into political critiques for unique rants you find with nobody else. Stanhope is dark and creatively dirty with a strong political tone that he hones with his anger. Black is a crafty veteran who knows how to put together a metaphor properly.
@MalachorWraith Did I suggest that Cross was a better comedian than any of those 3? How on earth could I be wrong for preferring Cross? I don't care if Cross "bombs" on chat shows and I don't care if he doesn't put every last ounce of his consciousness into his standup routines, I like every album I have of his, period.
You could plot all the graphs you like, the fact remains that it would be a monumental waste of time because "funny" is still entirely subjective.
You can be wrong the same way someone who likes the Jonas brothers is wrong, you are attuned to an inferior product produced by inferior craftsmanship. I'm not saying Cross is never funny, I'm saying he's heavily inconsistent and goes on long bitchfests that don't involve punchlines. His jokes are sloppily thrown together at his best and nonexistent at his worst. You can't just state your opinion with a sarcastic tone and list facts and call that comedy. You must do more.
@MalachorWraith And the award for the most pretentious retard on youtube goes to..
Take your misplaced elitism somewhere else, it's so fucking embarrassing to read. Maybe make another one of your atheist videos, your last one covered a lot of fresh new ground.
Wait wait wait, I'm getting accused of being pretentious by a David Cross fan. That's like Bob Dylan telling me I need to stop slurring my words. I'm sorry that you're willing to lap up the pig trough of generic left wing criticisms that he angrily vomits from the stage with the misconception that they are somehow special or unique.
@MalachorWraith Work on your analogies, every single one you've tried has completely failed. You can't be much of a Hicks fan if you're accusing Cross of being pretentious, he regularly insulted his audience and spoke ON STAGE about hating pretty much everybody in the world. Didn't he indiscriminately tell everybody working in marketing to kill themselves?
The imagery in your post was hilarious though, you must be a real blast to get on with. Make more assumptions, it makes you look cool.
You can disagree with me but the analogies are spot on, unless you think that the Jonas brothers exist on a plane free of judgment when compared with The Rolling Stones. On Hicks, his marketing statement was part of a bit. He made the statement to construct a joke. A premise was being built, Cross just says things with a sarcastic tone and assumes that we should laugh at it because he thinks its funny.
Just because you agree with someone's ideas doesn't mean their art isn't shit
@MalachorWraith That's his shtick dumbass. Hicks had a shtick, everyone has it in the biz. It's just their unique form of expression. If you don't find it funny, then you don't, but don't state your opinion like it's an objective fact. That IS pretentious whatever you may think Cross fans are, it doesn't change the fact that you're acting like a pretentious twit at the moment.
I'm sorry but there is such a thing as an inferior piece of art. While there is a level of subjectivity in the subtle nuances between different pieces, there are clear and definite examples of superior over inferior works. I listened to "Shut up you fucking Baby" and the two discs his act is painfully dragged across and it is a clear example of an inferior work. Making statements is not making comedy.
@MalachorWraith Yes...when you base that on an objective analysis, which you have failed to do.
Your critique of that is extremely vague, "Dragged on" is vague and not backed up by evidence such as specific examples. Also, why does "dragging on" make this comedy cd bad or "inferior?" And to what exactly?
You know what, gimme a day or two to collect specific clips and I'll pick apart exactly why its not funny in a personal message. Just a starter, I'm listening to "Lunch with Frankenstein" and so far, I've counted three jokes over the first five minutes of an eleven minute track. The rest of it is just him complaining. Only punchlines - "if I was sucking his cock at the time", "Let's call it southern baptist", and "It stays whiter later". The rest is just complaining.
@MalachorWraith You don't know shit about Comedy. This was voted one of the best comedy albums of all time, right behind Bill Hicks' final comedy album.
What do you want me to say? Top ten lists don't mean shit. You put those two discs in front of any person who isn't familiar with Cross and between some light laughter you're going to get long spans of "who gives a fuck" whether or not they dislike Bush.
Nope, I listen to comedy. I'm a comic. I consume and analyze this stuff all day. Saying things with a sarcastic voice is not setting up a joke. This material is the lazy. You don't just show up and say your opinion and call that a joke. Hicks told jokes. His jokes were complicated depictions of the decaying society that he witnesses collapsing around him, but Hicks still told jokes. 3rd place in the special olympics is a lazy fucking joke.
No, strictly objective. I view him independently from his stand up comedy from his sketch comedy and comedic acting. Mr. Show and Arrested Development are funny separately from how not funny this is. Genius pills? Are you fucking kidding me?
@MalachorWraith No, strictly subjective. You call yourself a comic yet I've never heard of you so really nobody should give a shit what you think. You're just an average comedian who probably tells jokes with punchlines one after the other. At least this stuff is intellectually stimulating and David Cross can talk about a topic for 7 minutes straight without going stale. And I'm not wrong; hear the audience laughing in the background?
Oh right, an audience laughing is 100% accurate to whether or not an audience is truly being intellectually stimulated. Lord knows Larry the Cable guy and Carlos Mencia have been mentally stimulating people for years, right. I mean people don't just show up to see Nickelback because they're terrible, right? I don't have to defend myself as a comic the same way musicians don't have to defend themselves for saying Nickelback sucks. The material he does is lazy.
NO! It's objective. His set, opinion, exaggerated opinion, sarcastic statement, overuse of profanity, opinion, opinion, bad metaphor, opinion, opinion, opinion, barely passable joke about Bush not winning the election, opinion, joke, 3rd place in the special olympics is not a clever joke, preachy voice joke, genius pills is not a clever joke, passable joke, opinion, opinion, repeating previous opinions, poorly setup but decent bit involving pudding cups, opinion, That's up to 5:45
@MalachorWraith Objectivity requires a proposition that is generally considered to be objectively true when its truth conditions are "mind-independent"—that is, not the result of any judgements made by a conscious entity or subject. Subjectivity may refer to the specific discerning interpretations of any aspect of experiences. They are unique to the person experiencing them. You're experiencing Subjectivity.
Objectivity is a matter of applying a universal independent standard that goes beyond one's personal taste. While criticizing art is a more subjective subject, it can be done objectively. When you compare this set to any other successful comic, it shows how wildly lackluster his ideas and statements are. You can mathematically pick apart why a George Carlin or Richard Pryor bit is funny. It's not a subjective thing, They are scientifically funny. This stand up isn't.
@MalachorWraith Wow, pick up an Oxford dictionary, that is not the definition of objectivity at all: observable phenonmena and uninfluenced by emotions of prejudice. You clearly have an agenda.
an impartial, unbiased attitude, and avoidance of any conflict of interest. When you compare the joke structure of his to other comics REGARDLESS OF MATERIAL it becomes very clear that his stand up comedy is poorly written and haphazardly put together. The fact that David Cross is talking about Bush doesn't make him edgy or funny, it just means he's talking about Bush. You still have to make an effort to put together a punchline beyond bitching.
Look up the Artie Lange story on here and then download the Howard Stern interview with David Cross. When you put him in front of an audience that doesn't just lap up his lazy jokes, he bombs miserably. It's one thing to have a specialized audience, it's another to have such poor timing that you can't go anywhere outside of your crowd and consistently make people laugh. It's not like he's Kaufman or Hicks, he's not soaring over anyone's head with his material.
@MalachorWraith Specialized audience? You mean people that agree with his view? Besides newcomers, aren't most audiences specialized to the comic they came to see. Larry the Cable Guy? And you want to bring up Hicks in contrast? Have you not heard all his jokes about bombing in the South? Does that make them invalid. And Artie Lange is a big crybaby; yeah Cross was a dick, get over it. If you hate Cross that much, stop going on his videos and commenting. Stick to Artie Lange who'll give you
@MalachorWraith Specialized audience? Unless it's a new comic or the audience members are newcomers, are the audiences not fans(meaning they agree with the content) specialized to that comic? Larry the Cable Guy? And have you not listened to the countless times that Hicks bombed in the South? Were his jokes invalid then? You just seem to be a Cross troll. Just go watch some Artie Lange videos, he'll give you the fart jokes you're looking for, back to back to back, no intelligence required.

Oh for fuck's sake quadruple post man, I'm well aware of Hicks bombing in places where people didn't understand his jokes. The difference is that Hicks was ahead of his time whereas Cross speaks like a valley girl on stage with all of his "umm, like, you know?"s and gets heckled because he can't maintain an audience's attention with his unfunny unclever jokes. His premises "gay people talk funny" and "rednecks are stupid" run thin fast - ps Larry the Cable Guy does those jokes too.
@MalachorWraith Oh my god...Bill Hicks fans are fucking annoying...
I love BIll Hicks, I have his picture as my screensaver, but I can't help but see the obvious fact that most Hicks fans are lunatics.
David Cross is hilarious, speaks the truth, so what's the big deal? I'm sure if Hicks knew him today, he wouldn't see Cross with the same eyes that you do. Hicks would relish this shit.
I don't think you can separate the fact that just because you have an opinion about something that you are correct about and well versed in does not make a rant about that subject humorous. I agree with most of the things that Cross says, that doesn't make them clever, unique, or remotely humorous ie he's not a funny comic. I expect more from my comedy. If you want to be Rachel Maddow, that's fine and there's nothing wrong with that but don't call yourself a comic.

Obvious now that not only will Obama go down as the worst President, but Sarah Palin makes Obama look like an imbecile. That is why stupid should not be allowed to vote! Obama blaming Bush for our economy??? YouTube people! Watch how the Democrats said nothing was wrong with the housing market and it collapsed causing everything else to default! It is all on YouTube!
As much as I can't stand David Cross' stand up, you couldn't be more wrong about anything ever. Dislike Obama as much as you want, the guy has the brains and intellect to run the country even if its not in the direction you like. Sarah Palin and all of the tea party candidates are fucking jokes. Yes, the democrats and the republicans are the spawn of satan's nutsack but for fuck's sake, yes Bush burnt through a record surplus and created a record deficit.
@owenaddams sarah palin makes obama look like an imbecile? you're telling me a beauty pageant queen who went to 3 different undergrads just for 1 degree is smarter than someone who taught constitutional law at one of the top 5 law schools in the nation for over a decade. please tell me why the bush tax cuts for the wealthy need to be extended. we've had them for nearly a decade and they still haven't trickled down. where are the jobs the cuts were supposed to create? oh yeah, in india...
@lethargistic I wouldn't say he's doing a bad job or an amazing job. He hasn't really done all that much. I think he'll be reelected and bigger changes will be in his second term. Only time can tell though...
@lethargistic wat u on bout hes not a bad president? hes lied about everything he said he'd do during his campaign and hes just basically carried on Bushes Policies... hes just as bad
And it doesn't matter anyway what president gets elected, its blatantly obvious that there just puppets who are pushing for the one world GOVT agenda there owners want
if we had h2o and electric for free, if the fake "fed" bank wasn't robbing this country for 100 yeas we'd all be so rich and we would be helping other countries by being honest business folks in a competitive market, insted of leaving all the opertunity to chains like walmart and nike and coke and mcdonalds all owned by a few while we all are in other chains owned by the same few. and china is owned by a few in the perfect sence, one we are going to be made to emulate, supposedly.
so why wasn't bush impeeched? could it be america is asleep and bedazzled? wake up the world yall. get your religions and nations back. it's not impossible, thats one good truth on our side.
Obama is spending money on job creation and things we need, Bush spent massive amounts of money that didn't go to job creation. He just spent fucking money to bribe old people to vote for him.
We pretty much have to finish this mess in the middle east now, to tell you the truth I never really was against the war. I was just against the needless amount of wasting that was involved.
I seriously fucking doubt that. The worst president is Obama? Are you that stupid? List facts. Let's hear how he's the worst president ever. Granted, I'm disappointed, but worst ever?
You give these politicians too much credit. After all, if the welfare of our environment, the violent crime rates, and worldwide poverty mattered to them in anyway at all, we would be exploring alternative energy to it's fullest, every car would be zero emission, global fishing would decrease, and studies to understand the "criminal mind" would be conducted, rather than dicking around with gay marriage rights and abortion.
Yea it really pisses me off that people are so pissed about whether or not certain people should have certain freedoms.
It's none of their business if gay people get married, it literally has no negative effect on society. If anything it has a positive effect as 3% of our population will have more of an ability to pursue happiness in their lives.
If the entire planet could get over closed-minded nationalistic views and see that the main problems in our world are ecological and environmental--not economical (money is not a natural resource. It does nothing) then we could take steps in restoring the environment. That's what I'd like to see. Not some bullshit economic stimulus or bailout plan.
I think it's an instinct of our species to hoard what we consider valuable. If money wasn't gold, we'd hoard food, or tools or something.
Then of course we need a leader to regulate this and how would he do it? Who would get it?
That's how capitalism came to be in the first place. I believe there are many flaws in this system as its only purpose is to gain capital through productivity.
Maybe you won't be open to it right away, but you should look into the ideals of the Venus Project. Even if you don't agree with it, you can definitely learn something from it.
Look your ideas are great, but people are selfish and self serving.
Add our western ideals of individualism and personal responsibility and you have even more self preservation. I doubt much will change within 100 years.
Let's not be so hasty in our judgments. At the rate of this recession, the entire economic structure is already circling the drain, the people are just denying it.
It doesn't take much more than a holistic financial collapse to lose faith in the system and start searching for alternative modes of governance.
Well before the market, the economy used to collapse even quicker that what we see today. Capitalism is not a stable system. I think this collapse as well as the one in the 80s had a lot to do with all the deregulation that occurred in the late 70s and 80s. I mean we had at least 50 years of fairly smooth economics (if we didn't have all the unnecessary wars that were fought, our economy would have been overflowing.)
I think the biggest problem with poor people, is that they're NOT paid enough to maintain any sort of decent life style. Good food costs more than cheap, fatty foods, so it's actually cheaper to be unhealthy.
I mean are you telling me Dunkin Donuts can't pay their workers more than what they pay them? It's just such a crock of bull, another problem with capitalism is that money is not distributed fairy by corporations.
The Venus Project designed and conceived by Jacque Fresco (now 93 years old) is actually a societal system designed for improving the lives of everybody by (I know it sounds crazy but) eliminating the monetary system in it's entirety. It's amazing when you take a step back and realize how much more damage money does to us than good.
Seriously, I recommend you watch Zeitgeist: Addendum.
Perhaps, I've been getting quite a few recommendations to watch this film. Now I have to see what's it's all about.
There have been times when man didn't have any amount of currency, and I don't believe it made them any less greedy or self serving, unless we're talking about tribal societies. I think that works well on a very small level. I can definitely see us going through a major transition in the next century or two though.
Well people who work at Duncan Donuts and McDonalds, etc. should be paid minimum wage. Those types of jobs were never meant to support families. Their jobs are easy. There's a reason doctors and lawyers get paid so much. It's because they bust their asses in school and their jobs are difficult, you fucking moron.
@modteeth Easy?? You have to deal with the SHITTIEST fucking people, clean, make food, etc..
They're not easy, not at all.
Minimum wage is not even enough to support yourself! Does that sound fair? Minimum wage should be enough to buy groceries and pay apartment bills, plain and simple.
And really?? Because they do. many people lost well paying jobs and were forced into jobs like McDonalds and Dunkin Donuts. Why are they not compensated for?
@modteeth yeah dude those jobs aren't easy. Sure those other guys are being paid for their education, but most all jobs are essential, none more so than another. Dumbshits who tripped through college cause their parents paid for it, and now are in supervisory positions makin $60k a year, are no more essential than the guy who farms your food or cleans your house. Minimum wage needs to be a living wage. pure and simple.
@modteeth you never responded to the point. Those educated people lost high paying jobs and have no choice but to work fast food. i have 2 BA degrees and i am working fast food now and I am actually medically forbidden from physical labor due to bone issues. I am one step away from the hospital and an amputation.
The only way Obama will end up being the worst president ever would be if he ran into a country with the military, bombed them, privatized their oil companies and essentially rob that set group of people of what little wealth they have left. Oh wait, that's right...hahaha that's already been done.
Let me correct you. Every politician immediately breaks his promises to the American people, they invariably keep their promises to the banksters and israel.
For the record I was relieved that McCain didn't get close to the big red button. That insane bastard would have nuked Iran before his innauguration was over.
I do think we are heading toward a more socialistic way of life, I think Marx was actually quite a prophetic guy, except I think the fact that western society is doing it gradually as they go along is a good thing. It doesn't seem to work if countries force it.
I think you're heavily over exaggerating, do you know what's even in the stimulus bill? Do you know that the "bail out" is really just a loan? The money we gave to those companies is going to be paid back, probably with taxing.
At every stage of a production an item is taxed. The "retail price" of an item or service hides multiple instances of taxation, which are passed along to the consumer. The government makes more money on a product than anyone else in the supply chain.
Inflation is a hidden tax. The government prints (borrows from the "federal" reserve bank) and "loans" (gives) it to Wall Street banksters. Now there is more money in circulation (inflation) and the taxpayers are on the hook for the extra federal debt, to be recouped by taxs in one form or another. Meanwhile the already rich banksters (who bribed the politicians in the first place) get even more money for themselves while the poor, middle class, and formerly affluent get poorer.
Tax payers are now, but when these bankers are going to have to start paying them bank, hopefully they won't be anymore.
For the record I didn't particularly agree with the bailout, I really just wanted most of these companies to fail. Did we really need to give Ford anything? They're cars are practically falling apart. I certainly don't want to buy a crappy American car. We make faulty, cheap products in America because we want more money for less.
Yes they pay "a lot" in comparison to what they make. I mean every dime is a lot when you're poor, I've been there I know what I'm talking about.
The one problem with taxes would be something like gas because it's the same for everyone. I think that's where the poor and middle class suffer the most.
Oil is also massively expensive, if you have to heat your house with that.
Isn't it fucking hilarious how all of those "unpatriotic" leftie Bush haters turned out to be right? Haha, its so funny, watching my country go down the drain.
@eirefrance I don't think it is funny to see us go down the drain, but i get what you mean. The government knew it and now the oblivious pay for it, what are you going to do? it sucks.
Yeah? Whatever turns you the fuck on....it's great for them as long as they stay the hell away from me and mine, cause if not.....it won't be too fuckin grat when i'm done with them :)

Wow... a YouTube Comment Fight.
PrometheuStoned 11 months ago
@PrometheuStoned No, I think you pretty much finished this for me :)
It's not a "fight" per say, just a friendly argument. A fight would involve the tossing of "faggot" around. Anyway, I agree. All of this is subjective. There is no "scientific breakdown". Just like there is no superior form of musical tastes, there is no superior form of comedy. I like political humour and David Cross does a good job at it even if he is just "talking about Bush".
starchmonkey 11 months ago
@starchmonkey
MalachorWraith 11 months ago
@MalachorWraith What's your opinion on George Carlin? Much of his style is like David Cross; just talking.
starchmonkey 11 months ago
@starchmonkey
MalachorWraith 11 months ago
@MalachorWraith Have you seen Carlin's bit on the environment? He presents in a comical manner, but there really are no jokes or punchlines. Not a bad thing, but its very similar to Cross' style.
starchmonkey 11 months ago
@starchmonkey
MalachorWraith 11 months ago
@MalachorWraith
who fucking cares? are comics not allowed to speak of social and political commentary unless theres a conveniently packaged "insERt FunNy puNcHLiNe" at the end? does that lessen their message?
chewbaccapoopy 9 months ago
@chewbaccapoopy

Woooooooooo! We yell and laugh at things we agree with! Please say things with a mildly sarcastic tone while pretending you have punchlines! MalachorWraith 1 year ago
@MalachorWraith Did you also complain about Bill Hick's lack of understanding of a "basic joke structure"? If you want feedline & punchline jokes all night there are plenty of comedians out there.
Aardvarked88 1 year ago
@Aardvarked88
MalachorWraith 1 year ago
@MalachorWraith You can argue that he isn't a comedic genius but arguing about how funny he is, something that's entirely subjective, is such a complete and utter waste of time. He definitely knows how to tell jokes in the classic sense, it's comedy 101.
Aardvarked88 1 year ago
@Aardvarked88
MalachorWraith 1 year ago
@MalachorWraith The last sentence is rather ironic given the fact you searched for David Cross videos on youtube just so you could attempt to slam his style of comedy. If you're that disappointed with your purchase I suggest you sell the CD, stop listening to him and stop searching for his videos.
The fact that you, personally, do not enjoy his style of humour is irrelevant to me, Cross and every single one of his fans. Have fun trying to argue an impossible point though.
Aardvarked88 1 year ago
@Aardvarked88
MalachorWraith 1 year ago
@Aardvarked88
MalachorWraith 1 year ago
@MalachorWraith Well, youtube and the internet isn't a separate reality from the outside world, David Cross gets to criticise things he doesn't like also. You said you already own the CD this excerpt is taken from so I don't know why you'd expect something different in this clip.
I couldn't care less how much effort he puts into his comedy, it's the outcome that I'm listening to. I liked Hicks because he mixed comedy with politics, I like Cross for the same reason. If you don't, don't listen.
Aardvarked88 1 year ago
@Aardvarked88
MalachorWraith 1 year ago
@MalachorWraith And yet I've listened to a lot of Oswalt, Stanhope & Black and I still prefer David Cross to all of them. Subjectivity my friend, this argument is going no where.
Regarding effort - I do not care how much effort goes into something at all, it's the end result. The same applies to my music taste.
Aardvarked88 1 year ago
@Aardvarked88
MalachorWraith 1 year ago
@MalachorWraith Did I suggest that Cross was a better comedian than any of those 3? How on earth could I be wrong for preferring Cross? I don't care if Cross "bombs" on chat shows and I don't care if he doesn't put every last ounce of his consciousness into his standup routines, I like every album I have of his, period.
You could plot all the graphs you like, the fact remains that it would be a monumental waste of time because "funny" is still entirely subjective.
Aardvarked88 1 year ago
@Aardvarked88

I'm sorry that you're willing to lap up the pig trough of generic left wing criticisms that he angrily vomits from the stage with the misconception that they are somehow special or unique.
MalachorWraith 1 year ago
@MalachorWraith Work on your analogies, every single one you've tried has completely failed. You can't be much of a Hicks fan if you're accusing Cross of being pretentious, he regularly insulted his audience and spoke ON STAGE about hating pretty much everybody in the world. Didn't he indiscriminately tell everybody working in marketing to kill themselves?
The imagery in your post was hilarious though, you must be a real blast to get on with. Make more assumptions, it makes you look cool.
Aardvarked88 1 year ago
@Aardvarked88
MalachorWraith 1 year ago
@MalachorWraith They're not really...you just THINK they're spot on. If you want to actually get into detailed analysis here, I'll wait.
Sshelly34213 1 year ago
@MalachorWraith That's his shtick dumbass. Hicks had a shtick, everyone has it in the biz. It's just their unique form of expression. If you don't find it funny, then you don't, but don't state your opinion like it's an objective fact. That IS pretentious whatever you may think Cross fans are, it doesn't change the fact that you're acting like a pretentious twit at the moment.
Sshelly34213 1 year ago
@Sshelly34213
MalachorWraith 1 year ago
@MalachorWraith Yes...when you base that on an objective analysis, which you have failed to do.
Your critique of that is extremely vague, "Dragged on" is vague and not backed up by evidence such as specific examples. Also, why does "dragging on" make this comedy cd bad or "inferior?" And to what exactly?
Sshelly34213 1 year ago
@Sshelly34213

@starchmonkey
MalachorWraith 1 year ago
@MalachorWraith Subjective.
starchmonkey 1 year ago
@starchmonkey
No, strictly objective. I view him independently from his stand up comedy from his sketch comedy and comedic acting. Mr. Show and Arrested Development are funny separately from how not funny this is. Genius pills? Are you fucking kidding me?
MalachorWraith 1 year ago
@MalachorWraith No, strictly subjective. You call yourself a comic yet I've never heard of you so really nobody should give a shit what you think. You're just an average comedian who probably tells jokes with punchlines one after the other. At least this stuff is intellectually stimulating and David Cross can talk about a topic for 7 minutes straight without going stale. And I'm not wrong; hear the audience laughing in the background?
starchmonkey 11 months ago
@starchmonkey
MalachorWraith 11 months ago
@MalachorWraith Subjective. Lol.
starchmonkey 11 months ago
@starchmonkey
NO! It's objective. His set, opinion, exaggerated opinion, sarcastic statement, overuse of profanity, opinion, opinion, bad metaphor, opinion, opinion, opinion, barely passable joke about Bush not winning the election, opinion, joke, 3rd place in the special olympics is not a clever joke, preachy voice joke, genius pills is not a clever joke, passable joke, opinion, opinion, repeating previous opinions, poorly setup but decent bit involving pudding cups, opinion, That's up to 5:45
MalachorWraith 11 months ago
@MalachorWraith Objectivity requires a proposition that is generally considered to be objectively true when its truth conditions are "mind-independent"—that is, not the result of any judgements made by a conscious entity or subject. Subjectivity may refer to the specific discerning interpretations of any aspect of experiences. They are unique to the person experiencing them. You're experiencing Subjectivity.
starchmonkey 11 months ago
@starchmonkey
MalachorWraith 11 months ago
@MalachorWraith Wow, pick up an Oxford dictionary, that is not the definition of objectivity at all: observable phenonmena and uninfluenced by emotions of prejudice. You clearly have an agenda.
starchmonkey 11 months ago

an impartial, unbiased attitude, and avoidance of any conflict of interest.
MalachorWraith 11 months ago
@Aardvarked88
MalachorWraith 1 year ago
@MalachorWraith Specialized audience? You mean people that agree with his view? Besides newcomers, aren't most audiences specialized to the comic they came to see. Larry the Cable Guy? And you want to bring up Hicks in contrast? Have you not heard all his jokes about bombing in the South? Does that make them invalid. And Artie Lange is a big crybaby; yeah Cross was a dick, get over it. If you hate Cross that much, stop going on his videos and commenting. Stick to Artie Lange who'll give you

I don't think you can separate the fact that just because you have an opinion about something that you are correct about and well versed in does not make a rant about that subject humorous. Bush was the absolute worst president, I mean we could have handled that crisis no problem if Bush had spent massive amounts of money on the war.

worst president will end up being Obama
sco40 2 years ago
I seriously fucking doubt that. The worst president is Obama? Are you that stupid? List facts. Let's hear how he's the worst president ever. Granted, I'm disappointed, but worst ever?
bigbird7331 2 years ago 2
Oh yea, after a fucking year Obama is the worst president.
Give me a break lol.
Sshelly34213 2 years ago
You give these politicians too much credit. After all, if the welfare of our environment, the violent crime rates, and worldwide poverty mattered to them in anyway at all, we would be exploring alternative energy to it's fullest, every car would be zero emission, global fishing would decrease, and studies to understand the "criminal mind" would be conducted, rather than dicking around with gay marriage rights and abortion.
polkaspotsss 1 year ago
Yea it really pisses me off that people are so pissed about whether or not certain people should have certain freedoms.
It's none of their business if gay people get married, it literally has no negative effect on society. If anything it has a positive effect as 3% of our population will have more of an ability to pursue happiness in their lives.
Sshelly34213 1 year ago
If the entire planet could get over closed-minded nationalistic views and see that the main problems in our world are ecological and environmental--not economical (money is not a natural resource. It does nothing) then we could take steps in restoring the environment. That's what I'd like to see. Not some bullshit economic stimulus or bailout plan.
polkaspotsss 1 year ago
Sounds great, but that's never going to happen...
Sshelly34213 1 year ago
Maybe you won't be open to it right away, but you should look into the ideals of the Venus Project. Even if you don't agree with it, you can definitely learn something from it.
polkaspotsss 1 year ago
Look your ideas are great, but people are selfish and self serving.
Add our western ideals of individualism and personal responsibility and you have even more self preservation. I doubt much will change within 100 years.
Sshelly34213 1 year ago
Let's not be so hasty in our judgments. At the rate of this recession, the entire economic structure is already circling the drain, the people are just denying it.
It doesn't take much more than a holistic financial collapse to lose faith in the system and start searching for alternative modes of governance.
polkaspotsss 1 year ago
Well before the market, the economy used to collapse even quicker that what we see today. Capitalism is not a stable system. I think this collapse as well as the one in the 80s had a lot to do with all the deregulation that occurred in the late 70s and 80s. I mean we had at least 50 years of fairly smooth economics (if we didn't have all the unnecessary wars that were fought, our economy would have been overflowing.)
Sshelly34213 1 year ago
Sorry I was getting a bit off topic there.
Sshelly34213 1 year ago
The Venus Project designed and conceived by Jacque Fresco (now 93 years old) is actually a societal system designed for improving the lives of everybody by (I know it sounds crazy but) eliminating the monetary system in it's entirety. It's amazing when you take a step back and realize how much more damage money does to us than good.
Seriously, I recommend you watch Zeitgeist: Addendum.
polkaspotsss 1 year ago
Perhaps, I've been getting quite a few recommendations to watch this film. Now I have to see what's it's all about.
There have been times when man didn't have any amount of currency, and I don't believe it made them any less greedy or self serving, unless we're talking about tribal societies. I think that works well on a very small level. I can definitely see us going through a major transition in the next century or two though.
Sshelly34213 1 year ago
@Sshelly34213
Well people who work at Duncan Donuts and McDonalds, etc. should be paid minimum wage. Those types of jobs were never meant to support families. Their jobs are easy. There's a reason doctors and lawyers get paid so much. It's because they bust their asses in school and their jobs are difficult, you fucking moron.
modteeth 1 year ago
@modteeth Easy?? You have to deal with the SHITTIEST fucking people, clean, make food, etc..
They're not easy, not at all.
Minimum wage is not even enough to support yourself! Does that sound fair? Minimum wage should be enough to buy groceries and pay apartment bills, plain and simple.
And really?? Because they do. many people lost well paying jobs and were forced into jobs like McDonalds and Dunkin Donuts. Why are they not compensated for?
Sshelly34213 1 year ago
@modteeth yeah dude those jobs aren't easy. Sure those other guys are being paid for their education, but most all jobs are essential, none more so than another. Dumbshits who tripped through college cause their parents paid for it, and now are in supervisory positions makin $60k a year, are no more essential than the guy who farms your food or cleans your house. Minimum wage needs to be a living wage. pure and simple.
Bigguns222 1 year ago
@modteeth you never responded to the point. Those educated people lost high paying jobs and have no choice but to work fast food. i have 2 BA degrees and i am working fast food now and I am actually medically forbidden from physical labor due to bone issues. I am one step away from the hospital and an amputation.
technopoptart 1 year ago
The only way Obama will end up being the worst president ever would be if he ran into a country with the military, bombed them, privatized their oil companies and essentially rob that set group of people of what little wealth they have left. Oh wait, that's right...hahaha that's already been done.
polkaspotsss 2 years ago
@polkaspotsss
Obama is doing a heckuva job continuing Bush's fine tradition.
Robbing from the poor and giving to the rich (that's the "bailouts" for those of you who are s-l-o-w) is just icing on the Obama turd cake.
Teutonicberserker 1 year ago
Every politician does that. Make false promises and then make poems about God and it wins the people over every time. You should have expected that.
polkaspotsss 1 year ago
Let me correct you. Every politician immediately breaks his promises to the American people, they invariably keep their promises to the banksters and israel.
For the record I was relieved that McCain didn't get close to the big red button. That insane bastard would have nuked Iran before his innauguration was over.
Teutonicberserker 1 year ago
I don't understand how that rebukes anything I said. ^^
Just saying.
polkaspotsss 1 year ago
I do think we are heading toward a more socialistic way of life, I think Marx was actually quite a prophetic guy, except I think the fact that western society is doing it gradually as they go along is a good thing. It doesn't seem to work if countries force it.
Sshelly34213 1 year ago
I really like your thoughts, mind if I add you as a friend?
Sshelly34213 1 year ago
In what way?
The poor pay absolutely nothing in taxes.
The rich pay most of it.
I think you're heavily over exaggerating, do you know what's even in the stimulus bill? Do you know that the "bail out" is really just a loan? The money we gave to those companies is going to be paid back, probably with taxing.
Sshelly34213 1 year ago
The poor pays a great deal of taxes.
At every stage of a production an item is taxed. The "retail price" of an item or service hides multiple instances of taxation, which are passed along to the consumer. The government makes more money on a product than anyone else in the supply chain.
Teutonicberserker 1 year ago
Inflation is a hidden tax. The government prints (borrows from the "federal" reserve bank) and "loans" (gives) it to Wall Street banksters. Now there is more money in circulation (inflation) and the taxpayers are on the hook for the extra federal debt, to be recouped by taxs in one form or another. Meanwhile the already rich banksters (who bribed the politicians in the first place) get even more money for themselves while the poor, middle class, and formerly affluent get poorer.
Teutonicberserker 1 year ago
Tax payers are now, but when these bankers are going to have to start paying them bank, hopefully they won't be anymore.
For the record I didn't particularly agree with the bailout, I really just wanted most of these companies to fail. Did we really need to give Ford anything? They're cars are practically falling apart. I certainly don't want to buy a crappy American car. We make faulty, cheap products in America because we want more money for less.
Sshelly34213 1 year ago
They pay about 2%...
Sshelly34213 1 year ago
The poor may pay little Income tax, but they pay a great deal of taxes overall.
Teutonicberserker 1 year ago
Yes, but the rich do as well. The rich really do pay most of the taxes in this country.
I just think poorer people feel it quite badly because they just don't have any money to waste.
