Yes in the initial contact where she cussed, then the cop asked her to stop. It should have been over. The cop should have sent help as soon as he heard the address. He was also hypocritical when he tells her to stop cussing yet cusses back at her and calls her a buffoon. That is NOT acceptable. Leave it up to the media to make the audience feel so sorry for her with those trigger words such as "makes her more frantic" and "near panic." I have listened to this video over 15x now. Just listen to the conversation over and over (only listen to the phone calls, not the reporter or anything). Maybe you'll begin to hear what I heard.

Clearly I heard differently. The person on the line was in the wrong. In an emergency, it is NOT easy to calm yourself down. The person on the line has a responsibility to make sure they hear about these emergencies so that a person does not die. Given that the girl did not have the power to summon an ambulance without the operator, I'm not surprised she freaked out.

Some of the comments seem to take the side of the dispatcher. That it's okay to hang up on the girl because she was being "disprespectful." I don't think these people get it. It's not about whether he's being "respected." It's about the person he is trying to help. What if it wasn't an adult man that was in trouble but a couple of toddlers that were dying. I work in all area of emergency services, both the victim and the officer in this story make me sick, she gives a teenage attitude of "are you going to send me an ambulance or not?" not even in fear enough to say my dad needs help, and the officer who hears swearing everyday, who is PAID to take calls from people who are in their hour of need, hangs up on her, and then arrests her for something thats not even a law. False Detainment?! Overall sad

911 operators are required by LAW to NEVER terminate a call until the caller does and if the caller does terminate the call before the situation is cleared up they are REQUIRED by law to dispatch a patrol unit to investigate. This is FEDERAL law. This man is guilty of violating federal law at least THREE TIMES. Anyone who has even mistakenly dialed 911 and hung up KNOWS this. Yet no one is taking about charges for him. Frantic, she calls again and curses in frustration. She might have even mistaken the 'pickup' sound as a hungup. Once picked up she immediately states she NEEDS AN AMBULANCE AT -ADDRESS-. The cop decides to play "school teacher" instead of immediately cutting to the chase and asking for type of emergency and clarification of details.

Years ago when i worked for the Fire Dept, and was shown the 911 panel, and was thinking about becoming a operator because I also knew freinds in the business, but it just wasnt my cup of tea because I cant really work under the stress it can have.. He’s on 911 so must know the recording starts early. As a 20 yr veteran cop he knows frantic people in near death situations or in agony are often profane. He has also heard much worse than "What the fuck?" He has his regular cop attitude on: Everyone must treat him extra polite because he can arrest them even if they haven’t committed a crime. My guess is they took him off the regular job because of stress and they put him on dispatch. Bad move.

You guys got this story wrong. In this particular town, as with many others, the 911 calls are routed directly to the police station. The cop who arrested her WAS the same person she spoke with on the phone.

The person on the line has a responsibility to make sure they hear about these emergencies so that a person does not die. Given that the girl did not have the power to summon an ambulance without the operator, I'm not surprised she freaked out.

She did not sound scared, a little worried yeah, but there wasn't fear in her voice. Fear for your parent's life, you'd tuck your tail in your pants, apologize, and get him to send an ambulance. Say what you will, but you'd do anything to make sure an ambulance is on its way, even if you know the cop is in the wrong.

Some of the comments seem to take the side of the dispatcher. That it's okay to hang up on the girl because she was being "disprespectful." I don't think these people get it. It's not about whether he's being "respected." It's about the person he is trying to help. What if it wasn't an adult man that was in trouble but a couple of toddlers that were dying. I work in all area of emergency services, both the victim and the officer in this story make me sick, she gives a teenage attitude of "are you going to send me an ambulance or not?" not even in fear enough to say my dad needs help, and the officer who hears swearing everyday, who is PAID to take calls from people who are in their hour of need, hangs up on her, and then arrests her for something thats not even a law. False Detainment?! Overall sad

I have called 911 before and it is a very frantic thing you are doing, you not in your right mind, and if this dispatcher doesn't understand that then he should find other work because he is going to have this problem quite often. The cop, knowing this is an emergency call still felt it was completely right and necessary to take the time to chastise her for uttering a word from a particular subset of the English language which our society, for whatever, reason does not want you to say.
Having a set of words defined as words to can't use is asinine, that the concern over the use of those words leads to this, doubly so.

911 operators are required by LAW to NEVER terminate a call until the caller does and if the caller does terminate the call before the situation is cleared up they are REQUIRED by law to dispatch a patrol unit to investigate. This is FEDERAL law. This man is guilty of violating federal law at least THREE TIMES. Anyone who has even mistakenly dialed 911 and hung up KNOWS this. Yet no one is taking about charges for him. The 911 system has a lot of problems that the old system of call the operator did not.
First off, the 911 system is an extension of the police in most cities.
The operator system was the phone company.
It is now a proven fact that a LOT of crimes do not get reported for this reason alone.
Add to this the fact that a 911 center is VERY expensive, just look at your cellphone bill!
I am not saying that 911 is wrong, just that it needs to be outsourced, made to again be a part of the phone company.

Frantic, she calls again and curses in frustration. She might have even mistaken the 'pickup' sound as a hungup. Once picked up she immediately states she NEEDS AN AMBULANCE AT -ADDRESS-. The cop decides to play "school teacher" instead of immediately cutting to the chase and asking for type of emergency and clarification of details.

Years ago when i worked for the Fire Dept, and was shown the 911 panel, and was thinking about becoming a operator because I also knew freinds in the business, but it just wasnt my cup of tea because I cant really work under the stress it can have.. If you're a dispatcher and understand that the people calling you are frantic, scared and what have you, it's your job to get the information, get the necessary assistance and then maybe try and calm them down.

He’s on 911 so must know the recording starts early. As a 20 yr veteran cop he knows frantic people in near death situations or in agony are often profane. He has also heard much worse than "What the fuck?" He has his regular cop attitude on: Everyone must treat him extra polite because he can arrest them even if they haven’t committed a crime. My guess is they took him off the regular job because of stress and they put him on dispatch. Bad move.
