Donnie burns and Gayon fairweather do the Samba better in style and gusto than brayon wattson. Burns & fairweather is the best. good thing they retired from dancing championships in 1998 if not brayon want have a chance !!!!!!!!

If it wasn't for people like Gaynor and Donnie, Marcus and Karen, or the Laird and Reynolds; ballroom would not be what is today, as these couples shaped ballroom in my opinion.
I love Donnie's whisks at the end of the routine. He stays low & love his pelvic action there. There even seems to be a trace of the real Brasilian movement in those whisks.
These two were the winners of the proffesional worldmaster from 1984- 1996, which means that they were 12 years unbeatable..... I really do not say, that Slavik Kryklyvyy is bad dancer, but he never was a professional world champion...
and their style changed since 1984 too. watching there old vids there was so much spinning and they look more reserved. strange that a dance transformed so much in 10 12 yrs. why did it change? (tho i think today's latin is funner to watch)
Donnie could spin but not very confidently and not successfully every time,almost like a hit and miss for him, I always watched him doing it with my tongue in cheek; Gaynor's spinning was never spectacular. it was OK. Watson can spin;and Killick spinned very well. Slavik' spins are OK but not his specialty! Remember 32 tours in SWAN LAKE? Yes! my two grand-daughters could spin TOO! My partners always begged for relief when we did the Fleckerls in Vienese Waltz in the past years!-dancewu(dot)net

I dont agree that either of them are weak...i find them very balanced couple and their strength was individuality and their control.
Also remember that latin we are seing danced now has become more and more staccato,stylised showdance rather than authentic...the look and style has chnged dramatically.

In dancing, there are two kinds of energies that good dancers produce - the one that you can see, and the one that you feel. This is the latter. If you were present anywhere on the dance floor during this performance, you would feel the energy rushing through even if you cannot see the couple. The reverse samba rolls are amongst the most complicated to dance, and Donnie and Gaynor do it like a tornado strolling in the park...I haven't seen a more powerful samba demonstration than this. 5 Stars!

this is my personal opinion but i think that donnie and gaynor are artist. they are like leonardo da vinci of international style dancing. they are one of a kind. the current generation of champions have more sophiscated routine, energy, etc but imo, they don't have the same level of artistry.
Donnie Burns is like Brahms in Classical Romantic music, unpredictable, energetic, no hang-ups which means he is a romantic classical dancer. Very exciting to watch him dancing, one almost could not leave his eyes off his dancing.That was the experience I got from watching him perform through the years. never got tired of his dancing. Bryan and Carmen always show perfect connection and musical sense...nothing to do with dynamic dancing however. It's a choice...going for technical and musical or acrobatic and pure dynamics. I think Michael and Joanna stand for very dynamic dancing...while Bryan and Carmen show what dancing really is about...pure stories between man and women, based on music...it is just taste guys!!
