Its late in the day for me so this may be a really stupid question but; youve shown how to install LTSP on a server, which is great, straight forward etc but how do I connect to that from another PC? i.e. will install this on a spare server i have but what do i do with the spare PCs i have that I want to connect from? Thanks!!
@bendotcc I'm looking for this solution as well. I want my users to be able to connect remotely from their windows and MAC PCs. I have not found any client for Windows or MAC that will allow them to connect.
Lol, 6 months ago I was searching for something like that, and I found almost nothing, bad that I didn't saw this tutorial. 5 Months ago I configured the server and now I still try to make 32 MB Ram computers to boot from it, and I can't.
i agree on that but i dont agree saying ubuntu us teh best , there are a lot of Linux distros , some of them are smaller , faster and more simple than ubuntu.
ubuntu is commercial shit for the masses is not the best. is not the best in anything
@facejointdotcom How u can say "ubuntu is commercial shit"?!?!?! Wtf? Do u know that everything that Ubuntu has preinstalled is Open-Source? They don't even use Free Software with closed code. Shame! By the way, Ubuntu is considered the best because of his easy-to-install everything and big community. Now even better with the Ubuntu Software Center.

@facejointdotcom I use Backtrack, OpenSuse, FreeBSD, Ubuntu (UbuntuStudio, Debian, variants) and I would have to say that just because the distro is smaller and faster does not make it the best. To be the best distro is one that will take the most people away from Microsoft or bring them to open source software. I think this is waht people think of when saying "best". I would say puppy linux is best for old machines, backtrack (although now Debian based) is best for security, ...

@facejointdotcom but for my current project of migrating an entire office building from Windows XP to Linux I would have to say my top choice are Ubuntu and Suse Linux because it looks professional has more features, repositories, available software, etc. I do think you make a good point point about Ubuntu not being a "light" OS but it is not as commercial as you think. Ubuntu is trying to stay true to open source while going against Red Hat and Suse Enterprise Linux competing for businesses.
@SterlingSnead ur project sounds very fun. and your point about Canonical LTD trying to go against RH & SEL is also truth , the fact that a lot of people[s first linux install is being linux is just a blessing that linux is finally reaching a massive public thanks to this distro and the freecd feature. i encourage that and i actually order periodically some cds, for your goal i think is a good choice. if you where asking me what i would use it would be wifislax distro or estrella roja linux
Wifislax looks interesting I will have to check it out because I am wanting to get into security and forensics. Slackware is definitely hardcore and I need to learn it. Thanks.
thanks it worked perfectly, but how would you make the client to log automatically. I've search all the web and haven't come a cross a good resource yet.
Hi, videos like yours are very few and special, thanks for making a great one on LTSP.
I have no problems installing LTSP and was successful authenticating a thin client.
But I wanted to boot a FAT client. In the login screen it says, "Your home directory is listed as :"/home/$userdir/" but it doesn't appear to exist. Do you want to log in with the / (root) directory as yourhome directory? It is unlikely anything will work unless you use a failsafe session."
Very nice tutorial. Thanks... any idea on how to restrict or prevent users from saving their files on thin clients?

@Hool39 Mac won't work like this, but on PC's with a BIOS you can change change it to boot from network first.
runaway2me80 1 year ago
@Hool39 That's because you can't do this with Windows/OSX. They're too restricted.

Hey, this is a good tutorial on a LTSP server, but can u just tell me which version of ubuntu
police512 2 years ago 2
This particular install was on Ubuntu 8.04.
logicalnetworkingnet 2 years ago
kk but wich , im guessing ubuntu desktop edition?? did u use the alternative1
police512 2 years ago
U don't need alternative, u can just write that commands. I use
sudo apt-get update
sudo apt-get install dhcp3-server first, but if it works so, that means it's Ok.
