love this film, such a lovely song too..if i ever have kids i'll pray my future wife can sing so she can sing this and hushabye mountain to the little nippers..thanks for posting
Even reading the title of this song makes me sleepy. I was daydreaming in class the other day and the title of this song just popped in my head and I couldn't stop yawning.
I had the soundtrack to this movie on LP (33 1/3 record) when I was a kid. When I was a preteen and life felt overwhelming, I'd find listening to this song very soothing.
@emmadilemmasings Dude, I thought you meant she died and I freaked out. She is literally my hero. I grew up listening to her amazing voice and wanting to be just like her. I'm a singer and I consider her a major influence on my life.
I teach an 'at risk' PreK class and I once had a very loveable but troubled little boy in my class. He hated rest time because something in his life had made him afraid of sleeping. We always played lullabies and relaxing music at rest time but one day I decided to put this song, Feed the Birds, and two songs from the sound of music on a cd and had them repeat over and over. He started to like rest time. He said he wasn't afraid because he said she (Julie Andrews) was an angel. Wow.
I mean can you really find a more beutiful or soothing voice than that?? she deserved an oscar for the sound of music!!! as well as everyother musical she has been in
i mean can u really find a voice more soothing or beutiful than that? she deserved and oscar for the sound of music as well as everyother musical she has been in!!
Julie Andrews has a beautiful voice. I don't understand how anyone could find her songs creepy. They always remind me of when I was littler. I Love to Laugh. Ha ha ha ha.
@Aftershines I am glad you don't find it creepy. I was responding to so many of the comments posted on here by younger people. Mary Poppins is one of my fave movies of all times :)
@crochetmom5 i may be biased though because even though i'm fairly young (17), i grew up on good disney like this.. I had a different Mary Poppins song stuck in my head all day.
Well, Mary Poppins does have magical powers, so you could say she magically put them to sleep. But somehow that's not scary to me at all(maybe because I don't watch horror movies).
on the one hand its a pretty lullaby sung by a talented actress
On the otherhand: theres something kind of creepy about it too, i mean if slowed down a bit more and the music slightly atlered it would sound like some freaky warning from a horror movie
Its also kind of interesting because its basicially reverse phsycology but is it just me or do whenever she sings to them the children look hypnotised and posssessed. its like *shudders* creepy...
I love this song and sing it to my children every night (obviously not as good as Julie Andrews) - but it works - they fall asleep and they even ask me to sing it to them!
0 Comments. Practically perfect in every way!

A simple and lovely example of reverse psychology. Only Julie could pull this off with such a wistful rendering. Just gorgeous.
