I am an Afghan and i grew up in Canada (since age of 12), my english is jus fine thanks.. lol but I am ACTUALLy worried that they will see me and go humm u aint white home boy and might discriminate against my english u know wat i mean lol.. soooo my question is.. did u see other ALTs and such who are from other ethnic groups other than white and "african america" ? thanks :)

  • Home slice I thought you were about to say that you didn't go to Japan because you were going to stay and see the birth of your sisters child. Which is a blessing but go and do your thing. The baby will be there when you get back and will be hitting you up for toys before you know it. Im so excitd about you younger cats going off to explore the world and be of influence. Good going. Also your eyes are amazing! Take care!

  • i want to apply for this program in the future so ill be watching your videos!

  • Cool! If you ever have any questions, you can always send me a message. =)

  • Hello! I want to ask you questions about the JET application/interview process. I don't plan on applying until a year from now, but never hurts to think early right?

It made me a bit nervous, I don't really see many black JET's. So now I don't have to feel so out of place/ worried.

  • I found out about it 4 years ago and until applying I researched the program periodically, so it's never to early! Haha.

From what I hear, there aren't very many Black people in Japan, period. I know that a lot of people also come from the Caribbean and whatnot, so it's not just all U.S. Blacks. My brother's been to a couple different cities from his time in the Air Force, he actually even visited Kobe, which is where I'm placed. He had nothing but good things to say and he was treated well

  • Oh yeah, and feel free to ask away

  • Oh cool your going to Japan. I also want to do that program so when you come nack make a vid on how your stay went.

  • I plan on making update videos while I'm over there, too so you should stick around =D

  • Wow so awesome to see a black people in Japan! I'm black and hope to be going soon!

  • Totally, I hear there's not that many people of color there, so it's a pretty mind-blowing experience sometimes, for both parties.

  • Hai - Hopefully much better than here though eh - besides I live in hillbilly infested towns - used to "hard" racism. Hopefully for you there the only uncomfortable racism like things should be them not used to seeing a person of color and thats all. I wish all the luck I possibly can stinachristina.

  • I meant " I wish "you" all the luck I possibly can.

  • It's aaall good, thanks!

  • hi congrats on becoming a jet... i guess i might see you in Japan! Also congrats on becoming an auntie soon!

  • Double thanks! You got in also? Are you in the A group or B group?

  • i think its group A...

  • Aww, I'm in Group B... but who knows, maybe we'll run into one another over there =D

  • yes you never know. have you gotten your placement yet???

  • Yeah, I'll be in Kobe, like halfway between Osaka and Kyoto in the Kansai area. You?

  • I will be in Fukui-ken... How exiting!!!!!!! We could keep in touch and maybe even meet up!

  • Totally! Is Fukui a city/town/village?

  • prefecture.... like a state :-p

  • Congratz on your acceptance and congratz on being a future auntie!

So it is okay to apply before graduation even without experience?

My school requires me to have tons of hours in student teaching, so would that count as experience?

I want to ask you a million more questions, but I won't...I'll contain myself...

  • You can apply before graduation, you just have to be fully graduated the month before you leave. I don't have any experience teaching, barely. I babysit, occasionally, that's about it.

Feel free to send me a message with all of your questions, I'd be glad to answer to the best of my ability.

  • Oh wow! JET! Seeing as how I already subscribe to Claytonian, I HAVE to stick around and see how this goes for you! *subscribes*

  • Oh wow, thanks a lot! =D

  • No worries. I'm a big fan of Japan, but have only been there for a couple of days at a time. It's so weird because it's a totally civilised developed country, but EVERYTHING is done differently. A lot of fun.

I'll have to look through your back catalogue to see if there's a vlog about you applying etc.

  • Nah, there's not mention because I didn't want to jinx it so I barely even talked about it in real life, haha!

  • Sweet, congrats on getting in. That is one thing I wished I would of done after college, but I went straight into my career instead. At any rate, good luck in Japan. I'm sure you'll have a blast. Keep the vlogs up so we see how it goes.

  • For sure! I'm going to have to keep my family and friends back home updated, too.

I figured if I didn't go now, I never would. I'm leaving before I have some stuff called "responsibilities" or whatever they are =P

  • Nerds are cool. It's great that you got into the JET program and about your sister...life is like that, stuff seems to happen at the same time!

  • I was thinking the saaaame thing. Yay for life! =P

  • One of my best friends did that. He ended up living there for 5 years. I went and stayed with him for a month. Tokyo is the coolest city in the world. Seriously. I freakin loved it. Congrats!!

  • Thanks! I don't know where I'm placed yet, but I really hope it's not too far from there =D

  • Cool... can't wait until you fly me out so we can go to Tokyo Disneyland together.

    Congrats!

You already know I KNEW you would get in! :)

  • My interview went REALLY well so deep down I knew I was gonna get in, but I didn't want to get cocky and jinx it.

And I'm not getting paid THAT much!

  • That. Is. Soooooo. Cool!!!! Is that program a US only thing? Can I apply even though I live in England? I would soo love to go and live in Japan for a while! :O

Congrats! Sucks about missing the baby though :(

  • No way is JET exclusive to the U.S., just as many people come from the UK. Go check out jetprogramme.org for more info!

  • Thank youuu! I'll look into that :)

  • I have a friend that wants to apply to that program! Congrats! I'm applying to the Peace Corp so keep your fingers crossed for me!

  • Thanks, I was looking at the Peace Corps for a minute, too. Good luck with that, it sounds awesome!

  • I have always wanted to go to Japan.. wow congrats on that.. thats very awesome.

  • Thanks!
