  • how come the push cat runs in first while running to tag another 51, wouldnt it make more sense to run second to make faster cycle times and less traffic in the cut

  • A good way to train green guys is to get a sand pit happening and use diecast models, sounds a bit childish but you can turn it into a good session and have a bit of fun at the same time.

  • @Gavin84w Hell Gav, thats my coffee table.

  • why didnt they just follow the road around

  • Hey vantagetes,

What is that 651E? What for? Like make more loads or clean up something like that? But I knew what bulldozer is..but I don't know what 651E stand for...

    And, nice video!

  • @FlyBikes089 A 651E is a scraper. The machines the D11 is pushing are 651E's. They are single engine scrapers. They're twin engine counterparts are 657's.

  • i dont think they wanted to buy a push blade so they slapped a d7 blade on there is what it looks like, but i wear glasses for a reason (that is actually a good idea i think if the blade could take it)

  • @TNMoFoKiller nvm i know now

  • @TNMoFoKiller Pushcats have smaller blades so as to not puncture a tire.

  • @25mfd ya i know, thats why i said it looks like they slapped a d7 1 on there

  • It should be awesome to work with those machines ..... Ill have my chance one of these days

  • Whats the point of a scraper if it can't do the job on it's own?

  • @krwl1000 It's a proven fact that a scraper working with a pusher is more productive than a scraper operating alone.

Also. look at the soil conditions.

Coefficient of traction dictates a TRACKED vehicle operates more efficiently in muddy soil than a WHEELED vehicle.

  • @krwl1000 Wellllll 25mfd is on the right track but not quite. A single engine scraper burns half the fuel a twin does, cutting costs. Not to mention wear and tear on engine/drive train is half. The only time it uses two engines is while the dozer is pushing. If you have a flat or downhill haul singles can make a ton of money. If there are hills or slightly softer ground conditions twins win every time. We also use singles to train new operators as the push cat (experienced) directs the cut.

  • @vantagetes My comments were directed to scraper ops as a WHOLE.

As you clearly stated, a case could easily be made for using single or twin engine scrapers.

BUT.....some of your vids show a twin engine in muddy soil that would not be able to move without a pusher.

Even a twin engine needs help when the situation dictates.

This is key. One must make changes as the situation changes in order to get the job done.

  • @krwl1000 Agree with Vantegetes. Single engine scrapers are not the most versatile machine out there, but they are definitely the most cost effective way to move dirt around a jobsite, especially long hauls. And yes, as a pushcat guy I always get the rookies...but I disagree with ya about the soft conditions...I'd rather have a bunch of 31's and a pushcat that knows what he's doing than 2 twins....it works to have a good pushcat guy around reminding the scrapers where they can and can't go.

  • a good video. Thanks for posting.

  • Really nice video!

This proves that it's possible to make videos of heavy equipment, including using zoom and moving the camera, without making the end result looking like there was a earthquake during the recording. Thank you!

  • @Stokeypower Only if Burnout isn't holding the camera.

  • Not a good pushcat operator, he should not move more than 1 scraper length when exchanging. I also noticed he left a scraper sitting while he was ripping, when you say slamming out scrapers, he should do 2 a minute. The D11 is slow machine for pushing scrapers, better to use a D10 (84W prefix)

  • @greeniron32 Yeah... while we wouldn't argue the prowess of the D10, name one advantage the 10 has as compared to the 11R. We are prepared for an education.

  • @vantagetes To name a few advanges . The D10 has a shorter undercarriage, so it turns quicker & the D348 V-12 picks up RPM's faster the the 3508 V-8 does. Also a couple of good running D9L's with cushion blades/ rear push blocks &...good operators can out load a single D10 or D11.

  • @greeniron32 A D9L is the early version of a D10, so telling me two of them can out push a single D10 isn't telling me anything I don't know. Caterpillar recommends a D10 for a 31/37 and a D11 for a 51/57, I dare say they know what they are talking about. A D10 will not load a 651, I have one trying that right now. The D10 is marginally faster in travel speed but the D11 has 850HP vs 580 and 340,000lbs of rimpull over 220,000lbs. A good operator can get on the power early to save time.

  • @greeniron32 If the whole point of the operation is to move dirt by filling the scraper bowl, what good would it do to push the scrapers over an area where the dirt is so compacted that it won't get in the bowl of the scraper????

  • @greeniron32 He was ripping because he wanted to move the cut forward and has his buggy skinners trained to cut hit ripper line...same way I do mine. Don't want to do it often, but if you want to change things up and don't have a radio, ripper line is hard to miss.

  • Harder work ! Phew !

  • whats a price tag on one of them pushcats? more or less than a standard ?. i love watching scrapers there just so cool and hardly noone other than you and socal posts em

  • Eww.. are most of these guys new?

  • @godackgudalach1 We use singles to train, then they graduate to twins.

  • Haven't you guys learned anything by watching Ronnie's crews? Turn the shank around in the ripper and get that machine working in both directions.....

  • @alco424 Was "Ronnie" a forman around around Calgary?

  • @alco424 Apparently not lol

  • No time to rest here. That makes the days go by in a flash. o/

  • Caterpillar are awsome :p They are the only manufactor of pushcats xD

  • @MrWeerner Actually I have seen Komatsu dozers with push blades, as well as an old Fiat Allis with a push blade.

  • @vantagetes hell yeah lets get some HD41 action on here

  • @vantagetes But a Komatsu dozer with push blade would be called a pushkomatsu then, right? ;) hehe

  • @MrWeerner No, it would still be called a piece of shit.

  • @vantagetes I, Jason, give you, Alex three thumbs on up that one.

  • belts are loose on somthing i can hear em sqeauling an small blade on the 11r

  • @Madill3800c small blade cuz its a pushcat

  • Well, the blade is also really small because it's not a blade, it's called a push block. They are spring mounted so you can tag onto the scrapers quicker without beating the crap out of them.

I like the ripper line, the buggy was hesitating at the top of the hill, unsure where to cut. Can just hear the cat skinner thinking "Fine, if you really don't know where to cut I'll draw you a map".

  • That D11 is a fatty

  • Cool video, and is the reason that the blade on the D11 is so small because its primary job is just for pushing and ripping

  • Now that's teamwork at its best

  • Haha, is the ripper. Derp.

  • What is the thing mounted on the back of the d11? Yowzers a d11 pushing 51's down hill....doubt there is much extra space in the bowl at the end of the cut.
