  • i don't have a linux...

  • Can you also run vice city with wine?

  • how you make that when u move a window move like that?

  • It looks like the game is lagging while your driving. Have you noticed any drops in the frame rate?

  • @TittyTittyBangBangXX Its because the screen recorder is only capturing at 25FPS, but the game is running a lot faster than that

  • @urbanorenato10 It might do. Intel isn't exactly great for gaming but its an old game with far less demands compared to modern games

  • So I download Linux, make it bootable from flash stick, and then install wine, and some games with it. It will all take windows memory on default (c partition) or not? Never really worked with Linux : )

  • @everyoneSalegend Linux will not overwrite Windows. That said, ignore the fanboys, it's not a proper replacement for Windows like they want to mislead you into thinking.

  • The creators of WINE are geniuses...

  • Or get windows.

  • @HaloSpartanG13 Not enough spare hours in the day to be running windows

  • @quidsup I have fewer spare hours to attempt to get Wine working. :P

  • @HaloSpartanG13 Have you ever used WINE? Anything on their Gold list just works...it's literally just installing WINE from the repos then running the installer.

  • @MrSlowestD16 Yeah, what if the game you want to play isn't on Wine? Enjoy playing Quake 3 reskins without it.

  • @HaloSpartanG13 If it's not on WINE then you obviously can't play it (unless you use an emualtor, virtual machine, different compatibility layer, etc.). You can't fault the OS for software not meant to run on it.

If I was to take a program that did absolutely nothing (0 lines of code), compile it on Linux for x86, try to run it on a Windows box (also x86) it wouldn't run - and vice versa. Games are software, and game SW isn't compiled for Windows.

  • @HaloSpartanG13 Furthermore, the software is written for the DX graphics layer - which is proprietary to MS, and comes standard with Windows. If a company (as some rarely do) decided to write it for the OpenGL graphics interface for example, which can be installed on Windows, Linux, and OS X (and is open source), then the game would simply need its binaries recompiled for those respective systems and everything would be peachy. Can't fault the OS because games aren't designed for it, you know?

  • @MrSlowestD16 DX is better then OGL, Nobody uses it except maybe on the PS3. It's the standard for the industry.

  • @HaloSpartanG13 It's obvious you've never used either.

I've worked with both DX and OGL, they're exactly the same thing in terms of both performance, their API styling, and what tools they provide. The only difference is that one was created by a more popular OS, FOR that OS. I'm not saying OGL is better, just more portable (open source). If it wasn't for DX being standard on a more popular OS, then games would run on any platform. As I said before, you can't fault the OS for that.

  • @MrSlowestD16 It's not just a more popular OS, it's also a more popular console too. And it's more then just DX too, but of course, Devs would rather write for one more popular OS then putting money into porting to an obscure, bug ridden OS or an OS that requires an overpriced plastic brick to operate.

  • @HaloSpartanG13 If MS made DX open source then games would run just as well on Linux and Mac as they do on Windows, but MS makes bank off of having that monopoly on DX so it'd be a bad marketing decision to open source it. My only point is that you can't fault the OS for having a component which somebody else owns & has full rights to. They even go as far as to screw over their own users by saying "DX # won't run on Windows X" when in-fact it works fine, they just say it won't..it's all money.

  • @MrSlowestD16 Go tell the devs to use OpenGL, then. BTW, give me proof of dx11 in XP.

Also, enjoy Office x64 and DX11 in Linux.

    (SPOILER ALERT: They don't work)

  • @HaloSpartanG13 It has only to do that it's a more popular OS. That means that whatever is done to it is what developers are going to follow. Seeing as Office uses the .NET framework, and both that and DX11 are proprietary to MS, then people are going to target those two frameworks. Doesn't have much to do with anything else, programs, which one is 'better', etc. It ONLY has to do with what layers who owns. MS owns both in this case, and give source to neither.

  • @MrSlowestD16 ...

    1. If MS gave a shit about desktop Linux, they could sell a Office port like they do for OSX. Except MS doesn't, and the fact linux distros are so different from each other prevents a port.

    2. There's already an open source net version, and MS even said they wouldn't sue anyone using it. It doesn't make Office x64 magically run though.

  • @HaloSpartanG13

    1. I never said MS gave a shit about Linux - nor should they, the more OS's they sell the more cash they pocket. Unfortunately the same isn't true for Ubuntu or any other FOSS distro, they do not get more cash regardless of how many people use their OS.

    2. While I haven't heard of this open .NET implementation you speak of, it's more-so because people feel OpenOffice and LibreOffice are sufficient, and better, than MS Office. In some respects I agree, not with features.

  • @HaloSpartanG13 If MS dropped the source on .NET Office would be working flawlessly in a week - same goes if they dropped the source on DX11, maybe a month all games would run fine.

It has to do with compatibility layers. If you have and retain all rights to component X, and you own 80% of the market, then people will build FOR component X, doesn't matter what anybody else does, it's not profitable any other way.

  • That's not a massager?! He's not a massager would have been more appropriate.

  • @growingneeds lol

  • cool video I should reinstall wine to see if my game of tron 2.0 finally works.

  • @quidsup Good, even with 9600 GT 512MB, sometimes I have to login with Unity 2D to work Emulators and newest genertation games working properly. Review PlayonLinux as well instruct both Games more Wine GUI.

Quick question: What sound mixer do you use: ALSA or PULSE? Take care, bro.

  • @UnderlineVideos2 Im not impressed with POL both GTA 3 & SA failed to work in POL but worked absolutely fine with stock Wine. I can think of a couple of games that were buggy on Wine that might work with POL, might have to try them out.

I use Pulse for sound mixer. Cheers mate

  • Man that load time between island .... why quidsup why must you tempt me to buy a ssd

  • @warlockofabaddon lol treat yourself and buy one.

  • Wow i haven't played this game in a long while,It may be time to get into the attic and find my old PS2 with GTA 3 and Vice City...

  • @OmenX13 I would so like to play GTA VC again, but I think I sold it some time ago :-(

  • I remember playing this when it came out and I nearly got it taken off me when my mum caught me killing people :)

  • @Ograws lol I was 18 when this game came out so my parents couldn't really complain about me playing it.

  • @quidsup good for you :D

  • GTA SA Actually works really good I installed GTA SA and San Andreas Multiplayer. Actually works really good about 98% of the time.

  • @dynetrax Mine works a lot better after updating GTA SA. Managed to crank up draw distance, anti-aliasing, and run graphic effects at very high.

  • @quidsup Yeah GTA SA alone works really well but I'm saying with San andreas multiplayer (SAMP) its kinda sketchy sometimes because its not technically a mod because theres no mod api for the game, its more of a code injection overlay so in a wine environment that tends to get unstable.

  • As i can see it works great!

  • Man, I haven't played GTA III in a while. I might have to dust off my PS2 and play it some time.

  • :) It`s one of those games that working in wine without any problems. It would be interesting if you have shown, for example, GTA San Andreas or ... GTA5))

  • @TheHotery GTA SA is next on my list. I'll have another go with GTA IV and try and get a better vid of it working in Wine.

  • Comment removed

  • Damn I had so much fun with this game. Haven't played it in awhile though.

Could you please send me your save file? I don't want to start from scratch.

Also, if you want some real action, type in GUNSGUNSGUNS.

  • @blackoutworm I vaguely remember that cheat, did it give weapons to all the pedestrians? I haven't played GTA3 since about a year after it was released, can't believe how much of it I still remember.

Yeah sure message me your email address and I'll send you my save file.
