First, I love that you do these dyi's... they are very helpful. Second, you and others have mentioned in a few of your posts about a group or club for long hair... what is that? I have hair that I can sit on and would love to be in on the group!
This is genius! I've done 4-strand braids before, but they always seem to spin or twist about, or they just don't always work correctly. This looks great! Also, the small braid around the base of the Hawser braid gives the whole thing an "I Dream Of Jeanie" feel - this would be a great style for bellydancing!
Love this!! Can't wait to try it. I really appreciate your tutorials. I grew my hair out for my husband, who loved it long when I was 16. But I'm not 16 anymore. I appreciate finding ways to style it. Your vids have helped me want to keep it long. Thanks so much.
I think that if guys are asking her for masculine adaptations, and she is responding to what they want, then the perception is on the part of the guys asking not Torrin.

Why doesn't a man need to cover his hair tie, is it not manly enough. I love what you do but you're so stuck in the female male thing, we're just born as little THINGS, the only thing that separates us is our genitals, society imprinted the rest.
Most of the men I know detest buns and think they are too "girly", not all of course, and I actually thinks buns look nice on the menfolk, but I'm just going with what my other guys have told me. By all means cover your hair ties if you want. I keep getting asked for more "masculine" type braids and things, so I'm assuming that the guys want to differentiate themselves. So sorry to offend.
Wow! You need to calm down, I never suggested that there is nothing else that separates animals and the sort. I'm not going into too much depth here mate I'm only commenting on her one sexist comment. I'm not ignorant nor attempting to educate anybody! I realize I am not the most knowledgeable person of all time and neither are you. What kind of a person swears like that and personally insults others opinions?
That's hardly how you go about expressing how you feel. There's a lot I could say about you but I have a little thing called respect. Anyway what has biology got to do with a male wearing a bun, I'm talking about the surface issue, the sexism, biology plays no role in my argument as men would wear buns, perhaps on average not as many would but it pushes those numbers down by saying something like that. What has biology got to do with that. It's a hair style.
omg. i laughed so hard at that snake charming braid dance bit i almost peed myself. frankly i wouldnt have even noticed it unless you point it out. i think everyone does it though! im gonna be cracking up the next time i catch myself doing it. great vid and ill be trying this tonight! thanks again!
Hola, Torrin! Remember me? :) If not, oh well. I was wonder how you think a ... "Rope-braided french braid" would look like? I don't mean a french rope braid. I mean where if you did 3 rope braids at the crown of the head, and then just english braid downward adding hair like a regular french braid. Or dutch. I always like doing dutch, it looks more Vibrant :)
Thanks that was really cool. Altho i'm not sure if my hair is long enough for that. If you would take a look at one of my videos, if you have the time to let me know if it is long enough, and what else i can do with it..? thanks ! xD
I have arm pit length hair but I enjoy watching your videos and am currently growing my hair out. I missed having my "rapunzel hair" like I did when I was a little girl, so I'm going to stay subscribed to you. One question though, would this style work well doing it in a low poney to the the side? I always liked the way braids looked when they are slung over one shoulder.
Braid it up any way you want! I always do the back of the head pony style because it's the easiest for me to demonstrate. You do it up however you like it...I just give technique, you give it style!
That's beautiful. I'm really not sure my husband would have the patience to sit through having it done but if we ever go somewhere special I now I have a great idea for what to do.
Plus, my friends who knit and spin will like it too. I made sense of your Rope Braid video by applying what I knew about plying. It's a great video, I just get confused if I don't understand all the tiny details.
thanks so much! i think ill modify it into pigtails (pigtails on the back of my head right next to each other so i can use one extra braid to wrap around both of them and hide both elastics) until my hair gets longer.. its barely waist length now and my english braids only reach my bra strap.. i hope im as cool as you when i get older.. for now im just your average geeky college kid..
Woo Hoo - I'm famous.... I was actually joking about turning two rope braids into a hawser - but that looks absolutely fabulous. I'm going to have to try it myself.
If you go anywhere around old boats you'll "have" to wear that braid. For those who don't know - rope yarn is twisted to make rope - ropes are twisted the opposite way to make a hawser and hawsers are twisted the opposite way to make a cable.
this looks just like a 4 stranded box braid

Thank you very much for this instruction!!!
Today, I wear this braid for the first time and it got me A LOT OF "wows" and "how-did-you-do-its". And nobody believes that it 's really easy ;-)
As all of my rubber bands get lost all the time, I had to use a neon orange one - but it's perfectly hidden by my hair :-)

very cute! i think i will do an extra rope braid (or twist, as i call it) instead of an english braid to wrap around the base of the howser braid. =)
