ude use trapcode form instead! well it was good for your plugin choise . Watch my tutorial for making a impressive 3D flag animation, and then make a new video ;) but nice try though........
in my opinion Trapcode Form destroys all other plugins if you want the best and most impressive flag animation......
This is just gorgeous! I was looking into making an american flag blanket, looking into it before I start and hoping I finish by Independence Day. Thank you so much for sharing!
You are amazing. I am going to do the same thing, having seen your comment on mikey's page. My fiance's grandparent's 65th anniversary is coming up and they were both Capts in the Airforce during World World 2. I want to make them an amazing gift for them. :D
OMG!! I've been waiting 5 months for this!! Can't wait to get started on this. I have 2 to make for Xmas. My 2 nephews came home from Iraq serving our country. God bless our servicemen and women who make us so proud!! Thanks so much for sharing your talents. You created a beautiful work of art!
If anyone has this pattern please send it to me at wiley.m@cox.net...I am a volunteer for the El Reno Free Medical Clinic and I could auction this off to raise much needed funds for the clinic...Thank you in advance.
nebraska_650@cox.net is my valid email address. remember the underscore. It's kind of backwards from my id here - 650nebraska; sorry for the confusion. Anyone can email me and I'll send the pattern via PDF document.
I have created a rough draft of the pattern and put it online at
It should be pretty close; but I did the afghan first and then wrote the pattern; so I'm sure there is a mistake or two in there. When you find them, let me know so I can correct.
Won't let me post a URL. There is a link in my main "broadcast" page where it is. Otherwise, I'm not sure how to share a non-video document in this environment. Can email me at nebraska_650@cox.net and I can send the PDF document...
In the pattern, the first page describes the ratios. When crocheting, obviously we can't get that exact; especially with this stitch since (i think i remember) it's a multiple of 7 stitches..so I would suggest just getting as close to those dimensions as possible. But because the dimensions on page 1 are ratios, it should be correct for any size flag; that's the benefit of using ratios.
I am making this flag, a Jasper Johns version. Thank you for teaching me how to do this stich. What I need to know is how many stitches are used for the blue section. How did you determind the size of this section?

I used the dimensions. It's explained in my pattern I'm about to post. But here's the formula:
measure the length of your afghan (stripes) now. Let's say that's 93 inches. Take that measurement and divide by 1.9. That would give you a figure of 49 inches. Then take that 49 inches figure and multiply by 0.76. You'll get 37 inches. So roughly 37 inches from the left edge, you start the blue color. I adjusted and started the blue at the mid-point of a shell closest to that 37 inches.
This is beautiful! Have you posted the pattern anywhere yet? I'm new to crochet also, I was thinking of trying to think of how i could make a flag, ive never done a big project but would love to try this. Do you know about how many things of yarn you used? I really this this is the most beautiful crochet project I've seen on here!
my husbands sister just gave birth to a little baby girl, yesterday actually and we dont really know each other so i been thinking of making her baby a crochet flag blanket of their country (you know to suck up to the inlaws LOL). this is the perfect stich for a flag. thank you for posting this.
Thank you. I am trying to finish up the pattern for it. I was able to sit down last night and go through a small sample to make sure I'm getting the stitches marked correctly. Hoping to have my pattern for release in the next few days.
how did u put the gold tassles on? did u crochet them on or did u just pull them through and knot them, please respond because im making a USA flag aswell and im upto the tassles

What is shown in the video is a mixture of things. After I finished the flag itself, I then went around the flag in gold; first row of sc then a row of dc. This, I felt, gave me some good stitches to attach the fringe to.
At one point, I was considering hanging this afghan, so I added a row of large loop sc stitches. Please forgive me for not using the right terminology for that. The fringe is then individual yarn pieces knotted on to each dc.
Yes, the stars were done separately (i have a video of how I did them) and then am sewing them on. I got one side (50 stars) complete some time ago; I am just now getting back to finishing the sewing on of the other 50 (have about 20 more to go).
I'm in the process. I have the pattern written out about 80% done; and then will run it through a test run. I will definitely look for help and will take you up on your offer. It's been idle for a bit due to my daughter's illness taking priority. I hope to revive it here soon.
Really a piece of art! Quite beautiful and I attend to give it a whirl. Thanks so much for the pattern!

Are those dimentions for any size afghan? Mine is 50 inches wide and 203 stitches across.

So based on a flag that is 50 inches wide, the Union will be 20 inches wide. (50/1.9) * 0.76 = 19.999999.
