  • wonderful playing, such a nice drum so many voices. thanks for posting.it inspires me to practise more on my drumming. Hari Bo. Aum shanti.

  • !!! Awesome !!!

  • cool instrument

  • Om, own the packawaj, I have a problem spending hides are here in Brazil and has no spare leathers, would help me get new leathers, or me indicate the location abroad where I can import new leathers.

  • I don't understand. The guy in green is just randomly saying those words which the guy in purple plays accordingly or is pre planned? sori real musical noob here.

  • @tamilshoutcom,

He is reciting lessons. It is preplanned in that regard. Not random meaningless words

  • @sonofthedestroyer Hmm okie. Tnks.

  • :DDDDDDDDDDDD

  • Yeahhhh!!

    Wonderful!!!

  • The gentleman who is giving vocals is also good, by the way. Very clear vocals.

  • and v. clear understanding of tala as well

  • nice

  • On TVG sir's attitude towards fellow musicians, he is just frank and cannot stand hyprocrisy especially with those who benifit from him which is the least expected of a self respecting person. At seventy five,He stands tall with a great heart to encourage, guide and love without expectations, unlike the bigger lot - the so called POPULAR!

  • thanks for sharing this with us.

  • Genuine critics would always say TVG sir should have been born fifty years ahead or later of his time for what he has been doing for mridangam would have become either legend or media favoured accordingly. The tone of Pakhawaj is again entirely different.(contd...)

  • What TVG sir did was giving a bigger vettu tattu (upper most layer on both the sides) and a karanai (black) with more dia. He introduced teflon rope and silicon gum. He is more a scientist in a musician and what he did improved the tone and ease of the player - certainly not unwelcomed. I know many of today's senior mridangists who follow his techniques and also style of playing for the gallery.(contd..)

  • ghatamsuresh (9 months ago),

I would very much like to try and play a TVG designed mridangam. I would like to see how it feels. Are there any in the UK available?

  • why do people find his playing controversial? i live in england, i love mridungham, meet all the legends when they come to london bhavan. I never knew his mridungham sound was controversial? i just had a mridungham specially made by him arriving tommorow! cant wait.

  • I being a senior disciple of Dr T V gopalakrishnan would like to make the following comments. Please do not casually categorise TVG sir as unpopular. Rasikas should realise their limitations in studying a musician wholly before commenting.(contd..)

  • You misunderstand me. I like his playing technique. I even have his Laya Tharangam CD. I simply noted the fact that many people i have met accuse him of doing whatever.

  • No. I also read your earlier comment that Sri TVG sir is a world class mridangist. Your reply to sanjulen would send wrong signals to youngsters about great men. It is a pity TVG sir rarely plays for today's singers lest he would be giving practical guidence on what unobtrusive embelishment of a song is - to learners and many popular professionals.

  • I am so proud to say that I know TVG sir personally, he is amazing!!! Music genius!!! out of the world!! wait till you hear his vocal prowess!!!

  • Ladies and Gentlemen this is TVG! A man who the rest of the carnatic world has been trying to keep under the carpet! The reasons? His controversial mridangam sound, his technique etc. Sad in a way because he is a world class mridangist. I have some of his CDs.
