SEE ,they didn't need The Andantes.That was just a mean spirited ploy by Berry Gordy to push Diana Ross farther into the front and push Mary and Cindy in the back.Oh what money can do to people.It was completely uncalled for.I saw them with Florence and they put on a show that nobody could tell anything was going on behind the scenes.Flo had a right to feel betrayed by Gordy.Once there were three and then just one and two others.Cindy was the only one to replace her and it still wasn't the same.

I know Flo took it real hard with Diana taking all the leads. I would feel exactly the same. But it was a hi-power business. An enviable job. A great livelihood. Big $. With their crazy schedule and intense pressure, the Supremes could really do without the aggravation from one of their members being constantly wrecked by jealousy and resentment. The Supremes were better off with Cindy Birdsong. Unfortunate for Flo but true.

interesting diana Still considered herself a Supremes here because she announced simpley "by the way ladies and gentlemen we're The Supremes..didnt say we're Diana Ross and the Supremes..although that was their Official name at this time with Cindy having joined a yr earlier..diana was still in a group mode..and this i how i remember seeing her. havin fun with her group.even if its jus a stage act. still believe they love each other inspite of all they went through.

Mary was good Cindy was good Flo had one hell of a Back up voice. probably could have stood a few more leads..but sorry Flo's voice was not unique. Gladys Horton of Marvelettes, Martha Reeves of Vandellas, Mary Wells, and Gladys Knight All had unique voices and yes sounded had identity..Flo..was great for harmony but singing solo like the ladies I mentioned..wouldnt have cut it..and Mary Wilson tried for 40yrs yet could never make the public accept her as a better voice than diana. sorry.

Yes Florence was unique. She had a way of making backup sound like lead. The Public certainly has accepted Mary Wilson as a soloist. She is not waiting by the phone for a reunion nor is she waiting on a royalty. She's been touring since the 80's. And if she is still doing the same thing twenty plus years later, that obviously says the public has accept her. Get over it.

I agree even though Berry tried to put Flo in the background if you listen carefully her voice still stands out even over Dianas lead because her voice gave the whole group a fuller and richer tone which went when she left. It was probably best that she sung back up because (not hating on Diana) but Diana could manage the type of backing voice that Flo could.

this show is availabale on DVD. a few days later they recorded the show in the talk of the town in london, so it is very similar. in amsterdam no "keep me hanging on" .

Margie and Flow are not Vandellas, the group was Martha Reeves, Rosalind Ashford and Annette Beard- Helton (other Vandellas included Gloria Williams, Betty Kelly Lois Reeves, Sandra Tilley)
