  • This was a pretty dumb game, as was Match Game--it was the hosts and the guests (in Match Game's case) that made the show. Richard was wonderful.

  • The nighttime show last auntil september, didn't it? I believe $100,000 Pyramid replaced it.

  • @tpir1972 The last show of the nightime show aired in May with reruns airing until September.

  • Bye Richard You were great

  • i think this host kisses WAAYYYYY too much in my humble opinion

  • The Mackin Family have the perfect children..a blonde, a brunette and a redhead.

  • We need to pass a law prohibiting the networks from putting their promos and logos on the screen during the program. It is infuriating. It is out of control. Do it during the commercials, if they must. They are all guilty of it, some worse than others. Enough!

  • The Mackins should've been brought back to compete on Ray Combs' first "Family Feud" episode as returning champions in 1988, but weren't asked back or invited for some reason.

  • @ChihuahuaboyDH How do you know that?

  • I've watched this episode at least a dozen times, & every time I see it I get quite emotional & want to break down in tears. Richard Dawson's brief speech at the beginning is very heartfelt, & the studio audience was on it's feet and applauding, paying heed to every single word Richard was saying. I'll bet every member of that audience was shedding tears! Richard is such a master at what he does! Thanks for making "Family Feud" the institution it has become, Sir Richard!

  • @ChihuahuaboyDH I know this is a two mont old post, but I have to agree with you totally. When it comes down to it, when you look the phrase "Class Act", there should be a picture of Richard Dawson... just to name one game show host.

  • Anyone know if Gene's inflection was different when he said Richard's first name in the intro for this? I ask only because the video cuts that part off.

  • this was taped the day i was born

  • 0:01 epic win

  • They ran the nighttime version after this one went off the air. Or did they both go off on the same day?

  • I wish I was there. Though this was a year before i was born

  • BECAUSE WE LOVE YOU, RICHARD!

  • alaska?

  • Funny thing I noticed. Starting at about :40, look in the third row of an audience. There's a guy in a dark blue suit that's just obsessed about getting on TV. He isn't applauding Richard, but himself because a camera is pointed in his direction. A couple more shots afterwards proves this.

    Can anyone else see this?

  • What happened 2 helments????????

  • I have always loved Richard Dawson. I have watched him my whole life.

  • Is The Running Man Richard's only movie?

  • Yes, Match Game is the last daytime network game show for ABC.

  • on the surface everything looks hunky-dory, but the producers hated Richard and couldn't wait to be done with him.

  • @bigjim10011, thats a lie.

  • "Because they love you Richard!"

I just felt and said awe about that. Shows how much they really appreciated about him.

  • As weird as this sounds, I actually played this open with the theme from the '94 Feud, found at the Television Production Music Museum site. To me, it sounds like it fits pretty well.

I love the theme from the 76-85 version, but I pray to God that the current Feud goes back to music from either the first version, but more wanting the 94 Feud!!!

  • thx cuz everyone thought he did like me.

  • Richard's so sweet, I just wanna give him a hug. Poor guy. This episode was hard for him.

  • I love Richard Dawson & Gene Wood too!

  • I love the cheesy 70s brown, yellow and orange studio decor.

  • Why does he give weird hand expressions and finger moves?

  • I was in the audience at this show. There wasn't a dry eye in the house. Gene Wood was crying buckets.

  • u r amazing. u saw him at the best time. awesome.

  • @taurnguard

    Liar.

  • Richard Dawson will be missed, he was such a great gameshow host.

  • Two people said a scarf? Yeah things have changed so much these days. And shoes/boots was the second answer? Doesn't that one go without saying it.

    Loved the Feud though.

  • i love richard!

wait, isn't family feud still on? so why is he saying that it's the last show?

  • no its not still on it is on again. the show was cancelled until 94 i believe. then it came back with a different host. richard was always the best

  • The series with Ray Combs came in late 80's, the gap wasnt that big. I believe the "combs" series were between 87 and 94 if I'm not mistaking.

  • Ray Combs version ran from 1988-1994.

  • This was the last show of the original run on ABC in 1985. Family Feud would not return to TV until July 4th, 1988 with Ray Combs. The official first run was 1976-1985. Second run 1988-1995 (Combs/Dawson return) Current run 1999-present.

  • bah i wasn't even alive in the 80's but this makes me want to cry for some reason.

  • Listen to the answers to see how the world has changed so much. Mothers made kids wear mittens scarfs etc. etc. and onbly 2 people said seatbelts. Today, they make kids wear bicycle helmets, knee pads, mouth guards....it's sad how the world has changed, and not for the better.

  • Beijingolympics, just because Richard is retired doesn't mean he's dead.

  • He's not dead...they have him cryogenically frozen with Ted Williams and Walt Disney, and Elvis, and they are going to thaw them out when the economy is better!

  • Has anyone heard anymore of when The Best of Family Feud (which will include this finale) will be released on DVD? My guess is that this coming January, exactly one year after All-star Family Feud came out.

  • Dawson is 75 years old and is retired. :)

  • At 8:00 She should have answered. Condoms!

  • I meant at 4:08

  • is that genes voice?

  • Does anyone know how long the standing ovation lasted for dawson's 1985 feud finale please let me know..

  • Just out of curiosity, how old is Richard today? (Dawson that is)

  • He is 75 and still alive. He is the only surviving 'regular' from the 70's version of "Match Game."

  • It would be nice to see him host the show again with his theme!

  • I wish that they would at least bring Richard back as a guest host for one taping of Family Feud. The ratings for that show would no doubt be through the roof!

  • I saw a documentary about that. They were going to have him make an appearance when Louie Anderson began hosting, but Richard didn't want to show up.

  • What year did they bring back the show with Ray Combs?

  • 20 years ago...July 4, 1988.

  • This show is coming back, and with celebrities, but no Richard Dawson :(

  • Second best game show ever next to Price is Right, with Dawson's slobbery kisses on every female contestant.

  • Richard can't complain he had a good 9 years of Family Feud including the SEPTEMBER family in 1980.

  • Richard Dawson did a superb job hosting Family Feud for 9 years on ABC and syndication from 1976-1985. The minute long standing ovation was very gracious for his final show. Was always kissing the ladies on the show in such a funny way. He was a fun and classy host to watch.

  • o boy :(

    Last '85 episode

I've got a family feud game on my computer.

  • A state you can recognize by its shape, try Florida!

  • Family Feud has bee revived by CBS 38 months later with Ray Combs.

  • I love his pinky ring

  • thermal underwear LOL

  • Batman wears it.

  • stop spamming jacko503q843 that comment had nothing to do with family feud 85 finale

  • You mean about the show?

  • No I don't but, their are probably some Game show traders that may have it.

  • Did they really let him go; because he was showing affection and kissing the women...

  • @SHAUNERDANIEL No, I think it had something to do with the ratings. The kissing issue was raised in the first season, I think. He said he would stop if the viewers wanted him to. So there was this letter writing campaign, with the majority of the letters saying they liked the kissing, so it continued on. To me, it was no big deal. Besides, a good 90% of the women seemed to like it.

  • This was the best version. Even the announcer was the centerpiece. Always telling those families they were ready for action, and getting on their marks, set, and ready to play!

  • Richard Dawson WAS Family Feud. No other host could have holden a candle to Richard's hosting talents.

  • There was a "Pilot" previous to the 1976 ABC debut of this show. Dawson hosted it, and Johnny Olson was the announcer. The set was also different - weird looking. I believe it aired in '75. I've been looking all over youtube for it, and no one seems to have it. If anybody has this, or knows where it is, please let me know! Thanks! RICHARD DAWSON FOREVER!!!

  • That man in the front row with white hair seen applauding, is that Mark Goodson? It looks like him at the 40 second mark wearing a brownish-tan colored jacket and a white shirt. You can see him a little better at the 1 minute mark.

  • June 14th, 1985. The end of an era. Some of the best gameplay by the Mackins. It's too bad Richard didn't joke around as much (excluding this episode for obvious reasons) towards the end of the run as he had prior to the this season. He seemed tired and rushed and perhaps he was due to the $400 scoring format put into place at the beginning of the 9th year.

  • ABC should of kept Family Feud on a little longer. I liked Ray Combs version a lot but Richard Dawson version is the best. Even when it was moving a little slow it was good.ABC haven't had a Game Show again until Match Game 1990 which lasted 1 year. And after that nothing.

  • Actually their last one was Monopoly. I'm seroius...research it.

  • Didn't Monopoly come on in Primetime?

I'm talking about Daytime Game Shows.

  • Ahh...my fault. At least someone knew that existed besides me. *phew*

  • It's ok Squirrel3D

At the end of it's 13 weeks Mike Reilly said,"See you next season".It's been 17 years.Hope he's not waiting. LOL

  • I think the Last Daytime Game Show on ABC was the 1990 Revival of Match Game but I could be wrong

  • Ironically, Bert Convy was slated to host the 1990 revival of Match Game and I remember seeing a pilot with him hosting. But he fell sick after he was diagnosed with a brain tumor and couldn't host. Ross Shaffer took over as host.

  • Should HAVE!

  • Nevada, Oklahoma are states that are recognized by their shape?? Come on...

  • Once ABC cancelled "Familky Feud," ABC would flounder in the daytime game show market from 1985-until after they canned "Match Game" (1990-91 version w/ Ross Shafer), in which point ABC was the first network to throw in the towel with daytime GS's for good.

  • Richard Dawson... What an amazing man. The best Family Feud host ever, and my favorite panelist on Match Game. So sweet how he got emotional during that show... But no wonder he did! Such great times on that show, I'm sure he had... From "SEPTEMBER" to some other whacky answers... Legendary... And Richard Dawson's got it all. SURVEY SAYS... WE LOVE YOU, RICHARD!

  • Don't forget the 3-letter Alligator as well.

  • LMAO! Man, was that classic! :)

  • bam for remember for family feud best game show host our survey saysssssssss RICHARD DAWSON

  • it's all about richard dawsom...I LOVE HIM!!!

  • Did the term "protection" mean something different in 1985? I thought one of the answers would be "helmet."

  • As a child of the 1980s, not many (if any at all) kids were wearing helmets yet when bike riding. That became more prevelent in the Safety Nazi '90s.

  • Richard Dawson,RULES!!!

  • Yes I totally agree Richard will always be known as the King of Family Feud.Ole Ray Comb can't hold a candle to RD.

  • Gene got it on the nose. The people love Richard.

I do not CARE if FF is still on the air. The ORIGINAL Family Feud was the best.

  • I agree!

  • No argument from me.

  • Thanks!
