It's 97% fir. Takes to much bleaching to make pulp out of it. Very few pulp mills left here on the bc coast and with all the beetle kill wood there is an overabundance of pulp in bc. All the pulp I'm cutting now is being exported to you guys in the states. We never take wood below a 4 inch top anyways. Not cost efficient to handle much smaller wood.
Ive been trying for a year and a half to get on to a processor or a Log Loader. I have of related experence, with similar machines and have run skidder in the past, but do you think anyone will give me a shot at it ? Nope. Getting a little discouraged. any ideas on how to land a job ?
Nice vid mate. You're doing good there; smooth, no wasted movement, and neat stacks. There's always about 5 million super-loggers on youtube that could all do it much better of course tho! Nice wood you're in there by the looks of it. From Tasmania- Hump Lumber!!
@Madill3800c you should be asking how do I learn to get real good on a Waratah and then I can get top wages like this guy, then you can be making these YouTube videos instead of watching them. w w w.simlog.com/pdf/gordon-vaughan. pdf
@Madill3800c no, you have to learn to process fast and efficient. Loading the wood onto a truck is easy, I would like to learn to read species, sorts, and lengths in about 5 seconds, and knowing the latest Waratah head updates and LogRite software. Then, and only then, will logging companies be coming to YOU for work, not the other way around. If you can do this with 98% accuracy or better, you have top wages for life in logging, and still you could run a butt-n-top, kicking your feet back.
@gangesexcavating dont know how to respond to that with out sounding like a snob, so im flat out agree with u on that the only problem with logging now is there no sustanability an the rates arnt there an the trucks arnt there
@Madill3800c well I know Im gold mining north of Mackenzie right now, making good money doing but its snowed out come october. Was in logging roadbuilding on the coast up until 3 months ago. There is a zillion hoe operators and log loader operators are 1 step above. The future of coastal logging in BC IS 2nd growth cut-lo-length processing, and I need to go to school and learn to log scale fast and efficient to read your maximum log value, then train on a newest Waratah and learn to run WELL
hey bro love the vid u like ur 2054? were trying to find one here cause what im runing rite now cat 320c with a 622b is struggling in the oversize fir
Its a 2554 and I love it.The new Deer 2954 with dual swing drives would be better. The 2554 only has one swinger, fine for a hoe but no good for a log loader
Cries for what? obviously, these wood planted in tree farm, it is just product from plantation as same purpose as people rearing calves for meat or feeding chooks for eggs.
Looks kind of familiar, check out my video, search processorpete

You must have really shitty pulp mills where you from. They take all species around here. Shame to waste that much wood.
idahologger25 10 months ago
You guessed it. Timberwest private lands. Unfortunately pulp mills dont take fir
madmancivic 1 year ago
Must be for Timberwest, never seen so much waste. You could supply a pulp mill just off YOUR wasted pile alone.

Nice vid.
Does that processor head measure the diameter? Or do you just watch close and cut it off when it's small enough?
