For the record, I'm pretty ok with 144000 representing ethnic Israel/OT Judaism, and the crowd Gentile believers, but I'm not convinced it needs to be a literal number, or by the oft associated futurist/millennialist theology.
I don't understand what the narrator is saying at 0:55 when it says futurist readings treat Revelation the same grammatically as the rest of scripture. Ignoring the fact that they offer no reason for this and simply take it as read, I don't think ANYONE reads all of Scripture with the same grammatical tools, because Scripture is made up of different text types....

The Jews are only one of the 12 tribes of Israel. Only 12,000 Jews (from the tribe of Judah) will be sealed. The rest will be from the other 11 tribes of Israel (not Jews). Just wanted to help clear that detail up.

May I recommend the book "the dilusion of god" so you people can reach a 7 year olds level in knowledge regading biology, evolution and facts. Fairytales are for smaller kids. This debate died a hundred years ago.

The theory of evolution is a theory and not a fact. The cambric explosion which is part of this theory disproves it and reveals the theory of evolution as the most inconsistent fairytale I have ever heard about.
You should not parrot scientific confusion. Instead you should reach your so called "7 year olds level in knowledge" by using your own mind.

The theory of evolution is a proven well beyond doubt within all scientific fields. Biology and geology as well as philosophical questions are answered. Today, the only thing not entirelly understood is the mechanisms which drives the evolution. But there are interesting theories even to this.
There are practically no scientists or intellectuals worldwide who believes in any god. If you study some science instead of just reading the religous book of your choice you won't too.

"Expelled - no intelligence allowed" this movie is excellent in professing the truth around this issue of creation vs. evolution. please check it out, it is a neutral investigation.

And one doesn't have to be a Christian to realise this. It is a theory and most of all it is a dogma, and every biologist who dares to question this dogma gets annihilated,

@Anon4280 The 144,000 Jews will be sealed AFTER the Rapture. They could be alive now, it all depends on when the Rapture happens. They certainly are NOT dead. Born Again Christians are chosen (elect) BEFORE the Creation of the world. 1Peter 1:1-2; Ephesians 1:4-5; 1:11-12. As we accept Christ as our Savior, we are then sealed, having fulfilled our election. The 144,000 will preach the Gospel, because all the FAITHFUL Christians are gone. The Christians left behind were living in sin

If you are going to pluck out these people and acknowledge them as real and forthcoming, how are you then gonna disregard all the bible says about them? What gives you such power as to prophesy beyond what John, the Revelator saw when all this was revealed to him by the almighty himself?

@EqualAndFree - No I put the 1999 study in a completely different category than the Bible. I'm not arguing with the results of the study, as far as it goes - but it's 12 years later now. Actually I think the culture is much worse morally now than then - so much for "evolving".

@EqualAndFree - Interesting but 1999 is a long time ago. Did they also count the atheists who never married legally? The rate of marriage is much lower now than previously. Our culture's erosion of moral values has taken a toll. Movies telling us we have the right to be "in love" with no conflict don't help.

@EqualAndFree - You are incorrect about the numbers. Unfortunately divorce is about equal among evangelical Christians and "others". Should not be so - not practicing what they "believe". But no one said becoming a Christian takes away all human's sin tendencies. We are all works in progress, being conformed to the nature of Jesus Christ. Sadly, our culture teaches pure selfishness - Me, Me, Me.

144,000 is a time stamp.....6 literal days = 144 hours....Now read 2 Peter 3:8 .....6000 days = 6000 X 24 hours = 144,000 hours

The Jehovah's Witnesses or Taze Russell taught that the entire JW congregation would be among the 144,000. When their numbers exceeded 144,000, they "had new light". That is when the caste system was set up. This actually worked in their favor since the governing body all claim to be part of that group and thereby justifying their authority.
