There is a metallica demo Horsemen of the Apocalypse including songs Ride the Lightning and When the Hell Freezes Over (Call of Ktulu). /watch?v=h1rdk6Df7dc Here is the link. Singer is James Hetfield but on Lead and Rhythm Guitar plays Mustaine. And it was BEFORE Hammett joined Metallica. Kirk just done some minor changes on solo but it sound nearly the same. well they change the tempo up on kirk thats why hes messing up in the album hes playing about as fast as he can for the solos but live metallica speeds up the tempo and he cant play faster then he did on the album if he was playing his fastest so he has to improv lots of solo stuff and its rediculously hard to play it note for note it its 1/4 faster

The bit from 0:25 onwards is usually improvisation anyway when he plays live. He stated himself that most of the solos he changes when he plays live to add some variety.

Actually the demos of ride the lightning were recorded when kirk was already in the band, and if you know a bit about dave's guitar playing you'll recognize that RTL solo has nothing to do with him, and by the way, kirk ripped dave's solos on kill em all exclusively

Dude, that ain't mustaine on that track. That song is from the Ride the Lightning Demo Tape which Kirk played on. Kirk wrote this solo. And that is James singing, not Dave. The four horsemen first solo was kirk's first solo that he wrote for metallica. He wrote every single solo on Ride the Lightning. Dave Mustaine contributed two riffs/chord progressions to RTL, one is the Spider Chord in RTL and the other is the chord prog in COTK, which he later used in Hangar 18
