A big mistake on BCTV's part to go generic with the Global name. Now that CHBC in Kelowna is joining Global on Sept. 1, that gives Global two outlets in the Kelowna area (CHBC itself and a BCTV rebroadcaster), this would be a good time for Global to quit using generic IDs for all its stations and go back to what worked for them before 1997 (the year they first went with generic Global branding), when they used individual station identities instead of what they use now.
I don't mind the one generic name because then they would just use the call letters like CKND TV Winnipeg except global bc which would probably go back to bctv and in reality chbc would use the it's call letters like chek did before it went into the ch and e brands
Uh. that's supposed to be the point. Those stations should go back to using individual identities (i.e. BCTV, CKND, etc.) to distinguish them from each other. By going generic with the same name for all stations, all Global stations (and this applies to CTV too) come off looking the same and give the appearance of being more like a superstation.
That was when the actors were negotiating the contracts (or slightly before that), and there was talk that the show might not continue past that season. They eventually came to a deal, so the show lasted till 2004.
The other CTV affiliates not owned by CTV at this time were CHEK Victoria, CITL Lloydmister, CKY Winnipeg, CJBN Kenora, CHFD Thunder Bay, and CFCF Montreal (and, if you want to stretch it, CJON St. John's). Today, only CITL, CJBN, and CHFD remain, and the only CTV programs CJON still carries are news.

I appreciate how great our tema is in B.C. and I'm positive that everyone on Global is great too. I much prefer Global than CTV

Little did Kevin Newman know that he'd be putting in a lot of overtime himself in his new studio just under 2 weeks later.
