It made some sense; after all, salt is a very valuable resource in real life, and in its commercial iodized form, it combats the disgusting disease that is goiter. They exaggerate it here, but it really isn't that much of a stretch to attack an enemy base just to steal their salt.

@sparton1337 Well, I suspect it might have something to do with the design of the Gundam's joints. See, the Gundam was unique among the other front-line mobile suits at the time in that it's joints used a new material called "magnet coating", which acted as a sort of lubricant for the Gundam's joints so it could articulate more smoothly, therefore providing greater mobility. Basically, Frau's lifting the Gundam's finger was like opening a 1-ton steel door with well-greased hinges.

But then again, that would only work if she moved the Gundam's finger horizontally. Moving it vertically like that would be the equivalent to lifting a whole torpedo with one hand, which would still require Herculean strength. So yeah.
