  • Alright, yall gotta admit. His bass tapping lesson sucks but his actual ability is the shit. That tap he did towards the end was pretty good.

  • Does someone have the tab for this piece?

  • Worst bass lesson ever! You don't need two fingers to press a string down.

  • i don't like him...

  • You rock dude.

  • awsome

  • super helpful!!! thanks

  • u look like Dimebag..

  • the hook is useless to me. i guess im just a badass! LOL

  • I had that same bass

  • Why waste fingers doubling up? Although the finished result was pretty good this guy is teaching poor technique. Use one finger per string so you can play up to three different strings with both hands at any given time.

  • what a bad ass

  • U ROCK YEA

Can you send me the tab or where do you get it

  • SLAM THIS FINGER DOWN

  • :| wow

  • @GaryNull sometimes...

  • dude i love that song woulkd u mind sending me the notes? :)

  • great playing

  • my friend has the same bass. Yamaha, right?

  • pretty cool : )

  • ITS GOOD FOR METAL

  • Whatever works for you dude. I use D'AD ProSteels and i have no problem tapping with one finger, and they are some of the roughest strings out there

  • Yeah, I only tap with one finger

  • god is that jack black voice?

  • o_o

  • this guy needs to stop, lol, i tap with one finger all the time. shouldn't teach what your not good at, lol.

  • @clarksouter...LOL Victor Wooten is a monster bassist. He has more skill in his pinkie finger than you have in your entire body.

  • ok i know this is a bach piece but lesten to the song last rites loved to deth

  • huh, i have that same exact bass. RBX170 with just the split pick ups.

  • @rockerbackes

my has the strings on the other side. But in the end its the same bass too...

  • @clarksouter Victor Wooten taps...he has no groove? That's a joke...you fail

  • dont listen to this guy.

1 finger is strong enough with some practice

  • you'r right...

  • but you can do it either way. there is no "wrong" way. unless of course it affects what your playing in a negative way.

  • @rockerbackes

true, but its like learning to ride your bike with sideweels without ever learning how to ride without them.

sure you can do most stuff with 1 finger, but when you want to try and do the very tech stuff, you'll need more then 1

  • @geganobo yeah, i actually use both fingers seperatly

  • @geganobo yeah seriously :/ he is slightly full of shit lol

  • @geganobo

    DONT LISTEN TO THIS GUY.

    Do what feels comfortable!

    Try for yourself!

  • @geganobo lol This guy just has weak fingers.

  • Nice Job!!

  • chuchetumare!!!

  • right, this is going for clark and captain, your argument is kinda crappy (well clarksouter's arguement), 1, to play world class, you don't need qualification, you need to be able to play, and well, qualifications just make you more eligible. 2, if you where an amazing band with great music and ratings from public, you not going to get turned down, 3, all they people care about, is can you play or not people arnt going to say "no qualification . . . you crap"

  • you dont actually have to do that claw thing with your fingers, unless for somereason your bass has a high action or tight strings, never the less, good video

  • yeah... great "lesson"...

  • i mean nice £50 bass x

  • nice £50 guitar

  • tabs please :)

  • the "two finger" or "meaty hook" method of bass tapping isn't really necessary imo

  • i wont leave the bass off my hands till i play it thx dude

  • This guy seems pretty good, but at the same time I agree with the critique l3ftov3rblunts gave of his technique. I NEVER press one finger on top of the other to tap, and I know how to tap. You can check out my live videos if you don't believe me. I welcome all critique, good and bad!

  • That was my reply to clarksouter, below.

  • Yes, but you don't teach anything in this video. Fail.

  • sounds like you need to do some exercises. = P using 2 fingers to hold down one fret limits your ability to us all four fingers when tapping, which really comes in handy if you want elaborate riffs.

  • awesome man

  • Oh yeah , that is gonna get you a bunch of work! Learn some songs on your bass you can play with a band and you won't have deliver pizza for a living!

  • Oh, yeah- approach your playing the same way you'd approach a 9 to 5 office job: "How can I make the most money?" Don't put your heart and soul into your playing- don't play what YOU want to play, rather, play what OTHER PEOPLE (like Clark Souter) want you to play. Then when you reach age 40, blow your fucking brains out with a 12-guage, because you've never done anything you love your entire life, and you have no ARTISTIC accomplishment to be proud of.

    No thank you.

  • Well , I see quite a few players on Los Angeles who paint it black and white like that , but I have two music degree's and can play with a shit-load of chops and I realized that there is a place in between novel virtuosity and the true musical function of the bass as a foundation of the overtone series in all music and what that entails. And I think you can do both if you want. I have toured and recorded with ten major label bands over the years and sometimes I play songs I hate.

  • Virtuosity is one of the functions of the bass. It just is. When people see a bassist who's actually even HALF as good as the other members of the band, they are in awe. When they see one who is equally as good, then their jaws literally drop. Why is that? It's because of the exact attitude you're expressing when you speak of the "function of the bass as a foundation...." As long as people continue to say things like this, YOUR instrument will not get the respect it deserves.

  • Virtuosity is not playing a bunch of notes. It is just playing whatever you do at the highest level. which for me as a pro player is playing the right notes with the right articulation and the right tone to make a piece of music sound perfect. And my instrument is respected, it is why I played 180 gigs last year , had a great time with it , and was payed well for it. Bass tapping is a bit of a novelty , a fun thing to do but not very functional in the big picture of making music.

  • Virtuosity is NOT "playing whatever you do at the highest level." This is an egalitarian excuse to make less skilled musicians feel good about themselves. Virtuosity is, in fact, being able to play at a high level of technical excellence; this does not mean that a virtuoso is always superior to a non-virtuoso. There are many virtuosos who don't know how to play music, who only know how to be an acrobat on an instrument. And your assertion that bass tapping is a novelty is just your opinion.

  • @clarksouter Hey, you really need a confidence boost- please, don't be modest, you should brag a bit more & put yourself out there, don't put yourself down man- your good at your instrument & should tell us more about your qualifications & how well your doing, we're all eager to hear. Qualifications mean nothing to me, or any other true musician, all that matters is that you do what you like, play from your soul, what sounds good to you, even if its not suited to the taste of those around you.

  • Listen, make fun of my qualifications but realize they legitimize my point of view, even if you disagree with it. What qualifies you to spout the arrogant idea that you know what makes a true musician. Do you have significant experience or education to say such things? And if you want to play in obscurity by your-self you need nothing to qualify you. But if you ever aspire to play with the world class music community of ANY style (rock, classical, whatever) you will need qualifications.

  • Hey, if you read this properly, you would see that I'm not making fun of your "qualifications" I merely think that you must be pretty insecure if you feel the need to constantly brag about them. Thats pretty ignorant if you think you need qualifications (unless you mean sitting at home & practicing rather than degrees or anything of the sort, although you made it pretty clear that you meant academic qualifications) to play with world class musicians.

  • No, I mean any significant experience of playing. Not just education. Your qualifications could be having toured or recorded with someone famous and respected. And when I talk to someone here I tell of my experience and education because it shows my opinion comes from knowledge. It legitimizes my view, agreed with or not. In the big picture the guys who do "Bass Tapping" can't play a groove to save their soul(9 out of 10 times) and being able to groove is what 98% of music is about.

  • ah, fair enough- sorry about me being a dick; I understand more now, but I still think qualifications wouldn't need to be playing with big names, they could still be something like playing for x amount of years, or a good range of skills.

  • Yeah, well you just have to have done something well that shows you can play with a certain level of situation. I agree. No harm no foul. Just spirited discussion.

    Cheers

  • @clarksouter, one problem with what you said "In the big picture the guys who do "Bass Tapping" can't play a groove to save their soul" that is a complete piece of bull just to let you know =]

  • Line up twenty pro bass players who play a variety of styles well and line up 20 guys who are really good at "Bass tapping" and have them play a few simple grooves with a drummer. Between them(tone and feel) the difference will be huge. I know it. You may not agree but I really do know this is true.

  • look around youtube, theres quite alot of people who tap and are good at groove, the only way people arnt good at groove is if they only practice tap, but the majority will tap to add on to there playing, like me . . .

  • Yeah, really? How many are playing with a band and grooving on a real song instrumental or vocal? Almost none.

    Check it out.

  • well, some that i know are dead now and others i dont know the names of band, well rather i forgot because i don't listen to English music much (language English) anyhow, wtf is your problem your like some really stressed out person that has to be right and knows everything and them sorta people don't do well

  • Also, music degrees (or any other type of degrees) don't impress me. Being a good musician (which you might be) impresses me. Most musicians come out of these schools having lost focus of the reason they started pursuing music to begin with. They see the "career" as the goal, at any artistic cost. And some things are black and white, and some are gray. I've played music I hate before too. I don't have the connections to get into many signed bands, though. I guess I'm not with the "in crowd".

  • I can tell you have never been to any music college of any kind or you would not say such a silly thing. Music school makes you a better player on every level. You just have to authenticate all the tools you are given there by playing tons when you leave school. Its not the only path to great playing but special one for overall musicianship and your instrument.

  • I don't have to go to music schools, Clark; I see their products. I know more guys who sit in their basements playing great guitar than I do music school graduates who do. But all of these educated graduates are able to talk with a big ego. That seems to be the common benefit they've all received from their official and costly instruction. I also think it's funny that you call my comment "silly". My observations of reality are sound, and getting hostile is not going to make you right.

  • Guitar Center seems to be a popular career placement for Berkeley graduates.

  • I have that same bass! Unfortunatly mine had a lot of fret buzzing when i first opened it. i only recently fixed it with several truss rod adjustments. nice playing!!

  • looks like james franco with long hair...

  • Amazing peice of skill...

  • Holy crapola!!!

  • Wow, you have some great skill there!!!

But spice up your video!!! It's sooo mellow!

  • someone knows the name of that bass,or series?

  • brutal dude. thanks

  • ~~Thank You.

  • nice

  • nice...

  • god good .. am soooo playing this in my next gig !

thanks dude for the vid !

  • You know what else I use my big ol' meaty hook for?

  • HAAAAAAAAAAAA

  • awesome stuff!

but personally, I actually prefer using just one finger, not that thing with the middle finger and the index finger joined together..

  • sounds fucking AWESOME!!!!

  • BACH ON BASS!!!!!! AWESOME!

  • tabs please?

great lesson btw, and awesome playing.

  • great video pal

  • so you tap then you pull the string to play the note that the left hand is in right?

  • ROCK OUT WITH YOUR MEATY HOOK OUT

  • LMAO!

  • thats sh, must not use double finger, just there hawe week finger LOL but the restt are ok..

  • This was a great lesson. Thank you very much.

I'm having trouble with the part where it goes 1, 5, 1 on the D string or the part that goes 3, 7, 3 on the same string. I guess it's just practice, although I guess it'd help if you had long ass fingers.

  • thats the shittiest bass i have ever played. it was my first bass, and im tellin you, the yamaha rbx170 is the epitome of shit

  • niun brillo tu wea de tapping tocay como el pico

  • i cant seem to find a tab for this song on bass. anyone know where i could?

  • I do

  • Hahahahah!

  • HAHAH

  • wuts the name of hat peice he played at the end?

  • Fugue in D minor

  • Nice work.

People should try using one finger to tap as well, as it makes speed easier sometimes. Two fingers seems to work damn well here though so try both options!!

    /m/

  • meaty hook! haha he's a meaty hooker

  • you definitely dont need to use two fingers for one note. thats just a waste of an extra finger. if it is too hard to press to the fret try lowering the bridge adjustments or adjusting the intention.

  • I tab with only my index, sounds good and its simple too. But I see that two fingers works fine with you so keep up the good work =)

  • Who knows were I can find the entire fugue in d minor on bass tapping?

  • ultimate guitar has the tab for guitar pro.

  • Thanks man, but I am looking for the audio. :/

  • fuck

  • bach is god

  • is George's brother of Cannibal Corpse xD

  • i must have replayed it a thousand times to watch him play the piece at full speed.... amazing

  • this guy knows what hes doing this is just awesome great details i mean one thing that most people forget to mention and he mentioned it is that you should put the middle finger on top of the index finger as it gives more strength on the bass strings

  • hey why do u have to pluck the string when u let go of the string after tapping it

and if u have like strong fingers or something is it alright to tap with one finger or is the "meaty hook" more accurate and clean or wat

  • u pluck it so you let the other sound ring out (since u dont have the help of a pick now), if u just tap it without plucking the string the next sound will be very weak or absent

    and the meaty hook.... idk

  • nice work on the 4 months reply

  • np :)

  • That was extremely helpful... This is exactly what I was looking for.

  • song : bach toccata and fugue ....

    i love this song ...

  • Thanks for the lesson =)

  • gotta love a good ol' Yamaha RBX! I have the 170 in metallic blue, love that sucker lol!

and Bach, good choice, and VERY well played! And the Fugue is a great choice

  • LOL MEATY HOOK!!!!!!!!!!!!!

  • Did you have the tab of that song? if yes can you post here it??plaease????

  • That would be so awesome. I think I'm going to try and learn it from watching the video very slowly but a tab would just be so great.

  • you are the singer of cannibal corpse :D

  • holy fuck that was awsome great job that takes real talent

  • you're a beast bro, you should do Hall of the Mountain King on bass hahaha :)

  • thanks canadaka17 ;)

  • what's the name of the song?

  • Fugue in D minor originally composed by J.S. Bach

  • dude nice video whats the tabs for this hit me back up with the tabs please

  • I ask for them too
