This 91% will decrease by 9% of itself if it melts, meaning that, volume wise, there will be an 82.16% of the water volume in the ocean if the polar Ice caps melt. This percentage melting will lower the sea level attributed by ice by 9%...

You would be aware that approximately 400 yrs ago we had a mini ice age a period known as the Maunder Minimum (I think) This should have increased ice and snow coverage and hence reduced ocean level. That aside I remember seeing photos of a mark on rocks at a coastal location where the water line had decreased dramatically from what it was decades earlier.

You're mixing up your facts. A piece of ice will displace a volume of water with mass equivalent to the mass of ice. Once the ice melts, the water level is still the same. In reality, melting icebergs will actually raise sea level, because the ocean is not fresh water like the ice.
Even if global warming isnt real, the fact of the matter is: Being wasteful is inefficient!
Riding your bike is less expensive than driving (and helps tone your flabby buttocks) Recycling litter will help the environment (and make your neighborhood nicer), etc

the water expands BECAUSE its denisity decreases when freezed which leads to increase in VOLUME(size). density = mass/ volume
WEIGHT is measured by MASS times gravitational acceleration (on earth, approx 10m/s^2) so it depends on how big the size of water/ice u wanna talk about. 10KG of ice & 20KG of steam can exist.
when the ice is gone, yes a decrease in water level, but the ice isnt gone it melts&turns to water, adding its amount to the sea, thus more water > higher water level.
I thought that matter that cools becomes more dense, same amount of matter in a smaller space, and heated matter expands? We use liguid nitrogen to contract steel and heat to expand it when installing press fit sleeves and bearings. I can see some expansion occuring because of the air bubbles that get caught in ice but the air bubbles are not ice. Air bubbles is what give the ice sheets thier white color? Are there different rules for hydrogen and oxygen molecules than that of iron? Thanks.

however as you can observe for yourself it's a fact that ice has a lesser density because it floats (not even suspending in the middle) on water instead of sinking. and according to the laws, the fomular for density is
mass = volume x density
so volume had to increase for density to get lower, when the mass is remained constant.
I wonder if there is a way or anyone has frozen water in a vacuum to get the air out. Even that ice below the artic they show us, on tv, the beautiful blueish clear ice has air in it. But when you put a high enough vacuum on water it boils. Then again freezing water makes snow flakes and that is a pretty amazing phenomenon that doesn't occur with all other liquids as they freeze. Water crystalizes as it freezes and expansion may be related to that effect.

Then bring it back to your house and dump it down the sink! This could lower the sea level and stop the flooding of continents! Place lots of ice in a glass then fill it to the very top with water. After the ice is all melted notice that the water level has not risen - not a drop over flowed. Thats because ice is a crystal - mainly air - the melting of the ice caps doesn't cause seas to rise. Get some schooling fools!

You would be aware that approximately 400 yrs ago we had a mini ice age a period known as the Maunder Minimum (I think) This should have increased ice and snow coverage and hence reduced ocean level. That aside I remember seeing photos of a mark on rocks at a coastal location where the water line had decreased dramatically from what it was decades earlier.

The sea rose 8 inches the last century, it, with the current melting of the ice caps, should rise another another foot by 2050. At the rate,most of south florida, including the florida keys, will be under water. By the end of the 21st century, it will probably have risen a meter.
How do I know this? I'm 20, and majoring in Environmental Science. Going to the beach doesnt count for anything. You can drive a car for fifty years, but does that mean you know how to build one?

You're mixing up your facts. A piece of ice will displace a volume of water with mass equivalent to the mass of ice. Once the ice melts, the water level is still the same. In reality, melting icebergs will actually raise sea level, because the ocean is not fresh water like the ice.

Whilst I am for protecting the environment and reducing polution. C02= 0.038% of the atmosphere, of that human activity accounts for 5-6%. Do themaths and realise how much effect we have compared to oceans which are effected by olar activity variations. Other planets and moons within the solar system have a similar warming trend. Think of it this way if you put a bottle of water in a freezer, the water in the bottle actually expands rather than contracts. Which would mean if all the worlds ice caps melted the sea levels in our oceans would decrease. Ice weighs more than Water.

the water expands BECAUSE its denisity decreases when freezed which leads to increase in VOLUME(size). density = mass/ volume
WEIGHT is measured by MASS times gravitational acceleration (on earth, approx 10m/s^2) so it depends on how big the size of water/ice u wanna talk about. 10KG of ice & 20KG of steam can exist.
when the ice is gone, yes a decrease in water level, but the ice isnt gone it melts&turns to water, adding its amount to the sea, thus more water > higher water level.

I thought that matter that cools becomes more dense, same amount of matter in a smaller space, and heated matter expands? We use liguid nitrogen to contract steel and heat to expand it when installing press fit sleeves and bearings. I can see some expansion occuring because of the air bubbles that get caught in ice but the air bubbles are not ice. Air bubbles is what give the ice sheets thier white color? Are there different rules for hydrogen and oxygen molecules than that of iron? Thanks.

however as you can observe for yourself it's a fact that ice has a lesser density because it floats (not even suspending in the middle) on water instead of sinking. and according to the laws, the fomular for density is
mass = volume x density
so volume had to increase for density to get lower, when the mass is remained constant.

I wonder if there is a way or anyone has frozen water in a vacuum to get the air out. Even that ice below the artic they show us, on tv, the beautiful blueish clear ice has air in it. But when you put a high enough vacuum on water it boils. Then again freezing water makes snow flakes and that is a pretty amazing phenomenon that doesn't occur with all other liquids as they freeze. Water crystalizes as it freezes and expansion may be related to that effect.

Does the data supporting this include the equalizing effect of isostasy on the sea floor (as accepted for land masses) in measuring the rate of sea level rise? The isostatic effect should nearly have a 1/3 drop ratio of the sea floor, since the added water is only about 1/3 the mass of displaced sea floor rock, which is ultimately displaced out under the land masses and decreases the sea level rise by 1/3 of the expected measurement. P.S. I don't work for an oil company.

Lots of these people are just complaining and telling facts about our dangerous rise in sea level, but I've got an idea that will actually make a difference: On October 10, 2008, everybody who lives near the ocean, go outside with a bucket and pick up some water out of the ocean. Then bring it back to your house and dump it down the sink! This could lower the sea level and stop the flooding of continents! It is now at 16.17 million sq. km.
The old record is 16.03 million sq. km
And the Antarctic is still growing.
According to Al Gore's predictions this wasn't supposed to happen.

I just returned from The Tongan Islands - the sea level is 2.2 to 3 meters lower than it used to be. The Indian Ocean is 300mm lower since 1975 & the real scientists predict a period of Global Cooling starting from about now...lol if you really want to do some research Google in "Hegelian Dialectic" & find out what Al Gore is really doing a strategy of control which even Hitler used

Global warming is such a hoax. There is not proof, only speculation without evidence. They say the temperatures are rising. Then, when you ask why it's so cold some days, they say it can have the opposite effect and make it cold out.
OK, so are we suffering from global warming and cooling at the same time? I guess that would even things out, right?

well if you don't believe in global warming, you can just go live on the coast for all i care. but don't come whyning to me when your house is flooded, cuz i show no mercy to idiots who deny hard solid fact: we cause global warming. yes, the earth heats and cools, but NOT at the rate it is now. so if you're so confident, go live near the water. for me? good ol' colorado!

Place lots of ice in a glass then fill it to the very top with water. After the ice is all melted notice that the water level has not risen - not a drop over flowed. Thats because ice is a crystal - mainly air - the melting of the ice caps doesn't cause seas to rise. Get some schooling fools!

wow...I think you need some more school. So we're not worried about the ice thats already in the water, we're worried about terrestrial ice shelves that go into the water when they melt. Do you know what terrestrial means? Land based ice...like greenland or antartica for example. So put your water in a cup then put ice on a shelf right above it so that when the ice melts the ice falls into the cup...that is what we're worried about.

Don't be concerned over global warming - Al Gore told congress about Australias 1000 year drought - its bewen raining down here for 3 months constantly - a quick 1000 years!Noone told him that the Indian Ocean dropped 1 foot in 1975 and hasnt come back - I just been to vanuatu and now Im off the Tonga (Pacific Ocean)& the sea levels havent changed a drop.RELAX - water changes form - liquid,ice,vapour plus you are made mainly of water yourself - so I hope you dont melt my friend. lol

Darned right debatable. FACT: "Global Warming" is directly to the sun. Ice caps on mars are melting, think our SUV's are doing that? What about ice core samples that point to the relationship of 'co2 levels' and the 'average temp' of earth, is totally opposite, and scientific fact. Gore still rides his plane, because he knows the truth. The carbon credits are a fraud to American people

if the ice melts into water >sea will go down because of surface area decrease and global warming isnt real THERE ISNT ENOUGH CO2 FOR THIS TO BE HAPPENING!! THE SEA MAKES MORE CO2 THAN MAN MADE BY LIKE 30 TIMES. plus in grenhouse gas chart water vapour>83% of it and co2> 5% so isnt water vapour causing glob warmin!?sea levels have been way higher b4 so has the temp 2000 yrs ago in medival times the temp was really! high! there was no cars and factories back there
