  • Whoa, you were a beginner when you filmed this? How long had you been training? From the perspective of a martial arts students and a spinner of things (fire poi, fire staff, etc.) your flow is beautiful. Well done. I would love to see you do some tutorials, at least for the basics of PTK.

  • @JerichoXtheXGangrel Thanks man. Well, I was training for approx. 1 year when I shot this, so I guess beginner is not exactly accurate... maybe novice might be better? I said that 'cause as you can see, I tend to pause quite a bit in several sequences 'cause I was "thinking too much" about the motion - In PTK all movements are suppose to be smooth and fluid.

  • @JerichoXtheXGangrel I actually created a new channel that'll be mainly about PTK. Look up DalawangGinunting channel. I might do some tutorials as you suggested. If you have anything specific you'd like to see, send me a message (in the DalawangGinunting channel). Peace! ^_^

  • What ginunting do you use?

  • @EBeamJoe It's a Charlie Porter ginunting trainer. ^_^

  • maayo bai! taga negros ng founder ana. I grew up in Negros Island (original name of the island was Buglas but the spanish re-named it because they saw aetas there)

  • Nice, both hands are involved. Usually one sees the so-called "weak hand" merely doing ones and twos; I saw reverses, broken, all the PTK stuff was expressed with both hands. Nice!

  • @digby72 Thank you! I'm glad you were able to spot that.

  • Great video. Your movements are very nice. Keep it up!

  • excellent technique!

  • Very good work, friend.

  • you may not know as much things if you are a beginner as you say, but what you can do like in this video, is done REALLY well!

  • @BushidoBudo9000 That's very encouraging, thank you! I practice whenever I can. It's how you get better, right? ^_^

  • Dude, you're underselling your skills. You don't move like a novice. Your carenza look pretty advanced to me, my friend. Those strikes and techniques are pretty solid! More power to PTK!

  • @bladesociety Thank you sir. I'm not a novice in kali in general since I've trained in other styles before. But in PTK, I guess I have a little more than a year and a half now? But you can tell from this vid, my footwork isn't quite there yet. I move a bit better now and will probably do a follow up vid soon. ^_^

  • beginning? how many years?

  • @thebugoutguy Maybe "beginner" isn't the best word... more than novice? lol. I was exposed to Pekiti-Tirsia in 2009. Sadly, I didn't really train (I was training in another style at the time). It wasn't until 2010 and meeting other PTK people that I really started to get serious about it.

  • Good form bro,keep it up !

  • @brijseeker Thanks!

  • Looking good Man keep it up... The foot work all comes with time if you ever get a chance check out the Atienza Group I cant say enough about their teaching very the the point and Tuhon is the best I have worked with... Good luck and keep training

  • @Chris1760 Thanks for the compliment and encouragement! I'm gonna do an updated vid at some point to see how I've progressed after a few months. Stay tuned! ^_^ I've checked out some Atienza vids... good stuff!

  • Looking good

  • Nice flow man!

  • Wow, you have pretty awesome flow o.o

  • @AimUser13 Thanks! Though, I'm still working on my footwork and coordination. I'll do another vid in a couple of months to show how I've progressed (by about the 6 month mark from the day this one was shot). Stay tuned!

  • @s3ksee You're welcome :D. Yeah i have a bit of problem with the footwork too lol.

  • smooth!!!! nice work!

  • So we just had a seminar here with Tim Waid. It was awesome! There were maybe 10 people at the seminar, so it was very hands on and very personal. Learned a lot. I'm finally picking up on the footwork lol

  • @face2facechick Right on! Mandala Tim is coming here to San Francisco in May. Yeah, he's a very hands on kind of instructor. I remember the first 2 of his seminars I attended of his there were like 40-50 people and he would pair up with each and every one and do the drills with us personally. He didn't just demo and shout commands, he really gets in there as well. If you struggled, he'd stay a while until you get it. I'm glad you had a chance to train with him!

  • Nice work, very inspiring. I only have a few months under my belt.

  • @wiaz123 Thanks! Glad you saw something positive in this vid. I was inspired by others doing the same thing, I guess that's how it goes. As of June 2011, I'd say I have now about 1 year of (focused) training in Pekiti Tirsia Kali... and my group's just gettin' started!

  • Good stuff... I would hardly call you a beginner though. Pekiti tirisa is awsome I have absolutly enjoyed the 6 months I have been doing it.

  • @Cryoc6 **bow** Much gratitudes. Everyone in my group who has under 1 year experience in PTK are all beginners. ^_^ Yes, I've been enjoying the training very much too. There's just something about it. Recently we've started really getting into 2 man flow drills and it's really awesome! The training format is always intense and challenging and we have a really good instructor. We are very fortunate to be learning this system.

  • @s3ksee I know what you mean, we are very fortunate to have the opertunity to learn PTK. My instructor had to travel all over to learn it... He didn't get it regularly. My instructor likes to change up the training frequently so we don't develop a linear thought process about ptk. I havn't done alot with the double stick within the ptk system yet. However single stick and knife and double knife are where we have spent the majority of our time so far.

  • Excellent.

  • Great stuff. This is the kind of videos that really give me the urge to grab my sticks and go out and play myself. Just a litle problem with the 3 feet of snow here..

Keep it up and I hope to see more!

  • @dogLRC Thank you for the kind words sir! You know what, screw the weather - Git out there and swing your weapons brotha! Build a snowman and beat the crap out of it like you would a tire dummy! Hahaha! We've trained under pouring rain and on muddy grounds. It's not the same as 3ft. of snow sure, but if you can maneuver and fight in snow, cold rain or slippery mud... imagine how much more deadly you can be in nicer weather! You gonna be one hardcore kaliman, dude! Mabuhay! ^_^

  • I also just started at the end of Jan of this year. HOw long have you been studying. You look pretty good for a beginner

  • @face2facechick Thanks! I "started" to primarily train in PTK around 5-6 months ago. Our instructor works us pretty hard in every class and Grand Tuhon wouldn't have it any other way. ^_^

  • @s3ksee how often do you go to class? Its kinda slim where I am. We only meet once a week for an hour 1/2. Most of it is practicing and learning on my own watching videos like yours

  • @face2facechick how often do you go to class? Its kinda slim where I am. We only meet once a week for an hour 1/2. Most of it is practicing and learning on my own watching videos like yours. You give me hope that I might be this good in 6 months lol

  • @face2facechick I just realized you posted twice. lol. So I'll just add this - when practicing solo, you can also try doing free-flow on your own, slowly at first then gradually speed up as you become more comfortable with your techniques and footwork. It's all basically shadowboxing, right? It's nice to put together all those drills you and make them come "alive." I think it helps a lot, so I encourage you to try it. Happy training!

  • Arriba el PEKITI TIRSIA... Saludos desde España

  • @javiermkg Hola hermanos! Greetings from San Francisco!

  • looks good....keep at it!

  • @drklight2000 Thanks brotha.
