can you text on this phone.. or is it just email??? oo and does it have video recording? and can it be on vibrate or silent? sorry for all the questions im just trying to decide on what phone to get but i dont really know much about this one. they dont give a good description. overall, would you reccomend it?
The phone is fast and works really well.My only problem is that some of the menus are overly complicated, and the keyboard slides a little too easily. If your right handed and go to answer it quickly, it's easy to slide it without meaning to.
do you know if there is volume control for the ringer? verizon keeps telling me that the slider on the side is for ringer volume, but it only works for the earpiece?
i've been looking at phones for the past couple of weeks and its so hard to find everything i want. when i heard this didn't have wifi my heart broke. that would have sealed the deal for me getting this one =/
this is the phone i want to get, verizon showed me a list of possible upgrades and this phone is the one that i am looking forward to getting. overall is it a good phone? cuz i was thinking this phone, or the palm centro.
Just bought this phone...used to have a Treo 650 that I grew to hate (Locked up constantly).
I'm excited about the SMT5800; it's the "Right size", the "Right Features" (Fast viewable internet, Outlook compatible, Usable keyboard, and word/excel/pdf files can be viewed and modified).
I looked at the new Treos and new Qs and hated the size and overall interface feel.
My Treo had me to the point of abandoning Smart phones for a small standalone portable.
The Only downside that I can think of (and unfortunately it's kind of a big one), is the battery life.
This phone can barely make it through the day on a charge. There is an extended life battery that makes the phone a bit bigger, I might have to get it someday.
Right now, I just use my car charger to keep it "Topped off".
Otherwise I like the size and functionality WAY BETTER than the Treo or Q.
Yes...and the speed is comparable with other wireless devices I have used. I did notice that in over a month of owning the ohone, I never had to reset because it locked up. Thsi was a common problem with my last phone. After using the internet for the first time Monday...I have had the unit lock up twice during normal usage :(
Arriman is correct...my mistake based on what I had read on the Internet. The phone does work very well on EV-DO however. As for the XV6800, I agree its a great phone but I had a terrible time with the touchscreen brightness in sunlight and trying to dial on its predecessor. I like not having a touchscreen...but thats a huge argument in the PDA world anyway...to stylus or not to stylus :)
ok yea no offense to the reviewer but i'd just like to inform the viewers that this phone DOES NOT have wifi built in. Verizon did not block the phone's wifi capabilities. This phone is in fact just a slightly remodeled version of the HTC Vox, which has wifi, they just removed the wifi module all together.. They ARE NOT blocking it. =]
I tried this phone in the store today and it seems to be a hot phone but like many of Verizons phones they screw them up. We all know that Verizon gives it's customers NOTHING for free, so be prepared to spend out of the ass on your data plans because they wont allow wifi.
I looked at the Q but didn't care for the size and shape. Plus the Q has a "I have a fancy phone and I am in High School" vibe to it...I have never seen any actual adults carry one.
great review man, i just placed an order for that phone today and am expecting it within the next few days. i was a little disappointed as well that they decided to block wifi usage... anyway, thanks again for the review.
