this could be a theme song for all rape victims. if i ever become a sex trafficing victim/sex slave, i will sing this with all the other women/children the way the african american slaves and native americans did, when groups of people are stuck suffering , there is always a chanting or melody they sing in unison to give eachother hope. this can be seen from the black plague, to slavery, to the holocaust, and onward. When i hear this, thats what i think of
In the summer of 1998, I had a girlfriend who went to university in Canada, and, after fucking up a decent gig (I found my boss' weed stash (he was also my uncle)), I went to live with her for two months. She hid me in her dorm for two months, and this song . . . well, I dug it immensely. I think it was because there is no backdrop, just a voice, a woman's voice, telilng a story, a feign, and, again, it was part of Eden. Every man has a song or two from his Eden.
"I know what this means, me and Jesus a few years back, used to hang and he said 'it's your choice babe, just remember, I don't think you'll be back in 3 days time so you choose well.'" She's saying she was thinking of suicide and Jesus tells her that she has control over her life on whether she does it or not but she won't rise from the dead like Jesus did 3 days later so she has to make sure shes not making the wrong choice cause theres no turning back.
Yep i've had goose bumps for about 17 years, it still makes me weepy, thankyou for posting it. The nightmare the narrator (I understand Tori Amos herself was raped at knifepoint), the narrator experiences is pretty much the most red raw brutal thing i've heard in pop music apart from other Tori Amos songs (...boy you better hope I bleed real soon...)
She was raped at knifepoint and shared her experience with the world in song which takes a lot of strength. She wouldn't perform this song live for years because it was hard for her to keep performing. She did something amazing from the situation she speaks of in this song though. She helped found RAINN (Rape & Incest National Network) which helps rape victims of sexual assaults have a place to start opening up. 1.800.656.HOPE 24/7 rape crisis for people who come across this & need help. ~ C52
@RavynSkye1 b3nje989 wasn't trolling. She was raped and hadn't really talked about it. But after watching the attempted rape scene in Thelma and Louise she wrote the song and sang it that night at a show.
That one line, I haven't seen Barbados, speaks so much to me... It's that one thing you hold in front of you when things seem so awful that you can't live through it, when some catastrophe seems like it'll take you down. You can't let it, because you haven't seen everything there is to see yet, been everything you could be. You haven't seen Barbados so you have to keep going.
this is my favorite song. i really needed this. after being raped 2 years ago, im still terrified, & this was just what i needed to listen to, so thank you for posting this <3

@xXxAnonymousOnexXx1 I read in her best of, that she wrote this after watching Thelma and Louise

@b3nje989 Please tell me you're trolling? She was raped, that's why she wrote this. She also founded RAINN - the rape and incest national network.

I love her voice in this song so much. It's so real and beautiful, and she knows exactly where she's coming from and where she's going.
