I bought and returned a nook color today. After fighting with it for 3 hours just to connect to my wifi I gave up. Skip the nook and go with a kindle or sony. I will be going with the kindle myself.
Is it possible to read .pdf files in Nook? Can I for example read a book that I didn´t buy from Nook website? I guess it is also possible to upload a book from a pc also, in nook?
@heartsMuzikhearts don't know exactly.... You can preorder it on amazon website.... Someone told me that shipping started on 27th of august, but i' m not sure about this.
@ImGoingToBeAnMD why, i thought kindle is the best. Nook has too much lags plus the navigational panel is inaccurate, and the screen isn't as clear as the kindle and the sony
I think honestly anyone will be satisfied with whatever they get. I have a kindle and I love it, but I'm sure I would be just as happy with a nook (except I might miss kindles battery life...). At this point they are all similar enough for it not to matter all that much.
YIkes, that nook is lagging ass. I just got one yesterday with the most current firmware and it's speedy. Pages turns are as fast/faster than you could turn a physical book page. I put it through the paces yesterday without issue, runs like a champ!
I just got a nook. I'm happy with my purchase andso far as I know nook is the only eReader that let's you lend eBooks to other people. All they need is a barnes and noble account and you can loan a book to them. :0)
So what do I buy what do I buuuuy?! Someone please tell me arrrrgh (dies in agony) aaand ressurection...it's mainly for pdf e books, I was thinking kindle dx or prs 900???
Кindle DX- has bigger screen, Sony 900 has more features in a smaller package-zoom, handwriting notes. So if size is an issue- get Sony, if you need bigger screen-DX.
Better still- try to find them in the store or friends hands, so you can touch and look and make your decision then. Good Luck.
Hi, this may sound a silly question (probably because it is), but these devices allow you to import pdf's from your computer?
I live in South America, and will be travelling soon to the US. In my case, I am a graduate student, and usually spend about 1-2 hours a day in the subways. I would like very much a device that allowed me to read articles from academic journals that I have in pdf on my PC.
An online store wouldn't be of much help for me, because ... (continue)
.... because it's not available on my country right now. So the speed of downloading books, and the library available aren't important factors for me at all.
Do any (or all) of these devices allow that? If so, which one would you recommend for my case?
(Sorry for the bad english - still learning. And thanks in advance)
All 3 have ability to show you your own pdf files,
Sony has better zoom and annotation feature than others and if being online is not important for you, you can look into Sony Touch Edition, it is cheaper than 900, but has mostly same features, except online capability
for a college student what would you recommend? I've had a few friends tell me look at the sony e reader....but it looks horrible in comparison to the style of the kindle and the nook. I'm inclined to go more to the nook since the memory is expandable and the kindle users have been complaining since they tried to transfer all their purchases from their original kindle and it wont' let them and they have to repurchase everything.
For just reading books- all of them are pretty good. Nook does not have ability to go to the set page though. Kindle 2 can not zoom pdfs, Sony has a bit extra glare on the screen due to the benefit of the touch screen.
As far as having to repurchase their content- all of them allow you to download previously purchased books- and built in memory enough on each of them for hundreds, even thousands of books.
yes, it means if you need to go to page 354 and your nearest chapter break is at 300, and you haven't read to that point yet, you'd need to go to 300 and then press page forward for about 54 times.
Nook- remembers where you've finished reading, but if you need to find your page if you read same book in paper- you'd have to get to your page hard way. Both Kindle and Sony readers do have ability to enter a page number to go to.
I do these reviews so you can have more information to decide which would work better for you.
I suggest going to their respective ebook stores and search for books that you like reading- because no matter how great is the reader- if there is no content - it would not work for you.
Both Nook and Sony support epub format and Adobe digital so you can use the books from their stores on either readers, Kindle does only work with Amazon purchases. Good Luck.
It depends on- which format B&N would provide your book in- meaning that some of them are in their proprietary .pdb format, the .epub books, that they have, you can read on any reader that supports Adbode Digital DRM, providing that you activated both devices using same Adobe Digital account.
It works better other way around, because all Sony books are now in Adobe digital format, and so could be read on Nook.
I am having a hard time choosing. I know I'm getting an E-Reader but can't decide. It's down to the sony daily, the nook, and of coarse, the Kindle 2. I recently visited a Barnes & Noble store and I actually got to play with one. I didn't like the fact that the whole thing was being controlled by that little LCD screen. But, if I have ever seen a device cry out for a touch screen the most. It's the Kindle 2. So, any advice on my decision?
@Bigfatmamalamamoose the best featured overall is as of now KIndle. It is the only one that can browse internet. But it doesnt handle pdfs well. Nook is not there yet, you cant go to the chosen page on Nook, and if screen size is important, you might want to consider Sony Daily- Daily has bigger screen in almost the same sized device that either Kindle, or Nook. Daily is considerably more expensive.
im getting my kindle3 tomorrow !!!!!!! YAAAAAAAYYYYYYY!!!!! :)

Nook feels better in the hand, though it seems heavier and a bit more bulky.

when it gets to my hands, I'd check it out, so far it seems it would be able to do similar things that iPod Touch already does.
It is heavier than most of the eink books and it's battery wont last you for a week- just hours.
