  • It's from Broadcast 594 rec. July 22nd 1930

    Harry Bidgood and his Band

Just compared it with my copy.

  • 1:35 = fap fap fap

  • Actor with Dolores del Rio at 1:05 is Ralph Forbes, not "Forkes".

  • This is Jay Wilbur's band, and the same recording was also issued on british Imperial. This is an edited version of that issue, according to Rust. Vocals are by Les Allen.

  • @Emidicta This record is not the British Imperal version by Wilbur,i have it and it is dynamite!

I think the vocalist hear sounds like Tom Barrett ,prob Jim Kellehers Piccadilly Band

  • @longpast78 Oh, really? Thanks for that info - I was just quoting Rust, so mistakes will happen. Any chance you could post the Imperial version? I'd sure love to hear it!

  • @Emidicta Thats quick, pretty sure of the vocalist ,not the band who are quite good.Can.t imagine how Rust,s make so many big mistakes.I promise to upload this later in the year, when i have moved house,my best records are at the back of the Garage.

  • @Emidicta I think it's Jack Hylton and Sam Browne on vocals

  • @gabbysbuddy Tom Barrett on vocal (he never sang in Jack Hylton's Band)

  • @Emidicta I think it's Jack Hylton and Sam Browne on vocals And Rust wasn't always right!

  • @gabbysbuddy Indeed he wasn't, but Hylton's version is quite different (and on YouTube - make a search!).

  • Surely, you mean, 'The Trail of '98'?

  • 1930s songs, you can actually hear the words they are singing, amazing!!!

  • Great recording of one of my favorite songs. The musical reference to the arrangment used in the Motion Picture "King of Jazz" as opposed to the Columbia Gramophone Record is very evident w/ modulation sections etc.. The tap dance reference and the TB solo at about 2:35 is great!!

  • that's not a tap dance...that's either someone making batter mix in time to the music or Ambrose pulling one off.

  • I was just searching for this recording, and when I browsed thtough the search results, I wasn't surprised to find i on your channel. :)

  • What a great record. This arrangement they a playing is a 1930 stock arrangement. My orchestra plays the exact same chart.

    Simply great - Thanks

  • This sounds so much like Harry Bidgood's studio band. Maybe it's a similar group of studio regulars...

  • Makes me want to take tap Danceing Lessionsat 63 yr. of age :D

  • only 63!!!!

    I am 73 (Saturday March 30, 1935 -Lima-Peru)

My dad had a victrola and I would listen this by Paul Whiteman's 78 rpm in the WW2 days!!

  • Lovely version.I find they are very good dance bands on this label, but that the quality is often poor.Maybe im just unlucky with the ones i have!Al Bowlly recorded a few for this label,as vocalist with a band, very rare.

  • Stunning!

  • I'll be there in two weeks and my happy feet will do a lot of walking but no dancing or tapping. Great tune and pics.

  • Cool!

  • Great alternate version!
