How do you get so little noise with the sony HVR_HD1000u in low light conditions ??

1/60 shutter, open exposure all the way and pray for the best. People underestimate this camera and what it can do for a camera in its price range.

Very true. I've had mine for over a year and there's just not too much you cannot do with this camera if you know what you are doing. I've heard lots of people complain about this camera not being well suited for low light -- everything I do is mostly low light and I've never had any problems -- least not according to my eyes.
