That's quite a story. He is very lucky he was able to escape without getting killed, or even worse sent back to prison for life. I love watching locked up abroad. An awesome program and a valuable lesson to be learned. Never try to smuggle drugs, it just isn't worth it.
What a great upload, thanx!! In 1978 when Midnight Express the movie came out, I was in 11th grade and also a projectionist at a drive in. I ran that movie, that means I basically couldn't take my eyes off the screen for 7 straight nights, so I knew it well. I knew it was based on a true story, but this is the first I've ever seen of "William Hayes" in real life. I'd assumed as he escaped a Turkish prison he would stay in hiding forever to avoid extradition.
It's not about the prison sentence, you insensitive prick. he was being tortured physically and emotionally like he was a murderer or child molester. That's not what prisons are for.
What is interesting about this video is at the end he shows great remorse about the pain he put his family through; however, he didn't mentioned again the friend who gave his life for him.
let that be a lesson, women of european descent. If they are darker than you, and have spanish names. They hate you. They will abuse, use, and hurt you. If you dont listen to what im telling you, then you deserve the shitty life they will bring you because that is all they know. They will all be nice to you at first, but then... Show some loyalty to hundreds of years of your bloodline. All of this politically correct brainwashing is nothing new.
@eysofastrnjr Yea lets just make a racist comment like that and generalize all Turks because of what this man had to go through...Let's look at the laws here in the US for trying to smuggle 2 kilos of marijuana...I believe that is a felony and no other country has psychologically crazed prison systems like the US. In the end he broke the law many times, got caught in this 5th go around showing absolutely no respect for the Turkish laws or authority...deserved everything he went through.
I really like the story but I didn't get the last part, why the greeks would deport him to us? how would they know that he,s american? did he had his passport? if he did then how come he had a passport in jail and going through the water and swimming wouldn't it get wet ? can someone explain plz?
@rajperkillz you can wrap your damn passport and papers in plastic idiot! and this was in 1970's these third world countries are not as locked down as american prisons are now even...you must be a dumb kid.......
@rajperkillz the greeks and the turks have been enemies for a very long time so they wouldn't have sent him back to turkey most likely they contacted the american embassy in greece to confirm his identity
