This was at a time when a nearby new Casino was being built and was offering local residents money for decent palm trees for planting around the swimming pools. The joke is the bakkie (van/car/pickup) cost a load more and this one is "In sy Moer!" Rustenburg, South Africa.

I just had a thought. Maybe he pulled the tree down and committed insurance fraud saying it was an accident in order to get a new truck. Still stupid, considering they are filming the crime, but maybe the truck driver didn't know there was a camera. Maybe? Im probably just looking for a somewhat logical reason where there is none.
