  • WAIT!!! WASN"T IT A CAT AND MOUSE!?!?!?! :O

  • COULD YOU please tell me the name of the song at 5:25??????????

    PLEASE!!

  • Margie is written by the king of scatting, cab calloway. He also did songs for betty boop cartoons.

  • @laughland Oh bonnie poe was betty boop and mae questel was the main voice. So bonnie poe was the singing voice for betty boop or was it mae questel? And how does margie the song goes, the lyrics

  • 1:50 Woah... I didn't knew this song was so old. The Sidewalks of New York. This is what the guy is playing on piano. Great song.

  • tom and jerry? does this have anything to do with the cat and mouse?

  • I actually have this DVD, plus a ton other cartoons from the same time decade. Best $10 I spent by far

  • HOLD ON! The girl jerry danced with and started to sing is Mae Questel. Betty Boop.

  • @Pikminlinkfan23 Actually the voice in this film is by Bonnie Poe. Now to confuse matters further, Bonnie did do the voice of Betty in a handfull of Betty Boop cartoons but Mae Questel was the main voice artists for her over the years.

  • @laughland Oh bonnie poe was betty boop and mae questel was the main voice. So bonnie poe was the singing voice for betty boop or was it mae questel?

  • OLD CARTOONS ARE AWESOME! THEY PWN THE NEW ONES! THE ONLY GOOD SHOWS WE HAVE NOW ARE THE ONES WITH FAKE CHARACTERS LIKE FISH HOOKS! THE SHOWS WITH REAL PEOPLE LIKE ICARLY ARE TOTALLY BAD! GO OLD CARTOONS!

  • This is awesome!

  • Comment Pending Approval!

  • These old fashioned cartoons are better than the new cartoons. Although this video has no color it isn't so bad at all!

  • Songs in this short:

    1. "Margie" ("...I have bought a home and ring, and everything, for Margie...")

    2. "Daisy Bell" (A Bicycle Built for Two).

    3. "Doin' the New Low Down" ("...Hi-ho, I'm doin' the new low down!...")

  • i love cartoons. from ones like this to ones like family guy to ones in pixar

  • 2:216-2:28...talk about ani------music note abuse lmao shit jerry sure had balls slamming the music note's head on the wall lmao "FATALITY"

  • But tom and jerry are cat and mouse and then they was little boys??????!!!!!!!!!

I like more the new series.....

  • @magnaurko

This has no relation to the Hanna-Barbera series called 'Tom and Gerry'

It was an older cartoon, made by a different studio

  • OMG WTF @ 2:20

  • ¡Muy bueno todo! ¡Y ese RAG tocado por los ratones y más tarde por el muñeco !

  • that is one fat lady

  • By the way, what is the name of the song at the intro?

  • @KosaiAvonej The song during the opening credits is called "Margie".

  • @laughland

    Thanks.

  • @laughland And i know who wrote it: Cab calloway, the man of the orchestra and the conk hairdue creator. He did some songs on betty boop: The old man of the mountain, minnie the moocher, and st infirmary blues.

  • Is it just me or at 1:15 is this a cameo of Mickey Mouse? Or was that just a common way of drawing mice in the 1930's cartoons?

  • you know your cartoon man! haha

  • What a real cartoon should be! Not scary! This is "no-rules" pre-censored cartoons shown only in theaters before the feature. Awesome!

  • did anyone besides me find this scary?

  • 6:01

    OH NO!

  • those were the days before extrusion, joint placement, IK spine handle, UV texture editor, lighting and mental ray.

  • This is old as hell,

Do you have the very first "Scooby Doo"

I mean the very, very first one.

    ~DJ GIMS~

  • No I don't - sorry!

  • @DJGIMS3000 my grandfather was 4 yeas old when this was made 0_0 ( thumbs up!!!)

  • *shakes head* they could have been a bit more original- instead of playing off of Disney's success with dancing mice and obvious character approximation

  • very old

  • This is fantastic, and what a find! Thank you!

  • poor mickey mouse he got killled there

  • How wonderful! Love it; thank you!

  • How wonderful! Love it; thank you!

  • wow this is a rare cartoon where did u get it?, btw nice cartoon so many gags

  • sssssuuuuupppppeeeeerrrrr

  • hella cool. i like.

  • they hould pu this back on the air

  • Found the sheet-music to the opening song ("Margie") - Surprisingly easy to play!! And so sweet!

  • It was one of the first songs Rodemich recorded for Brunswick in Oct. 1919. He died Feb. 27, 1934.

  • this looks very much like something max Fleischer would have done..

    I love these old cartoons..

so much better than say happy tree friends or some other garbage crap like that of that nature..

  • lol great they transformed from a kids to animals!! :))

  • Tom and Jerry are people! WTF!

  • So "Tom and Jerry" were just people not cat-&-mouse? Weird!

  • aww</3 poor music note

  • 1:50, song is "Daisy Bell" (A Bicycle Built for Two).

  • Just Great!

  • the original tom and jerry

  • is dis tom and jerry???

  • jajjajajajajjajajajaja great cartoon

  • I found a ton of the Van Beuren studio stuff at the .99c store. I couldn't believe that it took so long for me to discover them, when I have been digging for animation since the dawn of VHS. I ended up getting about 60 of the obscure TV, cartoons, animation festival, and oddball movies there. Is that where you found this?

  • I bought a ton of DVDs of these and other Van Beuren cartoons at the .99c store. I couldn't believe that I was ignorant of so much when I had tried so hard to find old animation since the dawn of VHS. There was also a treasure trove of everything from Animation Festival, to Oddball Movie titles, to obscure television. I slowed down at about 60 of them. They seem to be petering out, so get em while they're hot!

  • I can't see Tom and I can't see that little bastard Jerry.

  • 1:30-1:36 What is the song ? Its very funny!!!

  • lol i love the little mouse ambulance! xD

  • Fats Domino covered this song Margie

  • Fats Domino covered this song

  • good

  • porike

  • funny

  • esto tiene mas animacion que saint sieya !!! ... muy bueno ..

  • Man when he pulled that piano key out and it got all bundle up and then he put back, that unravelling animation looked really hard. They did good here.

  • I can't imagine how hard that was to draw. When this was made, EVERYTHING was drawn BY HAND. Every single detail, every single FRAME. It must've taken ages to do just those few seconds with the piano key. You really gotta hand it to these guys. They had SKILL.

  • Some people today do that too. Some people choose to draw it by hand.

  • fortunately

  • thats mostly cos they had no alternative, these days they do it much more smoothly but still, old caroons have much better imagination!

  • I agree

  • I believe that they are much more talented than today's artists! You do have a point, this was ALL drawn by hand!

  • @Shangas true true, but hey their hard work pays off at the end, cartoons were badass back then, better then the crap we have as "cartoons" these days

  • @Shangas they had took 2 years i think

  • "It aint over till the fat llady sings"

  • 6.15-the lady sounds like betty boop(mae quest)maybe she was voiced by her?

  • it is Bonnie Poe not mae Questel

they both sound simuler but mae does High pitch

  • Man, that was funny as hell.

  • That soprano looked like an ogre

  • i bet the cat and mouse were namesakes, huh?

  • This is the best of the Van Beuren series. Gene Rodemich is brilliant as always. It's great when they finally cut loose: Hot Hot Hot!!! The part where the notehead gets blugeoned and disposed of is just the funniest thing I've ever seen. A curious Helen Kane/Mae Questal (Betty Boop) clone. I wonder who she is? Thanx for posting it!

  • My absolute favorite of the Van Beuren. When the Gene Rodemich Orchestra cuts loose they are Hot As Hell!!! Thanx!!!

  • lol XD mouse ambulance

  • what a trip.

    that's weird.

  • XD the 1930's are crazy

  • And the 1920's too XDXDXD

  • this is sooooooooo cute!! i thought it was an older version of tom and jerry, but it's different. well, i like it anyway wiiiiiii sooooooooo cute hehe

  • I did'nt know there was a version of tom and jerry were they were not cat or mouse.

  • this is tom and jeryy ??????????????

  • There have been two different cartoon series with characters named Tom and Jerry. This human duo came first and was created by the Van Beuren studio in the early 1930s. The cat and mouse version were made at MGM beginning in 1940.

  • OMG! Hundreds of Mickey Mouses have invaded a Tom and Jerry Cartoon! LOL Thanks for uploading this :D

  • These are the classics, I like seeing stuff like this. thanks for posting! =D

  • Yea... dude i play the broom pretty good

  • Oooh, it's so old! =] I love it. xD

  • PLEASE PLEASE PLEASE may I have the original file of this? Thanks in advance...

  • You can download this film from the internet archive. Just search for "piano tooners".

  • thank you :P i feel sooo lazy today but i will.

  • @laughland What internet archive???

  • @Lunarmoonbase2 It is at archive org . If you google the two words "internet archive" it should be the first item listed. The archive is a repository of lots of donated digital materials.

  • I like the beggining

  • I love the begining song

  • great stufff

  • were was tom and jerry

    -Rachel-

  • sucks

  • nice too see this again! imagine! this is real art

  • esta es otra caricatura no esta creado por willian hanna y joseph barbera y la musica no es de scott bradley ademas esta en technicolor por MGM

  • You are correct. This is a different Tom and Jerry and was created several years before MGM had a cartoon studio.

  • Do you know the name of this song chum?? and where i can get it? i think it is really good plus my brothers name is marty so i would too learn it for him lol

  • I'm guessing you mean the opening song - it is called "Margie". If you go to the Indiana University Sheet Music Collection (just google it) and do a simple search for Margie, you'll find copies of the sheet music.

  • thank you

  • wtf was that lol

  • Man that chick had some nice knockers

  • this poor colored cartoon show are to very poor conditioned

  • when tom and jerry weren't even cat and mice yett...

  • gorgeous

  • Why the heck did the woman faint!!!?

  • @stjasi71 Because she's fat.

  • WHERE DID YOU GET THIS THING?!

  • it's really a shame when a great cartoon like this suffers from things being cut off at the top of the screen...old popeyes do that too...

  • that old tom and jerry is died at 1940.. then new cartoon tom and jerry of the cat and mouse ^^

  • wow !!!!! good

  • It was thought that Psycho was the first time you ever had a working toilet shown in film, You can see that's really not the case with this short at 02:34, Even though you don't see the whole toilet only part of it.

  • this is older than my grandma!!

  • HAhahhhHAHAH! ! Cool ! !!

  • Lol! A cartoon as old as this one has scenes of upskirts and semi-nudity. Interesting. XD
