@scdevon I agree with your first sentence and can't helping LOL'ing at the second one, considering Johnny came out in 1982. Or did you just mean boring, lame, etc.?
Beautiful. As a late-user/finder of this type of listening i now find hours passing by with me being angry that i can't remember all the great singers heard in my house when i was a kid. Johnny is totally unique,a great singer who resonates real feeling and this vid shows he was a natural from a young age. The man was born to sing!
He came to my town ( Bakersfield Ca) this past week , my wife got tickes for the concert for her and my mother, mom's was in heaven after the concert . Im glad we gave this to her because she's has always been a big fan.
Just last evening listening to his Nashville cd I thought of this song. It was the first one I played when i purchased my first vinyl at age 12 in 1961. Johnny grew up in front of the world and how we embraced him. I agree with the note regarding his still "sweet innocence" much like the shy young boy we see here. I have only had a computer since 2009 so a lot of these priceless features I had never seen. When he interviews today that sweet young man is still there, precious memories....
I remember this like he appeared yesterday; so shy and wonderful, me so young and I wanted to take his shyness away but that wouldn't have been OK to have removed what we know NOW as still the shy, the awesome legendary Johnny Mathis!
Wow! He looks like he's in high school! (1957. That would make him 21 or 22) This is two years before I was born. I feel in love with Johnny Mathis voice in the 70's as a teenager during his "come back" I love watching these old clips. Makes me wish I was a teenager in the 50's instead! THANK YOU!
(1 of 2)This song "It's Not For Me To Say" was inducted into the Grammy Hall Of Fame in 2008, his recording of "Misty" was inducted in 2002 and his recording of "Chances Are" was inducted in 1998. There was a special Grammy award that was created in 1973 to honor recordings that are at least twenty-five years old, and that have "qualitative or historical significance."
(2 of 2)I've heard Johnny refer to these 3 songs in interviews as "The Trilogy." He has said he must sing these 3 songs at his live concerts then he can sing anything he wants to sing.
Thank you for commenting, Cybernautev. I don't know where you and 19rebel57 get such great videos. I love to watch him sing. I never saw him in person, so this is the next best thing to just listening to his beautiful, fantastic, unmatched voice. I sure hope these are available as long as I live. You do so much for all his faithful fans; I wonder if he sees any of this? I never get enough of him...and he is sooo cute...I'm 71 now, lol. Thank you for your dedication. God bless.
This has got to be the most endearing video of Johnny Mathis. He was so young, Oh-oh, I'm repeating what you said, cybernautev, you did it so beautifully, I totally agree with you. I will treasure this. He still has so many of these special qualities as can be seen in later videos. He is something else. GOD gifted us to be in the same lifetime as Johnny to enjoy his exceptional talents.
Romantic candlelit dinner across from my everything ..... Lets just say Mr. Mathis set the tone for one of the most special and memorable evenings we've shared together.
Oh my...his vocals are without equal in this performance. Even Father Time is enjoying the Mathis locomotive because that voice can still bring it at 74!
I've had the Greatest Hits album for many years. I remember his music filling our house back in the 60s. THIS is my favorite JM tune/croon......Midway thru watching this.....it suddenly struck me, he looks like that dude from American Idol....Sanjaya?
I was just reading about Madonna not wanting to sing some of her greatest hits songs of the past. You know she's right, many artist sing songs that do become dated and they sound foolish today. And then there's Johnny Mathis' greatest hits, each and everyone is considered timeless, the lyrics are words a lover wanted to hear back in 1958 thru today. Which is a big part of why Johnny Mathis is still considered at the top of his game. His songs and his voice are Wonderful, wonderful.
Nothing can ever take the place of the way we were when we/he was so young, so shy and so perfectly out of this world. We teens went wild when we saw him sing this on TV. and after all these years nothing has changed when he sings.
When George Avakian sent that telegram that said, "Found phenomenal 19 year old who can go all the way", he knew what he was talking about. 53 years as a recording artist, close to, if not, 100+ original albums/CDs, and still going strong. Good going Mr. Avakian, you found a keeper.
Yes, this is an endearing shot of Johnny. What a rare treat to see him back when he had no idea how big he would become in the entertainment world. He's a handsome young man here and to me he is still a handsome older man. I have tickets to see this lovely man in concert December 10, in Santa Rosa, CA I hope he will do meet and greets that evening after the concert. I've seen him in concert twice but never had the pleasure of meeting him in person. Thanks for this upload.

No wonder his parents were proud of this wonderful boy. So shy, not knowing where to put his arms nor his legs. And not knowing what waited him ahead,
how the whole world embrace him. I know that I did, and still do. I adored him then, and I adore him now. Thank you for sharing. From Norway: Berit.
