@Rattshewantsmoney As many times as I've seen KISS I've never seen Gene even do a "real" bass solo! LOL Just the weird noises he makes before he spits blood and breaks into God Of Thunder. Any true KISS fan who has any understanding of the word musician has to admit they were pretty average, at the most, musicians. They got better when they started to change lineups, Eric Carr was pretty good, when they brought in the "ringers" like Bruce Kulick and Eric Singer.

@ZiddersRooFurry It is a part of human nature... yes there are subjective elements and for the most part, many of these players and close friends and feed off of each other... still, you can't deny there's a different level of play and that's true in anything sports, music etc. In music, there is a competitive sense because 'art' is subjective but we can draw some lines as long as there is no considerable distance of skill, which is not the case here. Satch v Vai? that's more a problem.

U know why we rarely see bass like this anymore? Because hardly anyone takes time to study their craft. Bass is one of the hardest instruments to master. I respect Billy because of his knowledge of the bass and his respect that he is originally there to serve the song and provide rythm, and then he knows when its time to rip a solo. He understands the science and that is why his solos are so listenable. I saw Good Charlloette's bass player try to rip a solo...my GOD!

People will always say slash plays with more feeling and soul but truth be told gilberts solos are phrased perfectly for the context in which they are being used.

And if you were a real musician you would know that it actually takes more thought to make a song with less notes and complexity. All he's got is good songwriters skill and insane solo skill.
