@hqthang87 "lasso" just refers to the way the racket loops around above their head on the follow-through; like the way a cowboy swings a lasso of rope around.

lasso winner = reverse forehand? c'mon dude, stick to the regular names. The footage is great, it doesnt make your video any fancier using such words.
just for me to remember which one it was - since I have a whole bunch of other videos of Federer hitting winners with running forehands...wasn't trying to be fancy.
A reverse forehand is named so because the movement above his head is the mirror of what happened bellow. If you really want to know, the reverse finish comes from a more vertical swing path rather than linear like a classical forehand or a mix of both with the windshield wiper forehand; it's the response to the vertical action combined with an impossibility to rotate fully the upper body.
Here, Roger is hitting with a closed stance as he runs... he must hit a reverse forehand.
But, since you are an expert, you surely know that there is an alternative to this footwork. You end-up on your racket leg, hit an open stance forehand, make a little hop, complete your rotation in the air and land on the same leg.
This way, you can hit through the ball, but the issue is that it requires more time which you do not always have. Use the reverse forehand when you are caught or need time, but make sure to do it correctly and with a full motion.
@Henrii01 can't agree with you more. These days, tennis watchers get too jargony when they talk about tennis, especially TV commentators and Youtubers.
@cys12141 When you finish with the racquet over your hitting shoulder that's a reverse follow-through. It's a different shot and not just a matter of preference or style.
Never heard it before either. They're probably just trying to start a naming trend referencing the above the head follow through on this type of forehand shot.
Yes. It's not a shot really. It was a topspin forehand...which happened to be a winner...and also he finished with the lasso whip (around the head) technique rather than the more traditional "over the shoulder" finish...I'm not trying to make up new terms or anything...
@txchou yeah ur right and also its not nadals shot. everyone does it when they dont have enough time to follow through all the way so they reverse the swing. "lasso whip" indorder to still get spin and power
@txchou agreed. he used the lasso whip because it was the most natural way to finish while being in that position in my opinion. had he finished across his shoulder i dont think it wouldve been as cleanly struck as with the lasso type finish.
@Ethanovic its nothing liek nadals, it may look similar, but fed and nadal have way different contact points note* ( most running forehand look alike at pro lvl)
god my calf muscles are big but federer's are HUGE!!
