Envoro-Alarmist. Fuck off. Stop telling us how to live.
Sea levels rising? No, falling. Globe warming? No, cooling. Are any IPCC models/projections correct? No. Reduction of rain forests due to AGW? No. Polar bears disappearing? No, Populations are increasing rapidly. Greenland and Antarctica ice is melting? Nope, net ice mass is increasing; so are ice flows. Hurricanes increasing? No, they are at an all-time low. And so on it goes.
What he does not tell you is....we'd need to find ecosystems on some other planet to multiply from.or a bacteria would have to use humans as the food supply...humans as the food supply for a new species.there our (?) problems of limited ecosystems over.
OVERPOPULATION DOES NOT EXIST. WHAT EXIST IS THE RESOURCES OF THE WORLD IN THE HANDS OF A FEW.
WITH MODERN DAY TECHNOLOGY SUCH AS SKYSCRAPERS, VERTICAL FARMS, 3D PRINTING, THORIUM REACTORS, AUTOMATION AKA (TECHNOLOGICAL UNEMPLOYMENT) THERE IS NO REASON WHY THE PLANET EARTH COULD NOT SUSTAIN OUR CURRENT POPULATION (7 BILLION) OR MORE.
THE MASSES ARE UNEDUCATED. IT IS A FACT THAT MORE EDUCATED COUPLES HAVE LESS CHILDREN (2.1 OR AROUND 2 CHILDREN) IN THERE LIFETIMES.
For anyone who challenges human population growth rates, I urge you to graph world population beginning at even 1 A.D. forward. You will prove yourself incorrect. The self importance adopted by the majority of humanity doesn't allow them to acknowledge the importance of death in a scenario of sustainability, which is what is causing this imbalance. If you only devote your attention to one half of a cycle, that behavior creates an imbalance that is undeniable.
I have so many teachers at WWU refute this on the "the Malthusian blah blah has never panned out" and up until minute 59 it wont, how hard is it to understand?
This is not science. If prosperity of the population grows, if population grows, if population is stable but wealth grows it doesn't disprove the theory since the proponents of this argument could say disaster will come soon, even it never comes. The idea that humans grow faster than available resources is not proven by data. Economics is a science, data can show if a theory such as the theory of comparative advantage is true or false.
The scenario is not what the earth is. Yes resources are finte, there is only so much earth, there is only so much sun, in 8 billion years the sun will die out, but that doesn't mean exploitable resources are fixed. As new technology is developed new resources are created, ie. shale gas, while new technologies allow resources to be better managed. Modern fertilizers and innoculants allow industrialized countries to grow more food on half the land.
@Knowthypsych overpopulation is improbable? how so? its MATH, of course at a certain point we will stop growing but it will be because the number of people dying will be higher or equal than the number of births ... nice solution eh?... oh yeah, and of course suzuki is paid by the elite so was isaac asimov, so is marvin minsky, so is Albert Bartlett and of course so is stephen hawking who said that we NEED to search other hospitable planets, damn this elite, buying the most intelligent people...
@LinkKaiba Are you an idiot? Do you really think the population in this world is going to grow exponentially? In science there's a thing called CONTROLLED SUBSTANCE. If the world was a test tube aka PERFECT WORLD where no bacteria dies due to random occurrences and somehow we only produce one food only for the rest of our lives, that my friend is a LIE. This world is not perfect, yet our food production has been doubled even tripled with the current technology. KNOWLEDGE is POWER. Know the facts
@snooppeterd well its not that I think the population is going to grow exponentially ... IT IS GROWING EXPONENTIALLY, and it has been for a long time (lately around 1.2% per year).... food production has doubled or tripled?, i dont know what you are comparing that to, but the fact is that more than 2 billion people live with less than $2 a day and food prices are rising (because demand is higher than supply) ... I guess it is you who needs to know the facts, 1.2% per year is EXPONENTIAL GROWTH
@Knowthypsych David Suzuki is a brilliant scientist* paid by the CBC* to inform people about the corrupt and self-destructive nature of their own way of life. Overpopulation is inevitable*.
erase 3rd world poverty and poor people would stop having so many kids.. the population only boomed after globalization, especially urban population.. many people in agricultural lands lost their living after the flood of foreign products saturated their markets (NAFTA and "free trade") most urban poor in 3rd world countries come from the provinces and were former farmers, farm workers, or worked in the agriculture industry.. watch life and debt documentary
@lovellespice prior to globalization, there were no ghettos, favellas, or squatter areas.. no you might say correlation does not equal causation, but look at the roots of booming urban population -- displacement thru economic downturns all caused by globalization
we have to limit growth in population and consuming of resources. Ppl cannot have wishful thinking of future planets we can inhabit. That is like saying "I aware of my exceeding spending habits, but hey, In the near future I should win the lottery."
@kingdavidb well the thing is there's only so much material available on a single planet. more people and things=less material. ever hear of the great dustbowl? thats gonna be the whole planet if things continue.
@tehmulletman Yes & No, Innovation creates abundance whereas schools teach people that everything is scarce... It is but because of innovation there is really unlimited resources (in some ways)
@kingdavidb not true...if we use for a simple example some iron ore to make plates we cannot use the iron again it is lost. we can recycle it but we do not get 100% of the material back so eventually we are left with nothing.
were not so ultimate, were not bacteria, check out western society and if the number realy increases. japan in front is actuely decreasing. all the sientist agree and they are all just fear mongering and than the ratling about finite planet, when? i believe george carlin was right when he said the planet is doing fine, the people...
if we live with nature nothing will be more finite than we already are and ultimate... ultimate this sun will die, use it while it's there
@TheRedemptionSongs the point is, if we stay on a single planet we will surely go extinct. we give money to economists and other worthless projects while we should be putting the money to more important projects. thats all he's trying to explain if we want to get off this rock and spread we're not going to be able to by economy.....its going to be the scientists who are going to lead the way. but they are being ignored or hidden from public view. i just think its BS where this planet is heading.
@tehmulletman we are here for a long time, if there is a reason for extinction it's not where we are, it's how we treat it. this planet is not heading bs, it's right in the middle of it. pollution all over and if you get to why we work like slave to get 90% waste and 10% to stay alive. what you eat travels more than you do, what you use is made in china. it's cheaper in currency, but much more expensive in reality.
@TheRedemptionSongs we havnt been here for a long time, if you think that your kidding yourself we have done more damage to ourselves in less time than any species on earth. we need to start over, and try again. its as simple as that.
@TheRedemptionSongs thousands of years is nothing but a blink of the earths eyes, this world's been around for billions of years(millions?) either way we need to do something now and not pass it down to the next generations when we can start now. treating the earth better will not cut the pollution we have already created, its too late for that. we need to get out and start progressing again. if we cant get to new planets we're doomed anyway in the long run. we have nothing to lose in trying...
@tehmulletman so how old are you? do something like get to other planets because in your opinion this one is wasted... this consumerism realy gets to the brain of people. theres a lot to lose in trying, all these explorations to find unsuitable rock. maybe some day something suitable will be found, till that day we have to just live here like weve been living here for thousands of years.
@TheRedemptionSongs I'm only 21 years old. this one is not wasted...yet. but if we don't start trying we probably wont get another chance. there's nothing to lose in trying except money, worthless money. if we don't try how can we possibly know if something suitable will be found? there's no way to see other planets from here. we see shadows of planets, that's all and unless we get out there and look we'll never know. and if we live as we are living now, we wont last another thousand years.
@tehmulletman if we live as we are living now, we won't last another thousand years. that's where i agree. i don't agree to your possible solution. even if we find another planet what will take lots of time, lots of energy and all the labour money represents, then what? we still have to learn how to live... not even going on a train of thought on how do we get there together. i have some suggestions for you to take a look at because what is lacking is understanding nature were part of...

@TheRedemptionSongs thats all very true, and i cant help but agree. but i still think while we work towards getting to another planet, we can do as you say and learn from our mistakes. personally the labor will be good for our current shattered economy, the energy will be nothing compared with what we have possible to gain. and time well we have to start somewhere before its too late. we just need to do SOMETHING...anything is better than just sitting here waiting for the end...
@tehmulletman some considerations. what we have possibly to gain nobody knows. theres something out there, but it's not like the lottery. possibly simular, might be not. might be better, might be worse. this planet is a jewel for as far as i know and we should take responceability for where we are. this is always the case, take responceability for where you are, not for where you want to be. that's chasing a dream and likely not doing anything at all.
@TheRedemptionSongs true enough but i still think we have got to start looking before its too late to do so. im not saying lets all abandon the earth, im saying lets start actually exploring space. if we dont look we'll never know. its worth spending time and resources for something important like this. im all for cleaning up the planet but there will be plenty of people and resources to do both so why not? clean the planet while searching the stars! we have 4 billion+ people, why not?
@tehmulletman because the budget for space exploring is not your pocket money. it could also feed the world. because if everybody takes responceability for where they are theres no need to leave this rock. it's not like your adding anything new to this chat nor to anything else, space exploration is happening for decades. so take responceability and become an astronaut, take a job at nasa, something else than taking daydreams to serious.
even though this sounds very bad, i feel that he hasn't considered our waste as a replenishing factor in the soil. im not sure if bacteria produce any waste products or if it affects their food in any amount but ours does. it brings most of the nutrients we've eaten and returns it to the earth. with death even more so. so if we ever run out of land that can support growth, people will die. then we will get the nutrients back into the soil and it will start the cycle all over again.
@tehmulletman but even so there will be utter devastation, and life as we know it will be long gone. our generation may not see it, nor the next or the next after that, hell it might still be 1,000 years before we see it happen. even if it isn't true why not be better safe than sorry? for if there is a chance, no matter how small at-least its better to have tried not having to, than not try and have to, but be too late.
